Dec-31-17  Boomie: <BTW the "invitees" are players who have earned their spot by qualification.>

<I couldn't think of the right single word at the time.>

I humbly suggest the word "elite".

Dec-31-17  technical draw: <offramp> <What would happen if, by some Jeopardy-like magic, a non-invitee with his measly $1,000 outscored the invitees with their mega-bucks?>

I did it once. I came in third starting with the "measly" $1,000.

offramp: <technical draw>, well done! I hope someone does it this year with their measly $1,000.

I'd like to wish a non-measly New Year to everyone!

Penguincw: Pay Day should make it easier for us non-qualifiers to finish in the top 10, but of course, the players who probably <could> pull off such a feat, they're probably all starting with 10,000 cbs.

But anything can happen.

WannaBe: Actually, a 'fun' bet/proposition is who will come in last. (Very similar to Triple Clown Award, in a way...)

The usual <Winner> bet is always fun, but when you have 14 players, a 'Last Place' wager offer can add some spice.

In case of tie, all 'winning' tickets will pay, unless bookie want to do tie breaks with number of wins, wins with black, head-to-head, etc...

Just an idea, probably very silly idea. =))

Annie K.: I will never put up "last place" type bets, because I don't support being mean to chessplayers. Nobody in last place wants to have attention directed at them. Please just celebrate the winners, and don't try to have fun at the expense of the lowest finishers - there would be no winners without them, so they are already paying enough.
Jan-10-18  diceman: <WannaBe:

How did you hear I was invited to the
next Sinquefield Cup?

Jan-12-18  WinKing: Round 1

Giri - Hou
Kramnik - Wei
Svidler - Adhiban
Carlsen - Caruana
Jones - Karjakin
Anand - Matlakov
So - Mamedyarov

  Annie K.: <WinKing> thanks :)
Jan-13-18  technical draw: Someone is putting heavy money on all propositions. I don't think that's a winning strategy.

Annie K.: We are experimenting with a new automatic seeding function. I think it's a very good innovation for the multi-option bets (openings, Pick-3s, etc.) but I don't think I'm going to like it for the regular bets, at least not automatically (as an option, especially when time is short, possibly). But let's give it a chance for a while. For the statistics fans, this will probably mean another cash pool inflation. ;)
Jan-15-18  sydbarrett: I took a dive early on for fun, boys. Now I'm back to the surface. And fun-time's over.
Jan-16-18  sydbarrett: Sorry that was sexist of me when I said "boys." I was unaware when I wrote that.
Jan-19-18  technical draw: <Barok Espinosa> is always a contender but he hasn't posted since 2013. probably spends his time planning how to win.

FSR: Crap. Looks like Mamedyarov may scam a draw. There goes $C938.
Jan-19-18

FSR: Wow, he actually won, which is better for me than a draw because I make a few chessbucks off it.

Penguincw: Hmm, after my net worth has gone up and down, I currently sit at exactly 1000 cbs. I won't sit here for long, but I see the "Chessbookie" logo has disappeared from my profile, but I still appear on the standings. I assume this is what's supposed to happen?
Jan-21-18  sydbarrett: I'm taking risks and having fun

FSR: Wow. <Phony Benoni>, who didn't even want his 10,000 chessbucks, has leapfrogged into first!

Penguincw: < td: <Barok Espinosa> is always a contender but he hasn't posted since 2013. probably spends his time planning how to win. >

Must still be celebrating all his wins. There are a lot of them, so they can take time...

Phony Benoni: <FSR> My chess rating occasionally rose over 2100, only to plunge immediately because I would try to play like a 2100 player instead of my usual style -- closing my eyes and hoping for the best.

I suspect this will work out much the same. way.

FSR: Giri wins, all other games drawn.
Jan-24-18  WinKing: Would it be possible <Annie K.> to get a bet for the Vidit-Korobov game in the Tata Steel Challengers section? That game might decide who wins the Challengers section. That game is coming up in the next Round 11.
