May-19-06  NakoSonorense: Shoot, that means i wont be playing until Sofia ends.

Grrrr, YOU BETTER WIN TOPALOVOOOOOO!!!

May-19-06  RonB52734: <CC> I was going to suggest that we try some "friendly" "bets" on someone's forum for our game (and other member games). I think it would be fun. Let's think about this!

I don't begrudge The Bookie his decision. I think it is, overall, the better one. But we can still do, uh, "a little something on the side."

(Maybe I shouldn't be so quick to use that phrase after the video thing.....) :-)

May-19-06  Chess Classics: <ATTENTION!>

After a suggestion by <suenteus po 147> I have decided to have betting on the games that he has reffered to for his test. Betting is now open-please send your bet to lukeallen40@yahoo.com, and mention what your handle at chessgames.com is.

Events that you can bet on:

WannaBe-suenteus po 147
WannaBe-a30seclegend
a30seclegend-suenteus po 147
a30seclegend-WannaBe
suenteus po 147-a30seclegend
suenteus po 147-WannaBe

You will all start out with 1000 chessbucks. For the sake of convienance, no loans are available.

In your predictions, include your expected outcome(s) and the amount you are putting on each outcome(s). Note that you can predict up to and including 3 outcomes, but also note that that would be quite stupid since I, like the bookie, am taking a 10% juice. Unfortunately, I can't update the odds at all.

Note: Please do NOT post your bets on my forum! However, if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Oh, and <WannaBe> <suenteus po 147> and <a30seclegend> cannot bet on their own games! :-)

Regards,
CC

May-20-06  suenteus po 147: Now comes the part in the episode when <Moe> shows up at my chessforum and asks me how much sleep I've been getting. Is my rating up? Is my rating down? Have I had a run of bad games? These are just ordinary questions the gaming community might be interested in. And I as I kick <Moe> out of my forum he's screaming about someone taking his thumbs.

What have I gotten myself into? ;)

May-20-06  suenteus po 147: Also, the official schedule for the tournament can be found on my player page: Peter Alfred Fontaine. The first round, which is <WannaBe>-<suenteus po 147>, will take place at 9:30pm EST on Monday, May 22nd.
May-20-06  naamloos: I'm slowly dropping down the list, small bets won't do anymore. I think I have to make a couple of big ones in order to still make a chance to get in the top ten.
May-20-06  percyblakeney: I have 1000 on Russia in the Olympiad, a good idea would maybe have been to put everything on them but then it's boring to have nothing to bet on for a couple of weeks...
May-20-06  percyblakeney: It gets a bit extra tricky with the Olympiad since the betting closed a couple of days before it starts, while new teams still are entered and no line-ups or board orders are confirmed. But in this case it made no difference to me, since Russia is big favourites to an OK odds and I never considered betting on another team...
May-20-06  TrueBlue: Bulgaria is going to win the chess Olympiad, that's a no brainer. Too bad betting is closed and I didn't put any money.
May-20-06  dbquintillion: What can you do if there was an error on the bookmaking page when you placed a bet? I have a position on Topalov-Bacrot tomorrow that I don't want. I just placed the bet because the page showed odds of 29:1 for a draw, which I thought was too good to pass up. After my bet was confirmed, it changed the odds to 5:2 and I don't want the bet at those odds. I know it says no refunds for bets, but it changed my bet after I placed it! I was given incorrect information. The odds seemed too good to be true, but it feels unfair to be stuck with a bet I don't want. Even though I know its just a silly chess betting game.
May-20-06  TrueBlue: db, welcome to the party, that's how it works :). Odss keep changing with new bets. I had it even worse than you. I bet 1000, I won, but they canceled my bet without my persmission! I complained, but I didn't get any money :(
May-20-06  naamloos: There was no error made. The odds are based on what has been bet. The odds used are the odds when the betting closes. It has been explained more than once on this forum and it is also explained on the help page.
May-20-06  TIMER: Well, I have gone from about outright last with -3200 to over +2000 since yesterday morning! I got pick threes right again today, as well as some other bets! That shows that you should never give up!

WannaBe: There will be no Handicapper's Corner for Round 10. Sorry for any inconveniences.

The 'Corner' will return in the future. :-)

May-20-06  suenteus po 147: If <WannaBe> will allow me to fill in for him:

Handicapper's Corner for Round 10 of MTel.

Topalov-Bacrot
Topalov leads it +4 -0 =6, when Topalov has white pieces he is +1 -0 =3 against Bacrot.

Ponomariov-Anand
Ponomariov is way behind with +1 -7 =11, when Ponomariov has white pieces, he is +1 -1 =6 against Anand.

Svidler-Kamsky
Svidler narrowly trails with +0 -1 =1, in the one game Svidler had white (11 years ago), he is +0 -0 =1 against Kamsky.

Good luck to everyone!

May-20-06  technical draw: Well, JOHHNY YORK really took a dive. By the way so did I. I better change my approach to this type of gamble or it's the poor house for me soon..

Sneaky: Hey, if Topa and Kamsky tie for first, who will get first place by tiebreaks? Does Topa win since he owned Kamsky in their head-to-head games?

I have a 2 chessbuck perfecta for Kamsky-Topalov and a 7 chessbuck perfecta for Topalov-Kamsky, plus the coveted Topalov-Kamsky quinella. I "wheeled" Kamsky.

May-20-06  Joshka: <Sneaky> Good questions! Damn I have 50 chessbucks on Kamsky win, 50 chessbucks on the Kamsky-Topalov perfecta, and 50 on Topalov-Kamsky quinella. Looks like we need Topalov and Anand to draw in the last games, and Gata to win to make some cake. I was down to zero funds about a week ago. Still have not borrowed a red cent from the bookie, and if Kamsky holds the lead and Topa finishes 2nd, I'll go well over 10 grand.
May-20-06  TrueBlue: Sneaky, Topa will win because of direct matches. I was thinking of puting 15 000 on Topa winning tomorrow. But the pot of him loosing or tieing is so small :) We will see, I still have time.
May-21-06  JOHNNY YORK: yea, i did a bad job today, i took out a loan and bet 9000 on a topa/kamsky draw, then kamsky pulls some qf3 crap move during the game???? i had won all my big bets up to this point. ohh well, we'll see if i can get back into it.

sorry for the caps, my button is stuck

May-21-06  technical draw: The Chessbookie missed a great chance to set up a tri-fecta for the Olympiad. Top 3 finishers. That would have brought some BIG bucks..
May-21-06  JOHNNY YORK: i got 1800 left but i owe shark 4080, what do you think i should put my money on, i was gonna do all 1800 on the ruy lopez for topa tomorrow
May-21-06  blingice: <JY> You don't have 1800 left. You have -1800.
May-21-06  JOHNNY YORK: no, my net work is -1800, because of the loan, i still have 1500 (i think it's 1500 not 1800) to spend, just because the loan counts against my net worth dosen't mean i can't spend the 1500 i have left

Chessgames Bookie: All Mtel bets have been paid off. The final odds were:

Topalov to win Mtel paid 5:6

The Topalov-Kamsky quinella paid 47:1

The Topalov-Kamsky perfecta paid 50:1

Congratulations to those who won.
