 | | Penguincw: Ah, so nice to be a bookie in a difficult tournament like the Sinquefield Cup, where you rather win big or lose big. As the bookie, I gained 1104 cbs worth of juice, but as a bettor, I (would've) lost 293 cbs using my typical conservative strategy. |

 | | WannaBe: Bookie's buying a round of Monkey Juice for everyone!!! |

Aug-23-15
 | | Penguincw: Woah! I see that about 30 users have joined in the last 24 hours. Is that a non-opening day record? :p Thank you all for joining this game. You make me feel good about myself. :) |

 | | FSR: <168. MarkFinan 88> Mark, Mark, Mark. Just two days you were at <6. MarkFinan 3,481>. On that date, you fell to <19. MarkFinan 2,431>, while boasting, <Fred.. At least I had the cahones [sic] to put 1000 cb's on a game.> Do you remember that advice I offered you in response: <Bet smart, Mark - not necessarily big.>? Apparently not.
<You're about to laugh because I placed ALL my cb's and 1250 from the loanshark on today's games.> Sic transit gloria, Mark. |

 | | FSR: As for the other person who's declared war on me:
<sydbarrett: FSR.
I must break you>
<sydbarrett: ... darn it Mark. treat it like a marathon. don't worry. I'll pummel FSR for u> Here's the top of the leaderboard:
<(1) Chnebelgrind 7,125
(2) sydbarrett 7,018
(3) FSR 5,853
(4) SwitchingQuylthulg 5,457>
Nice showing, Syd, but I'd hardly say that you've "broken" me or are "pummeling" me - unless you contend that you've also broken two-time world champion <Switch> and everyone below him. |
|
Aug-24-15
 | | FSR: I'd already forgotten this immortal quote of Mark's from yesterday: <Me and Syd are skilled Jedi's, Fred's a padawan learner.> Padawan Learner 5,853 - Skilled Jedi 88.
Has there ever been a more crushing victory? |
|
| Aug-24-15 | | sydbarrett: Don't place bets while your internet is laggy- something about it can lead to double placements. But I suppose it just means double the money for me when I win again! |
|
Aug-24-15
 | | Penguincw: < Don't place bets while your internet is laggy- something about it can lead to double placements. > You're not alone - pretty much everyone has been there before. :p |

<Me and Syd are skilled Jedi's, Fred's a padawan learner.> Padawan Learner 5,853 - Skilled Jedi 88.
Has there ever been a more crushing victory?> Well Syd B is crushing you and I have 1000 + on live bets. Let's see where the Jedi's and the padawan are at the end. I've already qualified btw. |
|
Aug-24-15
 | | FSR: I'm crushing you like a bug, Mark, and I'll still be crushing you like a bug at the end of the leg. Don't try to ride Syd's coattails. |

| Aug-24-15 | | MarkFinan: Silly man, Frederick. Sometimes fools win battles, generals win wars! My troops are just busy right now, lol.
Let's see at the end.
And for the record (in case the ticket pays) I meant to put 30 on WDD and put 3!? |
|
Aug-24-15
 | | Penguincw: < Sometimes fools win battles, generals win wars! > I'm going to use that quote in my daily life now everytime I'm losing to someone in anything. Thanks <Mark>! Reminder that any games lasting over 4 hours will be paid off later in the night. Sometimes, I might get access via. mobile, so if someone could post all the results when they're done, that increases the chances of a quicker payoff (but no promises). :) However, the leaderboard doesn't update 'till the next morning, and I'm sure all of you passed basic math in school (or have a calculator), so I don't think it really matters, but I understand that you all love clicking "cash in ticket". |

 | | WannaBe: Well, for that Pluto Bet, if I did my math right, as long as Topa/Naka does not do an Epic Game of 110 moves, the under should be good. |
|
Aug-24-15
 | | FSR: Topalov beat Seirawan in 73. |
|
| Aug-24-15 | | sydbarrett: Bad start to day... lost several hundred when the first two games ended in draws (I strongly dislike "draw") but I recovered with my infallible deductions that Top, Carlsen and Grischuk would win. Pluto bet was free money with 99% chance of no-default... And finally the big chip I placed on "white-black-draw" came through. Damn, I think I'm getting too good at this game...! I've spoiled myself. I don't know if I'll ever be able to tolerate a losing day again |
|
Aug-24-15
 | | FSR: For "Seirawan," read "Nakamura." |
|
| Aug-25-15 | | MarkFinan: Well done Syd B. Keep your foot on Frederick's neck and stop him climbing up. I'll make a late run for the top 4. It should be me, you, Darth Chnebly and Sith lord Switch with a 5 figure score. Loanshark!! Yesterday I had 1500 on live bets and a net worth of 80 cb's, I owed him around 1100 and I still got a 650 loan, which I appreciated. Still <yesterday> (you can check it out for yourself) as games were finishing and I was recouping a few cb's, I paid him 1000 back. Today...I have similar amount on live wagers and he won't lend me a penny! Now I know people in low places. If this isn't sorted by 30 min before closing of betting today, I'll get all the old crew together and do him, lol. Please sort it Pengerz. I need to humiliate Fred Flintstone. |
|
Aug-25-15
 | | Penguincw: Hold on <Mark>. Are you saying there's a possible error with the LoanShark? Reminder that I have no control of the Loanshark. The only powers I have are creating/editing bets, and paying them off (and updating the announcements). |
|
| Aug-25-15 | | MarkFinan: I'm not quite saying there's an error, I'm just saying its weird how I could borrow 650 when I was 1000 in debt and can't borrow 6 cb's now I paid him some off. I knew I should just keep ignoring the little 10, 20, 30 cb drops per round until I had the funds to pay everything and didn't need to borrow anything! But if you can have a word with the loansharks that be? |
|
Aug-25-15
 | | Penguincw: I haven't used the loanshark in nearly 4 years, so I forgot how he worked. The mechanics of him are really complicated. If you ask me, I think he should <always> loan you half of your net worth or 100 cbs, whichever is higher. This is regardless of your net worth, credit rating, or any existing loan. Of course, after you've taken out a first loan, the next loans will only be 100 cbs. I think <Switch> summed it up here: Chessgames Bookie chessforum (kibitz #8131). < you can only get one loan per calendar day, unless you've fully paid back your previous loan before requesting the new one. > So it seems that whenever he offers you a loan, and you take it without paying him back, the next day, he'll offer a smaller loan, and he'll only do that every other day 'till you paid off <everything> (I don't know, I never use him). < But if you can have a word with the loansharks that be? > You mean if I could go modify the Loanshark, would I do it? Uh, sure. :p |
|
Aug-25-15
 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: <MarkFinan> No bug with the Loanshark. I've explained how the Loanshark works before, but basically, he gives two types of loans - "regular" loans and hard luck loans - based on two numbers: your net worth and your credit rating. "Regular" loans go up to about half your net worth (I have a net worth of c$6,153, so I'm offered a 3,000 chessbuck loan). Hard luck loans are only offered to people in or near the cellar. They're smaller than regular loans (and based on your credit rating rather than your net worth); but unlike regular loans, you can get a new hard luck loan every day regardless of any existing loan you may have. If you have a net worth of c$6,153 and an existing loan of c$3,000, that's it; no more loans for you until your net worth goes up or you pay back (or fall into the cellar and qualify for a hard luck loan). On the other hand, if you have a net worth of c$-6,153 and an existing loan of c$9,000, you can get one new hard luck loan (of up to 1,000 chessbucks) every day. Although hard luck loans are usually associated with negative net worths, a net worth of c$88 is just low enough to qualify for one, so old Sharky offered you a hard luck loan yesterday. A net worth of c$710 is <not> low enough to qualify for a hard luck loan, so you can only get a regular loan; but since you have an existing loan of more than half your net worth, you don't qualify for a regular loan either. |

| Aug-25-15 | | MarkFinan: <I think <Switch> summed it up here: Chessgames Bookie chessforum (kibitz #8131). < you can only get one loan per calendar day, unless you've fully paid back your previous loan before requesting the new one. >> I haven't had a loan today, I just paid back part of one. Yesterday, I already owed 1000+ and got a 650 loan. Switch, you missed my point. I kinda know how the loanshark works by now, and this has <only> happened to me twice before, but I really needed that loan today or I wouldn't have paid any of my original loan back earlier today. I couldn't believe it gave me 650 yesterday when my net worth was 8 cb's and I was already in debt. <sydbarrett: Thank you for the encouragement. I will continue to flog Fred for you and for all enemies of Fred. I shall not fail u> A powerful sith you shall become, Syd-B. Go forth and bring me the moustache of RSF (Right Said Fred, lol). Only then will we be powerful enough to rule Ceegee. Fred's been cheating anyway! He sees who <Switch> places his predictions on in <Golden executive>'s forum, then comes here placing mini wagers on the back of Switch's sith lord visions. No kidding, he's caught on. Lol. |
|
Aug-25-15
 | | FSR: I don't think I've ever set foot in <Golden Executive>'s forum. It would be interesting to know <Switch>'s thoughts, but since I'm ahead of him at the moment it doesn't make much sense to claim that I've used his predictions to get where I am. Presumably you've had access to his thoughts for who knows how long, and look where that knowledge has gotten you. |
