May-23-06  DCP23: <TIMER> Wow. Impressive perfomance. You might consider betting on Betsson with real money ;)

Me, I'm a patzer where betting is concerned. Today I bet 1008 chessbucks on Russia and am due 1048. Rather a slim profit :(

May-23-06  TIMER: <DCP23> But I went in the other direction from second behind Giantwizard to outright last that got me in the mess.

I am going like a yo-yo: 1000 to 0 to 4500 to 3200 to 4500 to 0 to 1100 to -3200 to +7200, let's hope that there isn't another decline!

May-23-06  DCP23: <TIMER> I see. Going '4500 to 0' on Betsson wouldn't be half as much fun as it is here I'm sure.

Chessgames Bookie: Betting is now open on the top matches of the 4th round of the Chess Olympiad.

ChessBookie Game

May-24-06  percyblakeney: Strange, that leaderboard thing begins with second place at the moment...
May-24-06  TIMER: <percyblakeney> I think that Chessgames Bookie is first with 13,271!
May-24-06  percyblakeney: <TIMER> I see, I missed my name there but after today I hope it will reappear anyway :-)

lostemperor: <TIMER> I found the most impressive when you went from -1400 to 2000 in one or two days. Those were won on normal game bettings, right?
May-24-06  TIMER: <lostemperor> From -3200 I got the pick three right to get to -1400. The next day as well as some other bets I got the pick three right again, but with over ten times more chessbucks to bet with I now jumped to 2000.

Remember I said to you how I kept getting my big bets right when I had almost nothing to bet, if only it came right at the right time? Well that day my request was fulfilled!

lostemperor: Ok, so you got the pick three right again (that figures)! I hope you're not that reckless in real life though It's unhealthy hehehe.
May-24-06  refutor: jeez...chessgames bookie, you shouldn't show how much you've collected so far...makes me want to start my own paramutual ;)

btw, isn't magnus playing for norway? i would've thought that the magnus-nation would have put some cash down for norway against armenia

May-24-06  percyblakeney: Matches get more even but the odds are low for the favourites, so this time 3 of my 4 bets are on unexpected outcomes, and then one big bet on a favourite. Today I'll go something in between -1200 and +1300.
May-24-06  percyblakeney: Biggest bets today: 1000 on India and then 100 on draw in USA-Poland to 8.35 which is a good odds.
May-24-06  TIMER: I lost over a thousand today. I made 2000 on three winning bets, but then put 1000 on England (who continue to not beat lower rated teams) and foolishly I chose Ukraine over Armenia for over 2000 chessbucks on a supposedly safe return!

I hope that I am not in for another major decline!

  Chessgames Bookie: ♖ WHAT'S NEW ♖

- 37th Chess Olympiad Rd 4: Uzbekistan vs Ukraine was a tie match and one lucky winner received over 2000 chessbucks on a 100 chessbuck wager.

- New wagers for tomorrow include 37th Chess Olympiad Rd 5: Russia vs Armenia, 37th Chess Olympiad Rd 5: USA vs Georgia, and the much anticipated 37th Chess Olympiad Rd 5: China vs India.

- Some of the match-ups tomorrow have built-in underdog odds. Specifically Russia vs Armenia shows only two tickets: "Russia" and "Armenia or Tie." And the same is true for "Netherlands vs Uzbekistan" and "Spain vs Sweden." This should make betting on the underdogs a more attractive proposition.

- <jeez...chessgames bookie, you shouldn't show how much you've collected so far...makes me want to start my own paramutual ;)> Actually that figure included 10K that my buddy the Loanshark slipped me. I just paid him back the 10K. Now my chessbucks status displayed is pure profit and nothing else. The system has been programmed so that I will not show up in the leaderboard lists. You are right, we may disable this feature in the near future, as it may prove to be depressing to the bettors to see how much the house is taking in.

May-24-06  blingice: There isn't much worth betting on today. It's all just complete blowouts.
May-24-06  technical draw: <Chessgames Bookie> How did you get the loanshark to give you $10,000? I got good credit and can only get $100 at a time. Can I mention your name next time I need a loan? Thanks.
May-25-06  naamloos: The Netherlands just tied, so I can quit Chessbookie for the rest of this leg. I'm down to -2000.
May-25-06  percyblakeney: I have only one thing to say after today: God bless Armenia :-)
May-25-06  DCP23: I'm completely ruined. Not only have I staked everything I had on Russia winning, the devious Loanshark decided to upgrade my credit rating today, so I staked all that too... What do I do now?!?
May-25-06  you vs yourself: <percyblakeney> lol

<naamloos> I give up too. With little money to gain because of disproportionate odds, loanshark lending just $100/day and leaders with $10000+, it's not worth fighting for the top 10 anymore.

WannaBe: Go into hiding, I heard Osama is looking for chess playing partner. =)
May-25-06  technical draw: I picked up 2256 chessbucks with all the ties today. Now I can get the loanshark off my back and get back into contention.
May-25-06  TIMER: I was right: I am in for another major decline! I would never have expected all three of Netherlands, India, and Ukraine to fail to win. I was aiming for 11000 today with the safety of spreading those three big bets. My very small bets on tie in Russia match and USA win hardly compensate.

I am good at the predictions overall (better in individual games), but am not used to betting (would never do it in real life), and rush too much to get up in this race, leading me to lose everything even if I have something like an 80% success rate average. I think that I will give this up (I should have done so after I had recovered from last place to 7253, but I was only about seventh so worried about dropping out of the top ten by the end) as it takes me too much time. There are too many events to bet on every single day!

I might play this in the future, but perhaps more occassionally and not like a race.

May-25-06  iron maiden: This morning I thought Uzbekistan and Armenia were the wisest tickets of the day, and I was probably right. But I think I'd be making more money if I didn't keep betting against the USA so often, to ensure that even if my country loses I'll get some chessbucks to make up for it.
