Dec-19-17  WinKing: Firstly special thanks to <SwitchingQuylthulg> without who's hard work none of this would have been possible.

Secondly congratulations to <truepacifism> on winning the Fall Leg of the ChessBookie game. Good battle at the end between <tp> & <Kynas>. Also congratulations to the other 9 who qualified for top honors in the Championship Leg.

Dec-19-17  WinKing: I will take the Spring Leg as ChessBookie if that is ok with you <Annie K.>.

We have three active ChessBookies right now by my count. We need two more for this game to be successful. Five bookies would make this game run smoothly without putting strain on any one individual. Just my two cents. Volunteers welcome!

Annie K.: <WinKing> that's fine with me, and then some! :) Unfortunately, we can't rely on <Switch> to keep running the Bookie next year, so we absolutely need at least one more volunteer...
Dec-23-17  jingohanson: I might be able to help. I love chess bookie, though not very good at it. This is the first time I've noticed the forum. I don't know Howe to contact Annie K directly. Need details on expectations. Thanks

Annie K.: <jingohanson> thanks for the response! :)

At the moment, I'm looking for somebody to take the 2018 Fall Leg (October to December). If you think you can make time for it for those three months, you can contact <chessgames> at chess@chessgames.com.

You can also ask me anything here or at my forum (just click on my avatar to get there).

chessgames.com: The 2018 Chessbookie Championship begins any day (hour?) now! The 30 qualificants who receive 10K chessbucks to start are:

Arconax
Barok Espinosa
beatgiant
Boomie
brankat
centralfiles
Count Wedgemore
eternaloptimist
fivealpha
francis2017
FSR (x3)
guccigucci
HowDoesTheHorsieMove
kurtrichards
Kynas (x2)
Lost Rook
Marmot PFL
moronovich (x2)
Phony Benoni

Stonehenge
SwitchingQuylthulg
sydbarrett (x3)
technical draw
TITIKIZA
Tomlinsky
Touch of Knight (x3)
WinKing
wordfunph (x2)
zgcntryk

They should all have 10,000 chessbucks in their account at this time.

(I listed put the number of times they qualified in the list above, if they qualified more than once—but nobody gets more than 10K to start.) If I missed somebody please bring it to my attention immediately!

If your name is not on that list that means you didn't finish in the top-10 positions during the last 4 legs. Don't give up hope, people have done miraculous things with only 1000 chessbucks in the previous years!

♔ THE PRIZES ♔

First place: A $75 gift certificate, a 1 year premium membership to Chessgames.com, and immortality in our ChessBookie Hall of Fame.

Second Place; A $25 gift certificate, a 1 year premium membership.

Third place: A 1-year premium membership.

Places 3-10: A 4-month trial membership as well as automatic inclusion in next year's ChessBookie! championship.

Many thanks to User: Annie K. for taking up the reins for the Championship Leg.

Thanks for playing, and good luck.

Phony Benoni: If it's possible, I would like my spot to go to the next person in line. I don't intend to participate and have never taken this seriously, earning my spot only by a few lucky random bets.

If this can't be changed ... well, maybe not betting at all will turn out to be a winning strategy.

Have you ever seen a sitcom? Gambling intentionally to lose is a certain recipe for success.

Back in the Winter 2011 Leg, <edsauced> was away for most, if not the entire Championship leg. He ended up finishing in 10th place, with 10,000 cbs. He got the 1 year premium membership, and qualified for the following Championship leg.

And well, the following Championship Leg, 10th place finished with 11,145 cbs, a profit of 1,145 cbs. He never qualified again, and not much has been heard from him since.

I believe that was the only time such an incident occurred, and note with the (presumed) addition of Pay Day, 10,000 cbs is very unlikely to be suffice, but you never know. You do you.

But if you would like to throw away your money, be our guest. If you need ideas on what to throw your cbs on, don't hesitate to contact me. ;)

Penguincw: On a side note, Merry Christmas to all the chessbookie players. Good luck all in this upcoming Championship leg.
Dec-27-17  sydbarrett: Omg the championship leg started earlier than I thought! I admit I gave up a month ago because the hole I dug was so deep it made me miserable, and I avoided this site for weeks in shame. What a present to have a new leg to play so early. I shall aim to redeem myself for sureee. I missed the rapid bets oh wells Hey congrats pacifism!!!
Dec-27-17  Boomie: Is there any way to get the complete list of players in the blitz tourney? If we bet on OTHER, who are we backing? Considering that Artemiev is number 2 in the live blitz ratings, should he be grouped with the OTHERS?
Dec-27-17
Premium Chessgames Member
Annie K.: The complete list of players for the <Rapid> tourney is most easily seen at Chess-Results: http://chess-results.com/tnr323006....

The complete list of players for the <Blitz> tourney is most easily seen by asking Agon for it. Good luck with that. :p

The lines I opened for the Blitz winner bet are based on the now available actual Rapid list, and the assumption that it would make little sense for a player to travel all the way to Riyadh only to play in just one of the two events.

If you believe somebody really strong at blitz has been lumped in with the OTHER option, my recommendation is to put a large bet on the OTHER option, and otherwise keep very quiet. ;)

Annie K.: Ah. I see the organizers have changed their minds about tiebreaks. They have now decided to have them after all... in that case, we will also respect them.

FSR: Wow, C$1597 payoff on a C$5 bet on Anand. Insane.
Dec-28-17  sydbarrett: Fred I wasn't even aware that betting started. I woulda had at LEAST half your jackpot bud.

Annie K.: Rumors about the end of the Championship Leg, much like the ones about the end of Anand's career, are somewhat premature... ;)

User <chnebelgrind> once became champ, starting out with only 1.000 bucks. So it is possible, but of course much more difficult. BTW the "invitees" are players who have earned their spot by qualification.
