Oct-31-08  malthrope: <NakoSonorense: <malthrope: <Sneaky> I was kicking myself for not <having> bet on that! ~lol~ Good move <Sneaky> :))> I only bet 50 cb on 1.e4 c5, but that's only because I thought that Anand was playing Black! [...]>

~lol~ Well we've all done that or something similar. I'm always placing my bets in the wrong drop down text box. Another fine mess I got myself into was confusing games #2 & #3 in a 'Pick-3' once. :(( Had to spend a ton more to adjust it so that my loses wouldn't be too severe! <sheepish grin> Anyway, glad this bet ("First 2 moves" A Sicilian? Of course!) worked out nicely for you and <Sneaky>! ;)

<ChessBookie>...

World Blitz Championship: WINNER

Cap d'Agde Semi-Final Match: Karpov vs Nakamura

Cap d'Agde Semi-Final Match: Carlsen vs Ivanchuk

Thank You! :)) Even though a lot of us are going to lose even more c-bucks (picking who we <think> are the underdogs!). ~lol~ :^) - Mal

Nov-04-08  technical draw: First post in November.

Nov-04-08  malthrope: <technical draw: First post in November.>

I'm spinning <TD> - I'm spinning! ~lol~ Now, where did all the bets go? <grin> :^)

Nov-04-08  technical draw: <malthorpe> I gotta go to the hospital <malthorpe> I strained my hand scrolling down looking for your name on the rankings list...! What are you doing down there? Do you still have time to recover? I'll just be happy to finish in the top 10 so I can be even with you in the finals...TD
Nov-04-08  malthrope: ~lol~ <TD> Well, I'm afraid <ChessBookie> has assigned me a permanent room number #007! So, I ain't leaving until I see my new movie! <grin> Besides, there are a bunch of us down there: <DCP23>, <SwitchingQuylthulg>, <Stonehenge>, <artyom2008>, <Annie K.> and at the bottom of the heap <danielpi> to name a few... We have great parties every weekend on Saturdays! ;) Come on down and have fun with us <TD> there is always room for one more! :^) - Mal
Nov-04-08  technical draw: <malthorpe> Thanks for the invitation but I have already been invited to the "A" list party. If there's anything left over I'll send some down there!...TD
Nov-04-08  malthrope: Sounds great <TD> - we accept Visa and MasterCard, plus any food items and party favors are most welcome! <grin> :^)
Nov-08-08  malthrope: For those betting on the - World Blitz Championship: WINNER - Blitz tourney. Here are the unofficial results (CG.com has no tourney page as of yet):

Championship crosstable: http://worldblitz2008.kz/championsh...

Note: Scroll to right the players listed in drawing of lots numbers. ;)

Congrats to all betting on GM Leinier Dominguez-Perez -- He went undefeated to win this event! :^) - Mal

Nov-08-08  technical draw: <mal> Someone is going to make a killing with Domiguez. I had bet on 4 players (350cb's) which will probably drop me out of the top 10. I never even considered Dominguez. I should have bet Ivanchuk to place.
Nov-08-08  NakoSonorense: Guess who's got a $300 ticket on Dominguez???
. . . . . . . not me... :(
Nov-08-08  malthrope: Right <TD> I bet $400 on Grishuck (my max $300) and Memadyarov ($100) and crossed my fingers! ~lol~ Those betting on Dominguez are gonna make a killing! Good for them. Maybe <Sneaky> has some good news for us! :^) - Mal

Chnebelgrind: Good boy Dominguez! My new score (3357) should be enough for a visit on the leaderboard.
Nov-08-08  technical draw: <Chnebelgrind> Yes, you'll be on the leaderboard. I'll be off, but I'm glad for you (yeah, sure), no I mean it (yeah, right), hey, I'm generous in defeat (drop dead).

Dominguez, huh? Lucky guess.

Nov-11-08  redribbon3700: hi
Nov-11-08  technical draw: Hi, <redribbon3700>. You've been a member since '04 but you don't kibitz much. Smart guy!
Nov-11-08  danielpi: I said I'd either have the most CB or the most debt, and damnit, I'm well on my way.

Anand-Kramnik did not go at all how I expected. Yikes.

Still, I've already qualified for the winter leg, and I trust Corus and Linares will be better behaved. We shall see... we shall see...

Nov-11-08  technical draw: <mal> Yep, <sneaky> jumped up to 25th place. He' always dangerous, cannot count him out...How are things in Hades?
Nov-11-08  NakoSonorense: <danielpi> It's not as easy as it first seems, right? :)

This game is insane. Anyone can win it. We might be clever and make a couple Ks by picking some safe bets, but at the end, whoever gets lucky will win. And that's that.

If it weren't for <Schaaknerd> who unexplicably has $16,000, a single bet would have <GeauxCool> in first place (I don't know his previous rank, but I don't think he was in the top 12)

So I take comfort in the fact that I'm able to be 5th place... But I know that winning will take much more than "safe bets."

Nov-11-08  malthrope: <technical draw: <mal> Yep, <sneaky> jumped up to 25th place. He' always dangerous, cannot count him out...How are things in Hades?>

Hehehe... <Sneaky> is always climbing his way back! :))

As for the House of Hades... It sizzles down here, or should I say smokin' ? ~lol~ ;)

<NakoSonorense: [...] So I take comfort in the fact that I'm able to be 5th place... But I know that winning will take much more than "safe bets.">

So true! :) Life is a gamble but Chess is a sporting event of which only a select few can make a decent living at...

BTW: If you're not careful you might become my next <ChessBookie> Quote of the Month! <grin> :^) - Mal

Chessgames Bookie: Wagering is open on the 2nd round of the Chess Olympiad.
Nov-13-08  malthrope: <Chessgames Bookie: Wagering is open on the 2nd round of the Chess Olympiad.>

Thanks <ChessBookie> :)) Guessing we shall have to wait a round or two until the Olympiad bets become competitive. When the <underdogs> have a decent chance to tie the match, or who knows even a stunning upset victory! <grin> :^) - Mal

Nov-14-08  brankat: <Chessgames Bookie> There are 3 German teams in Dresden: Germany 1, G.2, and G.3. The bets on the winner were taken as "Germany". Does it mean that a possible win by any of the 3 teams would count? Thanks.
Nov-14-08  malthrope: <brankat: <Chessgames Bookie> There are 3 German teams in Dresden: Germany 1, G.2, and G.3. [...]>

I can help with that <brankat> - it's Germany 1 paired with Slovenia. On the present bet it's made clear - Men's Olympiad Rd 2: Slovenia vs Germany 1 - don't know if it was just added or what. Anyway - Germany 1! <grin> :)) - Mal

Nov-14-08  brankat: <malthrope> Yes, I know, but i was talking about the bet: "The Olympiad Winner". Originally, there was only the "Germany" option, not 1, 2, 3....

I suppose should any one of them win bets will be cashable :-)

Nov-14-08  malthrope: <brankat: <malthrope> Yes, I know, but i was talking about the bet: "The Olympiad Winner". [...]>

Oh, that bet! ~lol~ I suspect 'Germany 1' is best suited to be in medal contention... I'll now let <ChessBookie> take over from here! <sheepish grin> o^0 - Mal
