  chessgames.com: <centralfiles: <Now I too need a refund...>>

Here's an update on the situation. A bug was found this leg (maybe a previous leg, but it's happened twice now) which apparently allows twin-tickets to be created. When this happens you end up paying for both of them, and if you lose, you lose twice as much, and if you win, you win twice as much.

For this reason whether or not we issue a refund has to depend on whether or not your request was before or after the result was known. If we behaved differently, it would be possible for players to try to intentionally create this bug and then only complain if they lose. Of course nobody is accusing you of such deception but it has to be this way as a policy matter until we fix this race-condition bug.

A quick check of the posting time and it's clear that central files requested a refund while the bet was still live. Ergo I will issue a refund. Note that if Wei won (and centrafile's bet won) I would be forced to remove money from his account.

I apologize for this glitch and will look into a method to clamp down on this.

Before or after bet closing time would be better, I think; during a game you can tell which results look likely, and request a refund only if it's advantageous. (I'm not saying you shouldn't refund <centralfiles>'s bet; he did not get any unfair advantage here. But allowing such requests during games is just as open to abuse as allowing them after the game.)

Of course, fixing the bug entirely would be better still :)

Chessgames Bookie: In the bet with the Chinese vs. the Amereicans to see who would have more wins ended in a 6-6 tie.

Chinese:

Ding - 4 wins
Wei - 1 win
Hou -1 win
-----------
6 wins

**********

Americans:

Caruana - 5 wins
So - 1 win
-----------
6 wins

Feb-02-16  MarkFinan: I put 10 and 30 on the Ragger MVL game yesterday, not 100 and 300! I wouldn't put 300 on Carlsen with the black pieces. And that 150 still hasn't been added either.

If you check my bets from yesterday you'll see I put small amounts on each player to win, because the odds were good as everyone else had either bet on a draw or not at all. The highest amount of cb's I placed yesterday were 100 cb's on the opening move. Will you look into this for me please?

Feb-02-16  centralfiles: Unfortunately that's going to be hard to prove mark...
Feb-02-16  MarkFinan: Well I wouldn't lie. I proved before that I had 2 bets on the same wager and I'm yet to get those cb's back.
Feb-02-16  centralfiles: It's not a question of personally believing that was your intention. Unless it was clearly a bug and the system has a record of your true bet amount there's no way to just start refunding cbs based on bug complaints.

<MarkFinan> you will have to contact <chessgames> Dan Freeman. There is nothing I can do with this. I did the first one as a courtesy.

Feb-02-16  MarkFinan: Chessbookie.. Did he add the 150 cb's the 1st time round? I don't think he did. And I just noticed that my net worth was back at 10500 and now it's back to 10100 again. I only bet 40 cb's in total yet for some reason you added a 0 to that. I aren't going to put 300 on a player with the black pieces given that I've never done it before and I knew there was a 90% chance of the game being drawn. I placed those "little bets" just in case, just like I did on the other games yesterday. I only put tiny amounts on those games! And unless it's been the end of the leg I've <never> put that amount on a player with the black pieces. Never.

I'll email Daniel but I doubt he'll do me any favours. And he didn't put the cb's back last time either.

chessgames.com: Now now Mark, you know I'd walk the extra mile for you.

I thought I did refund your extra ticket but I thought it was for 100 cb, so perhaps I'm thinking of centralfiles.

Please let me know the bet that it was on and I'll look it up.

<I put 10 and 30 on the Ragger MVL game yesterday, not 100 and 300!> I'm not sure what to say about that. The logs show 100 and 300. If it's any consolation, you would have gotten paid on the larger amount had they have won.

Chessgames Bookie: With the Tradewise 2016 Open now over I will try to put up a few games from the Moscow Open as soon as the Round 7 pairings become available. Some of the players there may not be household names but they are very strong players none the less.

Chessgames Bookie: The Tradewise 2016 Masters Open was won by Hikaru Nakamura. Hikaru Nakamura defeats Maxime Vachier-Lagrave in a play off with the black pieces in the final Armageddon game - very exciting!

Any match or tournament is becoming an option <WannaBe>. The pickens' for top tier chess are a little slim right now. I'm gonna try my best to keep games on the betting board.

Thanks <Chnebelgrind> that is definitely an option. Hopefully they give enough notice with the pairings. We will have to wait & see.

FSR: This is hilarious. I accidentally bet 100 CBs on Gawain Jones to win. I had meant to bet on a draw; I figured that the odds of Jones winning as Black against Yu Yangyi were infinitesimal. So of course Jones did win and I pocketed 1298 CBs! My best bet by far of the championship leg thus far.
Feb-05-16  MarkFinan: Well done Frederick.

<chessgames.com: Now now Mark, you know I'd walk the extra mile for you.>

I highly doubt that, lol.

<I thought I did refund your extra ticket but I thought it was for 100 cb, so perhaps I'm thinking of centralfiles.>

You're thinking of centraflies.

<Please let me know the bet that it was on and I'll look it up.>

I posted it in this forum a few weeks ago, I can't remember the players. The bookie said he'd contacted you about it so I thought you already knew.

No consolation at all, lol. If it happens again I'm kicking up a fuss though. I've lost a total of 550 due to someone else messing up, not me.
