Stonehenge: Or does left mean the left side of the board, then 5 is the correct answer :)

Chessgames Bookie: <Stonehenge: Biel Rd 6: Bacrot vs Alekseev: Pieces Left / I counted 18 pieces, not 5-8.> Our mistake; we just redid the payments.

Note that two players had tickets for this wager on "17-20 pieces" and they discarded them. (One was for 10 chessbucks, the other for 20 chessbucks.) We made these two tickets reappear in their accounts. We checked the logfiles and we believe that everybody's account should be correct now.

Sorry about the confusion.

Annie K.: And yet again... :s What the heck were you betting on, Mal, Alekseev?!?! LOL. Good work, in any case! :)
Jul-29-08  malthrope: <Annie K.: And yet again... :s What the heck were you betting on, Mal, Alekseev?!?! LOL. Good work, in any case! :)>

Well, in the previous round at Biel I took a small risk as I was on <pins & needles> in Round #6 to see if Onischuk could hold against Dominguez... It must have been a very tiring Chess game (6½ hours - 91 moves), as I had <W-B-D> in my 'Pick 3' bet.

GM Onischuk played perfectly right up to the moment he got the bright idea of 88. Rd7?? (he had 8 minutes left on his clock with a draw by the 50-move rule on his 104th move). He had to keep his Rook on the c-file to avoid 88... Kc2! Got to give a lot of credit to GM Dominguez, as he also played it the best possible way making use of all every chance he had! A beautiful example of how to win this type of ending (K + R vs K + R + N).

Well, I'd be lying through my teeth if I told you that by <not> betting on GM Akekseev was how I did it... Of course it was him! 'Good Luck' betting everyone! :^) All the Best, - Mal

PS: Should be an exciting finish at Biel... As, Yogi once said, <"It ain't over till it's over!"> ;)

Jul-29-08  crawfb5: I missed a big payoff in the pick 3 yesterday when Carlsen lost for the first time in...

I missed another big pick 3 payoff when Onischuk couldn't collect his "bye" today... :-)

If it wasn't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all. I guess I'm a cellar-dweller for good reason... :-)

<crawfb5> - it took me many <ChessBookie> betting seasons to get the hang it! :) Then I slowly began to understand how to manipulate the c-bucks and take full advantage of the odds as presented and bet upon. Trust me - <You> will too! :^) All the Best, - Mal

PS: Luved the story in your bio (Number #4) about Karpov! :))

Thanks. I'm almost back to even after being almost completely busted. Even so, I doubt I'll ever be a risk for you guys up at the top, but I'm ok with that.

<PS: Luved the story in your bio (Number #4) about Karpov! :))>

Everybody loves that one. I actually forgot to put it in at first!

Well the beauty is there is always room for improvement and 3 chances to get into the <ChessBookie> Winter Leg Championship with the benefit of having $10,000 c-bucks to play with! ;)

Here you can always relocate the placement if you wish too... :) However, to be honest with you - I think it's <perfect> right where it is. Always save your best for last! :^) Regards, - Mal

Annie K.: Meh... well, "only" 400 or so down today. :s Losing Biel Winner/Perfecta bets (I'm sure you can guess which) :p offset somewhat by 5/6 correct Sochi bets. Darn cat.18 tourneys anyway. ;p
Jul-31-08  malthrope: <technical draw: OK I have a new name for the leader: Malicious Mal...You are sure taking a big lead, how about a loan? [...]>

Hehehe... :) Well the <Loanshark> once told me if I ever passed out 'c-bucks' that he would personally pass out his heavy weight <brass knuckles> to the boys! ~lol~ Besides, I'm sure everyone will be happy to know that I will lose a small amount today... :(

I mean who knew the winner at the Biel Chess Festival wasn't going to be a combination of <Carlsen + Alekseev (or) Bacrot (or) Dominguez>? Can't' win them all! Finally the new draw King - GM Alexander Onischuk - takes the cake! :) Other than that life is just peachy (sometimes). All the Best to You <TD>. :^) Your pal, -Mal

PS: <TD: The loan shark doesn't even want me near his office!> - Don't worry he'll soften up in a few days... I still have my <influence> ! ;)

I know <Annie>... Good betting at Sochi! ;) I took it easy the first day while everyone was getting their feet wet... Seems I had some <loose cash> lying around, so I bet on the eventual winners there! :)

Me too. Just some longshots though. :)

Oh, I had a "most draws" bet on Onischuk (and nobody else). That was expected here. ;) But that win won't amount to much, after the pool gets divided among him and Carlsen. :|

Jul-31-08  artyom2008: i have 0 chessbucks and i have to repay the loanshark and i have about 4 bets or something can you please help me also i have to pay him 86 chessbucks
Jul-31-08  artyom2008: help

Jul-31-08  malthrope: <technical draw: <arty> Just go to his office with that lion and he'll give you anything you want!>

<TD> speaks the truth <artyom2008> :) Just bring your tabby to the Loanshark's office and borrow some more 'c-bucks' from him (when he's in a good mood he'll give it to you). That will keep <YOU> going! :^)

Jul-31-08  malthrope: <artyom2008>

PS: If you ever need any more help you can count on <TD> and <malthrope>. We can both get you 'in and out' doors faster than Kasparov use to win his beautiful Chess games! ;) Best Wishes, - Mal

Annie K.: <acirce> Bragging time is whenever one has something to brag about. ;)

Nice list there!

Aug-01-08  crawfb5: I lost 7 of 8 bets on Sochi today. So close to perfection...missed it by <that> much... :-)
Aug-01-08  malthrope: <crawfb5: I lost 7 of 8 bets on Sochi today. So close to perfection...missed it by <that> much... :-)>

Oh my! :( Well, this might help a little bit - I only placed only 4 'player vs player' bets and lost 3 of them! ~lol~ Aronian was the only winner (against Navara), but Radja (against Jako), Gris (against Al-Modiahki) and Svidler (against Cheparinov) - 3 perfect goose eggs! ~lol~ My side bet in the 'Pick 3" with <W-W-D> saved me from oblivion and thus managed only to lose a couple hundred. :) "Good Luck" in your quest for perfection <crawfb5>. All we can do is try... :^) - Mal

Aug-01-08  redribbon3700: Chessbookie is there going to be any bets on the Mainz Tournament?
Aug-02-08  malthrope: Speaking of which <redribbon3700> - it's gonna be "Anand vs Carlsen" in the Mainz <Chess Classic> Rapids finals! (Moro will play Judit).

Be sure to buy an extra safety belt today... You are definitely going too need it tomorrow! ~lol~ :^)

PS: <ChessBookie> already gave us one main bet - Mainz Rapid: Winner - Unknown if they feel like throwing in two more... :)
