FSR: I care more about which bets have the most favorable odds than I do about the most probable result for each game. If I think that player X has a 1 in 6 chance of winning his next game, and the game has him at 1 in 10, I'm betting on him even though him winning is the <least> likely result.
Aug-25-15  MarkFinan: <SwitchingQuylthulg: Even I wouldn't place any bets based on my predictions in <Golden Executive>'s forum, and I'm me. The Bookie game and the prediction game are two completely different animals.>

How? They're both gambling games with bets/predictions on the exact same chess games, you still want to win even if there's no prize. And for the record.. Fred's slandered me by saying <I> must have copied your homework, when I only clicked on today. Scouts honor.

<Presumably you've had access to his thoughts for who knows how long, and look where that knowledge has gotten you.>

Okay Frederick! The last time I read a sentence eerily similar to that one was on one of my school reports. Lol

Aug-25-15  MarkFinan: Just remembered! The last time I complained about that loanshark were under similar circumstances, and as soon as the games had started and the next rounds wagers were put up, I could get a loan! No different days, nothing to do with my net worth.

Penguincw: Nakamura plays 1.d4. Are you already off to a bad start, or good start? :)

On a side note, R4 bets will have no normal Pick Three; there will be 2 Daily Doubles. However, I'll still have a Pick Three, but it's going to be on <one> player (ex. pick the next 3 games of a player).

Of course, being the sadistic person I am, those who get the first 2 games right will have to wait an extra day to see if their ticket wins or not. >:)

All of that will be decided upon the conclusion of all games in this round (remember that payoffs may be late, applies to all rounds).

  FSR: Cool. Thanks, Penguin!
Aug-25-15  sydbarrett: A forgettable day... But I have strong defenses, so the attacks unleashed upon me today did not take too much away from me

I have absorbed the lessons that I learned from today's battle and I shall return twice as strong for the next one

Aug-26-15  sydbarrett: Bookie... You have Carlsen playing two different matches in the pick three. I think I can figure it out but it's a bit messy.
Aug-26-15  MarkFinan: Is someone going to sort my problem with the loanshark or what??? That's 2 days on the bounce I can't get a loan and I <distinctly> remember a previous bookie/ceegee saying that no matter how many cb's you have/Don't have, you will always be able to play the chessbookie game! It's really starting to piss me off now
Aug-26-15  MarkFinan: Helllloooooo???

SwitchingQuylthulg: <MarkFinan> As I already explained once (with you claiming I missed your point), you can't get a loan right now, no matter how many days you wait; you're not poor enough to qualify for a hard luck loan, and non-hard-luck loans only go up to half your net worth, which your existing loan exceeds.
Aug-26-15  MarkFinan: <you can't get a loan right now,>

And I've already told you I can't!

SwitchingQuylthulg: Do you have an existing loan? Is the Loanshark offering you a loan, or is he expecting you to repay your current loan?

If you have an existing loan of about half your net worth or more, this is expected behavior and exactly what is supposed to happen. If you don't have an existing loan, there's a problem somewhere, but not necessarily with the Loanshark.

Aug-26-15  MarkFinan: Switch.. I've NEVER ever been knocked back for a loan 2 days on the bounce no matter how much $$ I had. I thought something was wrong yesterday and it's the same today. My net worth is roughly 750 and I owe the bookie roughly 1000. I have no funds! I wouldn't have paid him any money back if I knew this was gonna happen.

You mean this: Sinquefield Cup Rd 4-6: Pick Three.

Yeah, I know it's a bit confusing, but my idea was to choose one game from each round from the next 3 rounds. To make it "balanced", I've chosen Carlsen's games twice, So's games twice and Aronian's games twice.

But I probably should've done something like just pick the next 3 games of So or something.

With a net worth of c$750 your max loan is 400 chessbucks or maybe lower; with an existing loan of ~c$1,000, no hope of a loan for you.

And no, this is not a new problem for you... SwitchingQuylthulg chessforum (kibitz #2750)

Not sure how many days you went without a loan then, but the basic situation was the same.

<May-17-12 MarkFinan: <Switch> The chessbookie doesn't appear to like me! Iv'e been Into him twice now, once for 750 and once for 200... I paid the 750 back with Interest, and currently owe him 210, and the games haven't exactly been going my way, so I went back hoping to borrow more as my funds are only now around 100cb's (Net worth around 400)... But he wants the 210 paying back first before I'll get another loan!

On the help page it says he'll lend you more or less as much as you can, so you can always play the game...

So how do I borrow more money??>

<May-17-12 SwitchingQuylthulg: <MarkFinan> It's unlikely he'll be giving you further loans as long as your net worth is 400 - typically max loan ~ half your net worth (for net worths above zero), and half of 400 is 200, so...

Quoting from my tips above, "don't pay [loans] back too early", and this is why - you'd likely be much happier if you still had the c$750 loan, even if it meant paying some extra interest.

[...] things can only get better for you... unless you've also violated tip 2>

Tip 2 was <Never invest all (or even nearly all) your money in long-term bets like tournament or match winners. There will be plenty of other opportunities in the meantime and you'll need some money to exploit those.>

The situation you are currently in is the main reason for tip 2.

Aug-26-15  sydbarrett: Sorry, pick three is not confusing at all. I wrote that before falling asleep. I did not see "different rounds." Was tired and did not read correctly ;-)
Aug-26-15  MarkFinan: Thanks Switch. Tip 2 taken on board. I seriously wish I had 8 cb's again, it's garbage when you want to play the game but can't. There's probably people with -20000 on the leaderboard who can get a loan, it seriously doesn't look like I'll be playing again for a week.

That's me all the time (more like did not type correctly). :D

Aug-26-15  sydbarrett: I sense a disturbance in the Force
I clicked twice on "place bet" on my 240 bet, and it became 480. Your hooligan tricks will not work on me Fred. I will win my 480
Aug-26-15  MarkFinan: I've got to wait until September the 1st before I can place another bet! It's ridiculous.
