  Penguincw: <Mark>

May I ask what long term bets you put cbs on?

Aug-26-15

FSR: Vishy played 1...d5 (also known as "OTHER").
Aug-26-15  MarkFinan: Switch.. So hypothetically if I was 1000 cb's in debt, had a 500 cb net worth, and had 1500 on long term bets.. I can't play the game until those bets pay/don't pay??

Pengerz..The P4 (I like that one BTW) and the winner of this tournament.

Syd-B.. You're the salt of the earth.

Penguincw: Caruana plays 1.d4. Tired of facing the Najdorf I guess. Let me just say I nearly paid off <1...c5>, until I realized I was looking at the Grischuk - Topalov. :p

< Sinquefield Cup Rd 4-6
Pick Three
MINIMUM BET: 2 CURRENT HANDLE: 503 >

Sometimes I feel like I'm lacking something that all the other bookies had that made them so successful during their trials.

< Mark: ... Pengerz..The P4 (I like that one BTW) >

Glade you do. :) It might return for the World Cup.

Aug-26-15  MarkFinan: Pengerz.. Can you please answer the question I just asked Switch, he may not be around.

Penguincw: < MarkFinan: Pengerz.. Can you please answer the question I just asked Switch, he may not be around. >

Uh, sure I'll try. <Switch> I'm pretty sure is around (he seems like he's one of those people who login, does what he needs to do, and leaves just as quick).

< So hypothetically if I was 1000 cb's in debt, had a 500 cb net worth, and had 1500 on long term bets.. I can't play the game until those bets pay/don't pay?? >

(assuming 1000 cbs is your loan)

This doesn't sound quite like a hypothetical example, but I don't think you qualify for a loan in this case. Assuming your net worth was 500 cbs without a loan, in regular cases, he'd offer you 200/300 cbs. However, meaning you don't qualify for a "hard luck loan", <since your net worth is not really low or negative, and you have a current loan>. In other words, you don't get a loan.

But I think I've suggested before, 100 cbs/day, no matter what.

Does your account seriously look like this:

< ACCOUNT: MarkFinan
FUNDS: 0 chessbucks
LOAN: 1000 chessbucks
NET WORTH: 500 chessbucks (max bet: 1000)

Total amount on live bets: 1500 cbs >

I think so, yes, and you wouldn't be the first player in that situation. (You wouldn't be stuck forever - eventually the accumulation of interest would drop your net worth so low you'd qualify for a hard luck loan again. But it would take a while.)

I understand your sentiment that you'd rather have a net worth of c$8 than c$500; maybe some kind of desperation loan could be introduced whereby a player with a low but positive net worth could turn his own net worth into a loan. (In practice this would mean that from funds = 0, loan = 1000, net worth = 500 you'd go to funds = 500, loan = 2000, net worth = 0. A fair deal? No, not remotely. But I'd probably take it in your situation.)

Aug-26-15  MarkFinan: <This doesn't sound quite like a hypothetical example> Maybe not. But it's factual!

Switch.. You're some kinda numbers wizard, that post makes me wish I'd ever actually attended maths class at school, lol. Thanks for the answers though guys, I appreciate it, I'm still not happy about it though but I know it's not your faults. Ceegee should listen to your suggestions Switch.

FSR: C'mon guys, just three more moves to push the game past 40 moves before you agree to a draw.

WannaBe: <FSR> I 'hedge' on that one. 500cb on Under 40 draw, and 500cb on Over 40 draw. =)

WannaBe: And white have played move #41
Aug-26-15  sydbarrett: Yes... I agree Fred... I put my big chip on draw over 40 moves I have 5 big winning tickets today. I anticipate 2 more if Naka can convert his winning position. Oh, Fred, I do eagerly await your promised humiliation
Aug-26-15

FSR: Yes, syd, it is humiliating to only be #2 behind you. Woe is me.
Aug-26-15

FSR: And syd, I too wish Naka would win, but in fact the position is a dead draw. Hasn't anyone ever told you about opposite-colored bishop endings?
Aug-26-15
Premium Chessgames Member
FSR: Curiously, four of the five games (all except So-Aronian) featured opposite-colored bishop middlegames and/or endgames, and all of those games were drawn.

Penguincw: Ah, so nice to see all the games finish in less than 4 hours. About to payoff all bets!

So how did you folks do on the Stock Markets today?

(sorry, whenever someone sees me play this game in real life, I just say I'm on the "Stock Markets" :p )

Aug-26-15  sydbarrett: Don't change the subject Fred... +1500 over you this morning. I won close to 1000 more today. There's a river between us. Like there is between rulers and paupers I wish there was a GM stock market. I'm ready for it
Aug-26-15

FSR: You may have noticed, Syd, that I'm No. 2 in the rankings. If I'm a "pauper," then so is everyone else besides you - including two-time and reigning world champion <Switch>, former world champion <Chnebelgrind>, and of course your sidekick.
Aug-26-15  sydbarrett: I'm new to this battle and its history. First season and I already have written my name in its book. All hail the great Syd, dispenser of justice and spankings. Chessgames, I have defended your land from this ineffectual villain.

Syd, you're a veritable legend in your own mind.

Well said. You're numero uno, coming 2nd is for losers, you may as well be 200th. All about first place.

All hail King Syd-B! Spanking Fred's backside at the chess bookies in his first ever leg. I pledge myself to your teachings. 🙏

You're right, Mark, Syd is a loser. Current standings:

<(1) Chnebelgrind 9,783
(2) sydbarrett 9,244>

Aug-27-15  MarkFinan: You can't include the 2 Sith lords though, Fred! #TeamSyd

FSR: You're a tad inconsistent, Mark. When I was ahead of both Sith lords, that didn't count for anything in your book: being second, I was simply a "loser."
