You are young. You will survive :-)

As Stalin used to instruct the chief of his security apparatus, Abakumov, in regards to young people:

"We have to be especially intolerant to mistakes/faults of young people. Give them 20 years, 25 years. Not only 10. Ten years is like a kindergarten. They are young. They will survive."

Lucky You!

Aug-18-12  wordfunph: flag is thicker than chessbucks :)

<Philippines 1,000 13:1 13.64 A winning 10 chessbuck ticket pays out 136 chessbucks.>

Aug-18-12  brankat: <wordfunph> It is also a sure road to ruin :-)
Aug-18-12  brankat: <Chessgames Bookie> While we are waiting for the Olympiad to start, would it be possible to have some betting on the current French Championship? There are still 5 rounds remaining. Thank You.

Chessgames Bookie: Betting on the French Championship now online. I hope I did the math right: I have these bets closing at 8:00am EDT.
Aug-19-12  brankat: Yes, that would be 2:00 PM in France.

Chessgames Bookie: I noticed that I accidentally listed Malaysia two times in the country list for World Chess Olympiad: WINNER (GOLD). To correct it I changed the second Malaysia listing to Malta.

Should Malta take the gold medal, I promise to correctly pay off the "OTHER" ticket holders properly, since until just now their tickets included Malta. I'm a magnanimous guy and that's a chance I'm willing to take.

Sneaky: Well since you put it that way, I'll put one buck on Malta with 16000:1 odds. Sounds about fair.
Aug-21-12  brankat: <Sneaky> Minimum bet, I think, is c$5. You will collect a fortune :-)
Aug-21-12  dakgootje: Minimum-bet amount depends on the bet.

In general c$ 5 for normal sides; and 2 for pick-3. Such a big tournament indeed has a minimum of 1.

16k:1 for Malta indeed sounds about right.. ;)

SwitchingQuylthulg: No way Malta's chances are that good :)
Aug-21-12  dakgootje: Probably not - but it's nice to have a tease if they win their first round ;D
Aug-22-12  dakgootje: You appear to have forgotten putting up lines for tomorrows round :)
Aug-23-12  brankat: <dakgootje> It only appeared that way :-)
Aug-23-12  dakgootje: Hindsight is a cruel mistress ;D

87th French Chess Championship 2012

Mark Crowther (Fri Aug 24 12:32:00 2012)

The French Chess Championships for men and women take place in Pau 13th to 25th August 2012. Romain Edouard, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, Etienne Bacrot and Christian Bauer all had 7/10 going into the final round. However then there was the shock news of the death of Christian Bauer's 4 month old child. On the proposal of the players the 11th and final round was cancelled. Edouard, Vachier and Bacrot will play off for the title on Saturday.

Aug-24-12  brankat: Tragic news.

Chessgames Bookie: Due to the tragic death of Bauer's baby boy, the 11th round of the French Championship has been cancelled by request of the players. All bets for that round have received full refunds.

A playoff between the other three leaders (Edouard, Vachier-Lagrave, Bacrot) will take place on Saturday: French Championship: PLAYOFF.

Chessgames Bookie: That playoff has been cancelled and refunded. All four players have been declared 2012 champions, frankly I think that's and a very good decision.

Diademas: Is there a website that lists the players in the uppcomming olympics? Thank you.
Aug-25-12  dakgootje: As Wordfunph posted last page:

http://register.chessolympiadistanb... has all teams and their players.

Fun-fact: all Burundi-players have a rating of 0, so even WannaBe would play as top board there! :)
