Chessgames Bookie: A new 'Pick the Winner' bet has been added for the Women’s World Chess Championship Match 2016 being held in Lviv, Ukraine between March 1st to March 18th. Mariya Muzychuk will face off against Yifan Hou in a best of ten match. I am unable to put up a Round 1 game at this time because the colors will not be drawn until the Opening Ceremony takes place. For more info see: http://lviv2016.fide.com/

WannaBe: Just as FYI, Lviv is 10 hours ahead of Pacific, 7 hours ahead of Eastern (cg.com server) time.

All games (include tie-break) are scheduled for 1500 Lviv, or 5AM Pacific, 8AM Eastern.

Now, on March 13th, US will spring ahead an hour, but Ukraine will not change their clock until 27th.

I am <WannaBe>, and I approved this message.

Annie K.: <Bookie> Hi - there is an external link in your top menu, that I can't remember what I called at the moment, possibly TimezoneConverter. :)

Around the time of DST changes, it's particularly useful to refer to it for every single round of betting, until you know you have passed the upcoming bumps in the road. ;)

Chessgames Bookie: Yes, thanks for that <Annie K.>! It is called the 'Timezone Converter' & I will use it for sure. :)

  Annie K.: Great! :)

Incidentally, if you have any favorite sites that you refer to often, that are not in the top menu, feel free to add them. They can only help other Bookies.

Chessgames Bookie: I have come to find out that Lucas van Foreest who is playing in the Batavia tournament has become ill with the flu & was unable to play. This gave GM Lars Schandorff a win in Round 7. Their game was one of those listed in the pick three for Round 7. The organizers of the Batavia tournament are counting this as a win for Schandorff. I will count this game as a white win for the pick three also. I also have Lucas van Foreest - Soors listed as one of the games for Round 8. I was unable to delete this game before a bet was placed on it. If Lucas van Foreest is still unable to play in Round 8 I will refund all bets on the Lucas van Foreest - Soors game in Round 8. I am sorry for this inconvenience but these things do happen. Get well soon Lucas van Foreest. Here is the report from the official Batavia website: http://batavia1920.nl/chess/

<14:15 Many people have caught the flu recently and unfortunately Lucas van Foreest is also forced to stay in bed today. That means an automatic point for Lars Schandorff. The game counts for the tournament standings, but not for rating. Get well soon Lucas!>

  Annie K.: Good call. :)

Maybe you could add a note of explanation to the bet description itself too.

Yes that is a good idea <Annie K.>. I will put an 'addendum' so to speak along with the Lucas van Foreest - Soors Round 8 game.

Chessgames Bookie: Thanks <moronovich>. I saw that but it doesn't say for sure who drew what colors. That's what I need to see. I don't want to list the game incorrectly.

SwitchingQuylthulg: chess-news.ru specifically says that Muzychuk will have White in game 1 (and also games 3, 6, 8 and 10): http://chess-news.ru/node/21083

Mind you, I think I went wrong some time in the past following early info from chess-news.ru...

Chessgames Bookie: Thanks <Switch>. Well that's two sources that say Mariya has the white pieces. Why can't they just say who won the draw for the white pieces. I'll never understand, it's like they are guarding a well kept secret or something. If I don't see anything shortly(very shortly) I will go with Muzychuk - Hou. I want everyone to have enough time to place their bets.

Chessgames Bookie: Ok everyone is probably sleeping in the Ukraine so I don't think anymore news is forthcoming from there until tomorrow. I have listed the Round 1 Women's World Championship game as Muzychuk - Hou. Place your bets!

Chessgames Bookie: From the official website:

<'Mariya Muzychuk chooses white pieces in the first game'

"The drawing of the color of the first game was the important moment of the ceremony. The Chief Arbiter of the Match Carol Jarecki offered the players to clarify the order of who can choose the color first. Hou Yifan choose the number one in envelop and that meant she was the first one to choose a color from two souvenir Easter eggs, which hided black and white pieces inside. Hou Yifan got a black piece – this means that the World Champion Maria Muzychuk will have white pieces in the first game.">
