 | | Chnebelgrind: <mal>, <Nako> thanks. <You beat me by just 405 chessbucks!>. Yes that was narrow. Just as well it could have been the other way. I also had bucks on draw-draw-draw in round 11 and 12 of Elista. Normally I don't set on this ticket. But this two times the odds were remarkable good. In the last round I tried to exceed the 16000 limit and set 110 bucks on sicilian in the Opening-ticket Grischuk-Radjabov, just before betting was closed. Than I went to the live games and realized, that the games were already in progress since half an hour and the opening was a kings indian! Chessbookie generously refounded that 110 bucks (see hais post below)! Otherwise my edge actually would have been only 295 bucks. |

Dec-30-08 | | MrMelad: congratz to <Chnebelgrind> for winning, also congratz to <NakoSonorense> for second place and a 5th (straight) qualification to the WC...
Also thanks to the Bookie, good luck to all qualifiers and players in the WC, and a special thanks to user <Slomarko> for giving me motivation to play :) I also want to thank all the chinese for betting on Wang Yue all the time... :) |

Happy New Year!!! :^)
We all await the Winter Leg final of finals, the championship of championships, the whole enchilada for betting glory, fame and fortune! :) Where the entire collection of <CG.com> bettors await the start with 'baited breath' which in this case is an understatement! ~lol~ - Mal

 | | Chessgames Bookie: ♖ THE WINTER LEG HAS BEGUN ♖
For those who don't know, the format of the ChessBookie game is simple: each year, there are four legs (each about 3 months long). The first three (spring, summer, and fall) are used to determine the qualifiers for the championship (winter) leg. In addition, the defending champion from last year's winter leg, as well as the nine runner-ups, are automatically seeded into the championship. To be qualified for the championship leg means that you will start the game with 10,000 chessbucks instead of the normal 1000. Last year the prize for the Chessbookie World Champion was a $75 Amazon gift certificate and a free premium membership to chessgames.com. This year we hope to up the ante a little bit and have better prizes for the winners. So good luck, and let the wagers begin!

 | | Annie K.: <Mal: <Where the entire collection of <CG.com> bettors await the start with 'baited breath' which in this case is an understatement!>> As well as a misspelling. :p
P.S. - There is no 'I' in 'team'... nor in the expression 'bated breath' (when spelled correctly, anyway). ;) Thanks <Bookie>! :) |

Jan-04-09 | | malthrope: Oh "Happy Days" are here again! <grin> There seems to have been a massive cash infusion of C-bucks recently! :P Arno Nickel vs The World: 30. (which piece?)
Which piece? How many pieces do we have?? I'll have to count them... One by one! ~lol~ "Good Luck" everyone!!! :)))

PS: <Annie: <Mal> As well as a misspelling. :p -- P.S. - There is no 'I' in 'team'... nor in the expression 'bated breath' (when spelled correctly, anyway). ;)> Picky-piccolo-picaboo! ;)

 | | Annie K.: Ah, sorry Mal, it's just that you strayed into Pet Peeve Territory there! ;) <Mal: <There seems to have been a massive cash infusion of C-bucks recently! :P>> Unfortunately, the Bookie was also picky... ;( |

Jan-06-09 | | malthrope: <Annie K.: Ah, sorry Mal, it's just that you strayed into Pet Peeve Territory there! ;)> ~lol~ No problem Annie! :)
Besides, when you exercise your right of <PPT> it's always an education for me (and to 'others' I suspect). At any rate, the important thing is that the <ChessBookie> Winter Leg Championship has finally started! :^) - Mal |

Jan-17-09 | | karoaper: Hey Thanks.
Oh noes, a loanshark? Am I gonna have to take another mortgage on my house? |
|
Jan-21-09 | | technical draw: I think Switching is going to run away with this one so I'm setting my sights on 3rd place. I got killed in the last round losing almost 5,000 CB's... |

 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: I'd think anyone prepared to bet chessbucks on Umansky's first move being 2.e4 deserves really good odds. |
|
Jan-27-09
 | | Sneaky: <I think Switching is going to run away with this one> I for one an amazed, he's already doubled the 2nd place player, and quadrupled my meager score (even though I've poked into the leaderboard for the first time). Fortune favors the bold, they say. |

Jan-29-09 | | percyblakeney: If Radjabov had had five seconds more on his clock against Smeets I'd be in first place, small margins... Time for an all-in round and I'll have 0 or 50 000 chessbucks after it. :-) |
|
Jan-29-09 | | malthrope: <percyblakeney: If Radjabov had had five seconds more on his clock against Smeets I'd be in first place, small margins... [...]> I hear you Percy! :)
Since I too was on 'pins & needles' awaiting the resolution of what happened and if the arbiters decision was final with this bet in the last round #10... *** Near MISS ***
SETTLEMENT DATE: Jan-28-09
PROJECTED PAYOUT: -- (16:1)
Corus A: Rd 10: Pick Three
Draw-White-White 250
LOSE [discard ticket]

Jan-29-09 | | percyblakeney: <malthrope> I had lots of luck last year so I guess things even out :-) Almost getting a bit humorous with my big bets on Carlsen beating Karjakin, Aronian beating van Wely and then the biggest of them all on Radjabov beating Smeets. In all "my" winners probably missed over a dozen wins in these games. :-) |

Jan-29-09 | | malthrope: <Annie K.: Re: Radja vs Smeets - let's not talk about that... ;s> Your wish is granted Annie... ;) What happened in the last round stays in the last round! ~lol~ <Vegas grin> <percyblakeney: <malthrope> I had lots of luck last year so I guess things even out :-)> Yeah they do Percy since 'Lady Luck' sure is a fickle one! You just never know what winning or losing streak will befall upon you. ;) Besides, lots of big Chess Tournaments, matches and events all coming right up with Gibraltar (hope <ChessBookie> can add a few rounds for betting soon), Jan 27-Feb 5, the Moscow Open 2009 (Jan 31-Feb 8), GM Eugenio Torre vs GM Wesley So playing a 12 game classical match starting Feb 10th, and the Aeroflot Open (Feb 16-27). Finally the famous ones -- with the 26th edition of Torneo Internacional 'Ciudad de Linares' (Feb 18-March 8), and the annual Amber 'Rapids & Blindfold' Chess Tournament which follows all make for a fitting end to the grand conclusion of the <CG.com> Winter Leg Championship! "Good Luck" everyone! :^) - Mal |
