| Mar-28-16 | | WinKing: Karpos Open 2016: http://chess-results.com/tnr205304.... This is a partial list of who will be playing. There are always late entries to Open tournaments though. Some strong 2600's in there. GM Milos Perunovic(2620) just finished in a 6 way tie(7.5/9) for first at the Grenke Open. I'm keeping an eye on this one. |

| Mar-29-16 | | centralfiles: bookie should get automatic entry into championship leg |
|
Mar-31-16
 | | Chessgames Bookie: That would be nice <centralfiles>. I enjoy doing this though. :) |

Mar-31-16
 | | Chessgames Bookie: Ok, I think I have found something we can work with here. The Polish Championship 2016 runs from March 30th - April 7th. Here are the players: Polish Championship 2016
Radosław Wojtaszek (2721)
Jan-Krzysztof Duda (2667)
Kacper Piorun (2657)
Dariusz Świercz (2655)
Mateusz Bartel (2634)
Grzegorz Gajewski (2627)
Jacek Tomczak (2605)
Kamil Dragun (2597)
Marcel Kanarek (2535)
Maciej Klekowski (2432)
Not a bad line up 8 GM's & 2 IM's! I will be posting some games from this Championship. Cross your fingers & hope I translated the Polish correctly & have the starting times right for these games. I still have my eye on the Karpos Open but have not seen any Round postings yet for that event. |

 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: <Bookie> You need to update the Daily Double bet description... I don't think Sargissian, Motylev or Iljiushenok are playing :) |

 | | Chessgames Bookie: Thanks <Switch>. Correction made. |

Apr-01-16
 | | Chessgames Bookie: The Karpos Open from Macedonia has started but the match ups for the early rounds are very lopsided as far as the rating goes. I will post some games from this Open when the rating gap closes a little. Karpos Open:http://chess-results.com/tnr205304.... |
|
Apr-05-16
 | | FSR: Shocking that Gajewski ended up losing against Tomczak. He had been a pawn up in the ending. http://www.chessbomb.com/arena/2016... Not that I'm complaining, mind you. |
|
Apr-05-16
 | | Chessgames Bookie: I'm no expert <FSR> but I think white should have clipped black's bishop off the board at move 42(42.Nxf5). Not sure if white can win the ending but he sure can't lose. I was surprised Gajewski lost that game also. |
|
Apr-05-16
 | | FSR: <Bookie> Hindsight is always 20/20 and all that. I daresay that at that point in the game it hadn't entered Gajewski's head that he could possibly lose. |
|
Apr-06-16
 | | Chessgames Bookie: Games have been posted for the final Round 9** of the Polish Open & the final Round 9** of the Karpos Open. (**Please note the final Round 9 of the Polish Open starts 5 hrs. earlier than previous rounds 10:00 CEST - 04:00 EST) Make sure to place your bets early! (**Please note the final Round 9 starts 8 hrs. earlier than previous rounds 09:30 CEST - 03:30 EST) Make sure to place your bets early! Both of these events are starting earlier than previous rounds because of the awards ceremonies that will follow the 9th & final round. |

Apr-06-16
 | | Chessgames Bookie: I have listed the top three games for the final 9th Round of the Karpos Open: http://chess-results.com/tnr205304.... Svetushkin(7/8) - Georgiev(6.5/8)
Mastrovasilis(6.5/8) - Markus(6.5/8)
Saric(6.5/8) - Dvirnyy(6.5/8)
The winner(s) of the Karpos Open will come from this group. Hopefully we get some good hard fought games. |

 | | Chessgames Bookie: I have put up a bet for our next event the Thai Open. Perhaps better known as 'The 16th Bangkok Chess Club Open 2016'. Pick who you think will win this event. Place your bets! Pick the winner - 16th Bangkok Chess Club Open 2016

|
Apr-07-16
 | | Chessgames Bookie: I give GM Georgiev credit for playing for a win with the black pieces against
Svetushkin in the Karpos Open. The others that were in contention(Mastrovasilis-Markus & Saric- Dvirnyy) wimped out taking 9 & 5 move draws respectively. I hope the federation docks them 30% of their prize money for cowardice. That's how I feel about it. Nuff said! |

Apr-07-16
 | | Chessgames Bookie: Ok I have just finished discussing how we will finish the Championship Leg with
<chessgames>. The leg will end with the Norway Chess 2016 tournament on April
29th. We have a busy final 3 weeks coming up. Here is what I have planned: <Thai Open: April 10th - April 17th USA Championship: April 13th - April 29th (Nakamura, Caruana, So...) Norway Chess: April 16th - April 29th (Carlsen, Kramnik, Aronian, Giri, Topalov...) Chinese Championship: April 17th 28th (Many 2700+ players) Women's Fide: April 19th - May 3 (Top women in the world)> The Thai Open, USA Championship, & Norway Chess I hope to cover extensively. I am still unsure about the Chinese Championship as I have not seen any details posted about it *yet*. The Women's FIDE Grand Prix runs into the month of May so I will not be able to cover all of that.
Still, I hope to work in some games from both the Chinese Championship & the Women's FIDE Grand Prix. The action will be fast & furious. Let the
'April Madness' begin!
Good Luck to all! |

 | | Penguincw: <Bookie>, for Pick the winner - Norway Chess 2016 , Karjakin will not be playing , so remove that line somehow? |
|
| Apr-08-16 | | WinKing: <Penguincw: <Bookie>, for Pick the winner - Norway Chess 2016 , Karjakin will not be playing , so remove that line somehow?> Who is the replacement <Penguincw>? |
|
Apr-08-16
 | | Penguincw: <WinKing>
I'm not sure, but I just found this post saying Li Chao is taking over for Karjakin: Sergey Karjakin (kibitz #2659). Luckily there's no money on that line yet. |
|
| Apr-08-16 | | WinKing: Thanks <Penguincw> I put Li Chao in for Karjakin. What happened to Karjakin? This is kind of late for 'musical chairs' to be taking place in a tournament of this caliber. |
|
Apr-08-16
 | | Penguincw: <WinKing: ... What happened to Karjakin? > He withdrew from the tournament (might have to do with the future WCC match). Check out the Karjakin page for more info. It would've been nice if he played though. He's won Norway both times he's played. |
|
| Apr-08-16 | | WinKing: Here it is:
https://sakk.chess.com/news/karjaki... |
|
| Apr-08-16 | | WinKing: I would think the Norway organizers are a little upset by this move <Penguincw>. Everyone was looking forward to the Carlsen-Karjakin showdown. Thanks again for the heads-up! You can't relax for 5 min. in this game. That was definitely unexpected. |
|
| Apr-08-16 | | WinKing: Now let's just hope Li Chao shows up. ;) |
