The next leg will begin around Christmas Eve; specifics coming soon.

Dec-18-17  truepacifism: Thank you. Best of wishes to all the other players and to all who take the time to keep this going over the years.

Chessgames Bookie: Congratulations to all qualifiers and especially first-time winner <truepacifism>, who took advantage of the top grandmasters' truly pacifistic play in brilliant fashion! <Kynas> also had an excellent leg and kept the fight for the top spot interesting to the end.

The final standings of the leg have been archived for posterity and can be found at http://www.chessgames.com/chessbook....

Thanks everyone! It's nice to leave the game on a positive note.

Anyone interested in keeping the ChessBookie Game going should consider volunteering to be Bookie. <Annie K.> will return as Bookie for the Winter Leg (so do try to get along with her); but she's not going to keep the game alive all by herself.

Good luck for the Championship Leg everybody, and have fun!

Annie K.: Congratulations to the winner, the runner-ups and everybody who had a good time! :)

And thanks very much, <Switch>, for running the leg and the speech. ;)

That's straight talk, folks - I'm not going to be taking up the slack more than twice a year, so either we get some new volunteers stepping up to the plate, or the Bookie will just start to have off seasons... and if that happens too many times, the administration may just decide that the game is not popular enough to keep going, and call it off for good.

So when we ask for volunteers, that's not some empty formality, or a meaningless tradition, or "for somebody else". It's for <YOU>, and if <YOU> want to keep enjoying this game, better consider taking a turn seriously.

The Championship Leg will start with the Blitz and Rapid World Championships, around the 24th or so, as <cg> said. :)

Good luck to everybody, as statistics permit (which they don't, but they do allow you to have fun anyway). ;p
