Penguincw: I made a small profitting round, mostly thanks to this bet:

Polish Championship Rd 9: Bartel-Markowski : Bartel [info] 250 LIVE BET 2:1 2.93 732 Feb-26-12

Feb-26-12  dakgootje: Interesting - I've got the exact same bet :P

Penguincw: How interesting. :) I should've added 1250 to that. However, I would be changing to odds of my own bet. :(

Stonehenge: <The final leg of the year is special, in that the winners and runners up of the previous three legs will start the Winter Leg with 10,000 chessbucks instead of the normal 1,000>.

Isn't 10,000 a bit too much? Why not letting all players start with 1,000 chessbucks and double their winnings? I mean every time a <winner or a runner up> wins a bet, his profit is being doubled.

Example: bet = 200, pay out = 350.

If you are not a <winner or a runner up> you get 350 cbs. If you are a <winner or a runner up> you get 500 cbs.

Mar-01-12  dakgootje: Won't work - you'd be able to bet all 3 outcomes and be guaranteerd a profit, despite juice.

E.g. say W/B/D at 25/25/50, with juice you might get odds like 3.75; 3.75; 1.90.

So I bet 100 on W and B; 200 on D. 400 at stake.

If white or black, return 100+2x275=650 [+250].
If draw: 200+2x180=560 [+160].

SwitchingQuylthulg: Yes, it would be a much bigger advantage than starting with c$10,000!

Stonehenge: <If white or black, return 100+2x275=650 [+250]>. Yes, but you lose 100 on black or white, and 200 on a draw. So now you have 650-300 = 350, so you have lost 50, no?

I'm very bad at maths; I have the feeling I'm making a mistake here.

SwitchingQuylthulg: <Stonehenge> It looks like you're doubling the losses as well :)

Anyway, I see no reason to tamper with the current system. The people who qualified are <supposed> to have a big advantage - but it's not at all impossible for non-qualifiers to win.

Mar-01-12  wordfunph: <The people who qualified are <supposed> to have a big advantage - but it's not at all impossible for non-qualifiers to win.>

correct.

i believe there is no problem with 10k for Championships qualifiers, they deserve it. Plain and simple.

good morning <all>..

OhioChessFan: I'm with <Stonehenge> I think the 10,000 is <too much> of an advantage, but so be it. Them's the rules. My take is I won't bother to participate this round. I'm a little surprised so many are trying.

OhioChessFan: <Switch: Anyway, I see no reason to tamper with the current system. The people who qualified are <supposed> to have a big advantage - but it's not at all impossible for non-qualifiers to win.>

I suppose the NFL could scrap their current playoff system and let everyone in. But those who did qualify would be spotted 21 points a game. It would be a big advantage, but not at all impossible for non-qualifiers to win.

Anyway, I think it's a bit pointless for CB to let everyone in with such a huge disadvantage. Why not go ahead and make it a playoff for qualifiers only and stop the charade?

SwitchingQuylthulg: <OhioChessFan> The leader is currently at c$32K. The regular leg earning record is c$41K (and it's easier to earn big money during the Winter Leg)! <hairmajorchair> once finished 2nd and less than 1000 chessbucks from winning the Winter Leg from a c$1K start... similarly, <technical draw> once finished 3rd without qualifying. Try telling him he shouldn't have bothered to play :)

And if we look at the leg currently under way, two non-qualifiers have already visited the rarefied air of 10K+, including a leaderboard appearance by <Patzerschreck>.

In other words, not only is it very much doable, but for at least one non-qualifier to make the eventual Winter Leg top 10 is more the rule than the exception... this despite the fact that the players who did qualify are supposedly stronger.

Penguincw: This hasn't happened for quite some time, but a bet is going to closed soon (13 hours).

Reykjavik Open: WINNER

Say, is it possible to include round by round betting, and even more?

Mar-06-12  dakgootje: Indeed - some actual game bets would be nice ;)

Reykjavik Open 2012 3rd round pairings..

let's have some action, please?

Mar-08-12  brankat: The third round already! It would be nice to have P-3 action.

Otherwise <SwitchingQuylthulg> will just keep on sitting on his hands, and coast home without ever even being challenged :-)

Can we please have some action.

In other news, Mecking vs Granda Match: WINNER closes in less than 1 week (6 days, 19 hours at the moment).

Mar-08-12  technical draw: I think Granda will destroy Mecking. Unless it's already been decided to have an amicable tie.

Penguincw: Sighs. Lost 98. If I bet backups, I would only lose 38. :-\
Mar-09-12  brankat: No betting for tomorrow, Saturday, March 10th!? Why, why, why?
Mar-09-12  wordfunph: <brankat>

it's now open, European Individual Women's Championship: Rd 8
