Apr-06-15  wordfunph: cheers to our good friend <Switch> for winning the 2015 World ChessBookie!

congrats to all runner-ups!

special mention to MasterBookie <Annie K.> who did a splendid task in satisfying our thirst. Finally you experienced how difficult (but enjoyable) to hold this contest harhar :)

to my fellow cellar-dwellers, better luck next time.

...and to <chessgames.com>, great great thanks!

Penguincw: I'm not sure which side to take in this debate, so I'll remain neutral, for now...

So, just to be sure, will the Spring Leg see a 1 (one) year membership to the winner and all top 10 (ten) (regardless of whether they qualified before) qualifying for the Championship season?

And here's something that just popped to my head: for the Championship leg, should it be divided into qualifiers and non-qualifiers, with more prizes available for the former? Any thoughts on this?

Apr-06-15  WinKing: First of all I would like to thank <Annie K.> for conjuring up some tantalizing bets for us gambling junkies.

Congratulations to <SwitchingQuylthulg> on another fine performance winning the WINTER 2015 • CHAMPIONSHIP LEG.

Apr-06-15  WinKing: <chessgames.com: We decided that this is a bad idea and canceled that practice.>

Nice of you to tell us after the year is up. I don't recall any mentioning that this practice would change during the year or maybe I missed something.

Had I finished 4th thru 10th in the Championship leg I have to admit I would have been somewhat disgruntled at not receiving anything other than being automatically seeded into next year's Championship. Just my feelings...just saying.

Annie K.: Thanks for the compliments, <cg> and everybody!

Hmm... I agree with <cg> that giving the top-10 finalists both prizes and a seeding to next year's qualifiers creates an unfair self-perpetuating cycle. But maybe it would be better to cancel the seeding part?

So that the Championship leg top-10 would get the membership prizes, but no seeding from this leg - the three regular legs, with all competing on equal basis, would be the only legs when one can earn a qualification for the 10,000 start. That would seem to make more sense to me. :)

  chessgames.com: Esteemed Chessbookie! players:

After some consideration, we have decided to recant and award 7 one-year premium memberships to places 4-10.

As has been pointed out, players positioned themselves in the finals with an expectation of what the payout structure would be, and to alter that unexpectedly is quite unfair.

In our defense, the prizes of the Chessbookie! game have never been announced in advance; it's always been a surprise. Although this is an admittedly sloppy practice, the prizes have tended to only get better over time, so we've never received any complaints.

In summary, we will award 7 one year memberships shortly but this will be the last leg in which we do that, at least until further notice. Furthermore we will begin adopting the practice to announce the Championship Leg prizes in advance, at least by the start of the Championship Leg itself.

We hope this decision is satisfactory for all involved.

Apr-06-15  WinKing: Good call chessgames - kudos on your change of heart! I agree with all said in your response to the members. Looking forward to a new season with 'SuperBookie' <Switch> at the helm. ;)
Apr-06-15  technical draw: Yeah! I won something!

Penguincw: < If two or more players tie for first place on points, the official tie-breaks will be followed to determine a single winner. >

All of a sudden, I'm starting to miss multiple payoffs...

Apr-07-15  Beholder: <Chessgames Bookie>, could you please check my account? Something strange has happened, my C$200 bet on Krush to win her game is listed twice.

This should not have happened because:

1. my bet limit is currently 200, how was it possible to bet twice that?

2. even if so, why are they listed separately and not as a single 400 bet?

As far as I recall, I have only bet once @ 200.

Apr-07-15  Everyone: <Chessgames Bookie> I'm in. And I'm in to win.

chessgames.com: <Beholder> Thank you for pointing that out; I am as confused as you are. What has happened is supposed to be impossible.

Based on what you have said I will cancel one of your bets.

chessgames.com: I have a theory why that might have happened. There could be what's called a 'race condition' that manifests on rare occasions. I see by the logfiles you really did place the bet twice in rapid succession; probably an accidental double-click. Anyhow, there are methods to prevent this; thanks again.
Apr-07-15  Beholder: <chessgames.com: Based on what you have said I will cancel one of your bets.>

Thanks, that would be best. There is however a new problem: after clicking on 'refund' I did not get my C$200 back.

Chessgames Bookie: <Beholder> Unfortunately I can't do that myself; a superadmin (Daniel Freeman) will have to examine the log files and add c$200 to your account if necessary. Be patient, and don't worry - we'll sort the issue out soon enough.
Apr-08-15  Beholder: <Chessgames Bookie> Thank you! It has been sorted out.

Too bad I have also genuinely lost most of my chessbucks myself :)

  Penguincw: What the...

Since the last leaderboard update (which was earlier this morning) only 2 bets totalling 2107 cbs have been settled, yet I drop from 8th to 12th by being stationary. :|

I don't remember ChessBookie being this hard...
