I think I bet like maybe 25 cbs, lost most of them, and dropped 5 places. Also in a day.

Jul-07-20  morfishine: I'm going down the tubes at the rate of 40 chessbucks per day

Chessgames Bookie: Apparently the 0-0 bet was cancelled erroneously by a bad click. I'm told that it cannot be reversed. I believe that the "6" bettors had their bets refunded, and all the rest of us lost our money. This is not only a gross disservice to the winners, but to us all. My apologies to everyone.

Our options seem to be: 1) take a deep breath and move along; 2) Find another bookie and I'll step down as manifestly incompetent.

Speaking as a bettor who lost 107 chessbucks in the incident, I vote to take a deep breath and move along.

My reasons: (a) I believe you are generally doing a great job, (b) it will be hard to recruit another good bookie, (c) there always have been and always will be various little glitches and we all have to factor it in while doing our risk assessments, (d) this game is really only for fun, so you shouldn't commit hara-kiri over this one stumble in your early training period.

Firstly, given the situation, I do believe you have made the best call.

Secondly, and more importantly, everyone makes mistakes. Please do keep your head up high, and continue doing this. We all really appreciate all your invaluable efforts to keep this game continuing. We believe in you, and are very grateful.

I say this as I ran the bookie game once back in 2015. I had my fair share of troubles too, from typos in player names, putting the wrong player matchups, wrong payouts, and even bets that I could not double check. I know, I know...

But I corrected all of those mistakes to the best of my ability, and moved on, and I think it worked out fine in the end.

I do believe everything will be great in the end for you, so please do keep it going.

Chessgames Bookie: Thanks so much for the kind words, folks. You've lifted my spirits and I'll try hard to continue to deserve your confidence. What a fine community!

Now... start rubbing your lucky amulet because the betting is about to resume. Does anyone see a major event before the July 21 Legends?

Jul-09-20  morfishine: <Chessgames Bookie> I think you are doing a great job. IIf I would suggest anything, maybe more pick-two and pick-three bets, thats about it

  moronovich: I´ll also,as <morfishine>,sugest a more frequent double or Pick 3.

Also to give every one a fair chance to catch up with the field.

Jul-11-20  morfishine: Hello <Chessgames Bookie> a July 10 bet needs to be cleared, thank you
Jul-30-20  morfishine: morfishine: Hello <Chessgames Bookie> a July 29 bet needs to be cleared, thank you
Jul-30-20  mike1: Biel finished yesterday
Aug-01-20  morfishine: Hello <ChessBookie> Maybe raise the maximum bet limit, not drastically, but from 300 to maybe 1,000
Aug-06-20  morfishine: Hello <ChessBookie> Any bets from the Olympiad to tide us over?
Aug-17-20  wallytherhino: I: Initial Comment

I am extremely excited about this season win or lose.

II: Current State of the Game

The pillars of liquidity me and morfishine are doing our best to keep some initial money in the pot. Congratulations on moronovich for the current top spot. I would be below morfishine if not for Carlsen and Nakamura being tied 2-2 in their current set.

III: General Observations

The one observation I have, and this observation is also true as of 5 years ago. The betting lines with Carlsen (even multiple selection group bets) are oftentimes so weighted in his favor the best chess bookie gamblers know to put an insurance bet on other people (and/or the field).

IV: Chessbookie Admins

Player names are always going to be hard for bookies especially with the eastern European, middle easter,n, and other romanized first and last names. The up and coming players oftentimes do not have an agreed-upon romanization of their name. When in doubt is does not hurt to put their current ratings, and/or specific piece of information.

Chessgames Bookie: Thanks for you input, Wally.

I don't understand what to do diferently with regard to Carlsen bets.

What a match!!!

Chessgames Bookie: The biggest problem, in my view, is the small number of players. What can we do to get more bettors? cheerio
Aug-18-20  morfishine: <wallytherhino> Very Funny, made my day!
Aug-18-20  wallytherhino: <Chessgames Bookie> "I don't understand what to do differently with regard to Carlsen bets."

Response:

You do not have to do anything different. Carlsen is a generational talent. Carlsen is always going to be polarizing. He was polarizing even when he wrestled a draw away from Kasparov as a young boy.

Aug-19-20  jvb.oziana: Sorry to butt in here, <Bookie> i think a way to get more players would be to start the leg with 1,500 or 2,000 instead of 1,000 bucks. Its going to offer more leeway if you lose some early bets. I think one problem is bettors get discouraged early in the leg. I know we all get a 2nd 1.000 bonus midway through and to be honest i expected more people to start betting when that bonus came in but i'm not really sure we saw that this leg. Maybe it would be better to give the bonus upfront at the start.

  moronovich: I support <jvb ocianas> idea.
Aug-20-20  jith1207: I've crossed the initial bridge of disappointment.

Yesterday I had 997 chess bucks, now Zero.

I've bet my house on this BIG day.

I'm a sporadic bettor, I recommend User: Chessgames Bookie posting once in a while in kibitzer's Cafe or in more importantly puzzle of the day & GOTD pages, on big days like this.

Nothing like a bit of advertisement during some major tournaments to get new users feel welcome to try out this bookie game. Most new users or even regulars just don't get interested until they check out once and try for themselves, and that happens either if someone they know here recommends or they get to see people talking about it.

You've gotta publicize some important dates and interesting bets (I think <Penguincw> used to do a good job at that), few people at a time will surely take a look and some of them may get interested in this harmless game. Also, when an official website user like User: Chessgames Bookie comments, people take notice. Use that privilege!

Aug-20-20  jvb.oziana: Thank you <moro> good luck today.

Hi <jingohansen> I want to let you know that i'll retire this account after today. Just in case i finish in the top six, I'd like to play the championship leg under a new handle. I hope this is okay with you and the powers that be. Thank you.

And congratulations on a successful first leg.

And a special gratitude to our dear bookie <jingohanson> who has made the whole event possible ! Hope you enjoyed it as well and perhaps you will make many people happy,by doing one more leg !?
