WannaBe: Banning multiple account from the same IP may not work well, some members here do maintain very valid multiple (premium) accounts.

I have my regular <WannaBe> account, but I also maintain User: FICS account.

And I know <TheAlchemist> has his regular account and <MemorableQuotes> account, both are premium membership.

May-18-06  TrueBlue: so wannaBe, you have an idea of how to make the system more fair, or you believe it is fine the way it is?

WannaBe: <TrueBlue> That's a relative tough question, barring using real money, which would then make this web-site a completely different purpose than its original intention.

I personally think it's really silly to cheat the system to gain 'chess bucks' and/possibly obtain the glory to be on top of the money list. (You can tell, I'm at 0 chess bucks. And I post Handicapper's Corner!! Ironies of ironies. =)

The main problem, still is that any new member gets 1k automatically, hence, the total pool/available amount is technically limitless. And yes, odds can be tilted...

I, therefore, have no real answer to your question.

However, I noticed, that when I borrow money from loan shark and wait 5 min, go back, loan shark asks me to pay back the same amount as that I borrowed.

So, it seems to me that the algorithm for loan shark only charges you interest after 1 day/24 hours. The interest does not accumulate immediately.

So, if you're short on money, borrow it before the bet closes, and pay the loan shark back after you win, before the interest kicks in. :-)

May-18-06  RonB52734: <ChessBookie>: My friend <WannaBe> and I will be playing an online tournament game in the near future. I hereby submit <WannaBe>'s great idea that you allow bets on it. Drop a note in either of our forums (fora?) if you need more details.
May-18-06  NakoSonorense: <Good to see you, NakoSonorense! I was thinkin' maybe you skipped town. Come to pay me back, I assume? You're into me for 656 chessbucks, you know.> buahahahaha, Im never paying back that money!!!
May-19-06  RonB52734: Hi <Nako>! How are ya? School going well?

Chessgames Bookie: Ive' been informed that the recent requirement to provide valid email addresses (see chessgames.com chessforum for info) will soon be enforced on the ChessBookie game. In this way the practice of making multiple accounts to tilt the odds will soon be made much more difficult.

If you haven't done it already, visit the Account Activation Page and make sure that your email is verified. If you don't take this step you might be locked out of the game temporarily.

Let me also say that at the end of the leg, we will review the betting records of the top 10 qualifiers and make sure that nobody has qualified due to hanky-panky.

Chessgames Bookie: <RonB52734> It sounds like a fun idea but I fear that too many people would raise concerns that the match is not legitimate; i.e. it could be a fix designed to win huge sums of chessbucks for a friend's account. We'd prefer if we restrict this to professional chess events.

  cu8sfan: <We'd prefer if we restrict this to professional chess events.> Define professional. It took most of the players a while to be convinced but in the end they agreed on losing to Kamsky in order for me to win big bets. (-;
May-19-06  percyblakeney: Best odds at the Olympiad was maybe 2.06 on Russia. On the "real" betting linked at the official Olympiad site Russia is below 1.50 at the moment.
May-19-06  RonB52734: <I fear that too many people would raise concerns that the match is not legitimate>

Well, for the right chessbucks price.....

:)

May-19-06  Holden: <WannaBe> <Banning multiple account from the same IP may not work well, some members here do maintain very valid multiple (premium) accounts.>

True, but the rule is to use only one account to play the chessgames bookie game. Banning all multiple accounts isn't necessary; a ban on using multiple accounts to play the bookie game is already in effect.

As I've heard a politician say in the current US/Mexico border control debate, "We don't need new laws, we just need to enforce the laws we already have."

WannaBe: Handicapper's Corner for Round 9 of MTel.

Kamsky-Topalov
Topalov leads it +3 -0 =2, when Kamsky has white pieces he is +0 -1 =1 against Topalov.

Anand-Svidler
Anand leads it +6 -2 =20, when Anand has white pieces, he is +6 -1 =6 against Svidler.

Bacrot-Ponomariov
Bacrot has a slim lead of +2 -1 =6, when Bacrot has white pieces, he is +1 -0 =3 against Ponomariov.

Good luck everyone!! (I know I'll need it.)

May-19-06  dakgootje: just something i just thought of, which might be helpful for some of the gamblers here: a "bet on all ammount X" or something

<WannaBe> Not gonna bet myself on this round, but good luck

Chessgames Bookie: <So here is what I believe it should be done. The house should take no cut! People should get interest on their money in order for the money in circulation to increase.> Those are all good ideas. The idea of a house taking no cut is not realistic but it would lend itself to a healthier economy for the purposes of the game. Remember, though, the Loanshark can continually put more cash into the game by loaning the losers $100/day. <New accounts from the same IP should not be allowed.> Not plausible, as IP addresses are not unique indentifiers. Moreover, the new email system supercedes that. <And can't the house just fix initial odds and manipulate them according to incoming bets?> That's also a good idea. I could dip into my huge bankroll and place bets across the board just to start things off. Nobody wants to make the very first bet, so things have trouble building momentum. We're a little concerned that our skills at the art of oddsmaking may skew some events, but I suppose even if that happens it's still a fair game because everybody can try to capitalize equally on our decisions.

Chessgames Bookie: <accusations> I would prefer to not see people accusing other users of cheating. We have access to all the information you have, plus a lot more, so we're in the position to know. Some of the aforementioned suspects were indeed cheaters (or dummy accounts used by a cheater) but other people on the list I am 99% certain are innocent. In short, leave that dirty business to us.

WannaBe: Good thing no one has accused me of cheating.
May-19-06  TIMER: With Topalov winning, I recover my losses from yesterday with the correct pick three. Back from about -3200 to about -1400

Why is it I get the pick threes right when I have not much to bet, and wrong when I have a lot? I got two of the last 4 pick threes right. I could have been back to 3000 or 4000 already if I got one right at the right time!

May-19-06  NakoSonorense: chessbookie, it's been more than two days since the last time i got a loan. I've been trying to get another one, but for some reason the loanshark wont let me. :( Whys that?
May-19-06

lostemperor: <TIMER> I admire your perseverance.

About your question, I have sort of the same problem. Winning four consecutive days a total of 700, only to throw away double that money like in two or three bets.

May-19-06
Premium Chessgames Member
Chessgames Bookie: <NakoSonorense> Your net worth is big enough to prevent you from getting more loans for the time being. At this point, the loan shark will extend you more credit only if you win big or lose big.
May-19-06  Chess Classics: What about instead of the official bookie doing the odds on <WannaBe>-<RonB52734>, the betters email someone (me) with their bets and I can compute the odds, etc. If this works well, I could do this on all events.

And <WannaBe> and <RonB52734> can't bet on their own game! :-)

Regards,
CC

May-19-06  suenteus po 147: <Chess Classics> There's also a three kibitzer double round robin tournament starting on Monday. It's among myself, <WannaBe>, and <a30seclegend>. We will be playing one game a day for six days in the Yahoo Intermediate Area, Medium Strip. You could use our small competition to experiement with bets that way too.
