Jul-31-06  brankat: <Chessgames Bookie> Regarding the Politiken Cup that finished yesterday.

I had a total of 3 tickets(bets). One of them was a $50.00 bet on a winner V.Malakhatko at the ods of 46 : 1. Why is my payout $280.00? At 46:1 it should be $2,300. I have not cashed the ticket yet. Thank You.

Jul-31-06  whatthefat: <Chessgames Bookie> I have the same issue as <brankat>, on both the Hector and Malakhatko tickets from the Politiken Cup. Each time, the winnings are out by a factor of 10.

Chessgames Bookie: The Politiken Cup had a three way tie for first place. All of the odds shown are the odds you would get paid if only one person wins.

From ChessBookie Game Help Page <If there are two or more winning choices in an event (e.g. a tie for first place), all tickets for any winning player will be paid off. The total winning pool is split evenly among all winning players then those smaller pools are distributed to the winners normally. When this happens, the odds payed will be substantially worse than the final posted odds.>

If you're curious how the math works, it's like this: when there is more than one winner, like in this case where we have three, we take that pool of money from all the losing tickets, deduct the juice, and split what remains evenly three ways. Then those three piles of cash get then split up among those who bet on the three winners, proportional to the size of their bets. In this way, everybody's odds get worse, but the fantastic longshots still remain longshots, and the tickets with bad odds to begin with even get worse.

<Biel, 10th round (August 3rd)>:

Aug-02-06  Manequinho: Mr. Bookie, why is there no betting on Biel's Ladies games?

Chessgames Bookie: All Biel bets have been paid off. Congratulations to those who won.

<Mr. Bookie, why is there no betting on Biel's Ladies games?> There was, we had Biel: Winner (Ladies) as well as Biel: Double Pick Men+Ladies. I suppose you want to know why there wasn't round-by-round betting on the Ladies' games? Well, nobody asked for it, and with two other major tournaments going on we have to draw the line somewhere. You should have spoken up earlier; if enough people had asked for that we would have put them up.

Chessgames Bookie: With all the draws at Dortmund this year, this seems like a fun bet to play -- Dortmund Rd 6: How Many Draws?
Aug-03-06  soughzin: Might get confusing with the opening bet with Kramnick playing white. What happens when it goes reti to english to QG to QID lol.
Aug-03-06  fersonatu: <TIMER> I watched you tank. Frankly I was amazed you risked so much so fast. You are clearly not the type to take a quick draw. (Let me guess ... not a Kramnik fan)
Aug-03-06  fersonatu: <Chessgames Bookie> Will there be betting on the US Open? Just for the fun of it I would like to place a small wager on myself. (I would be included in the "Other" catagory that would undoutedly exist.) Thanks.
Aug-05-06  Kreifi: Wou, had good few days. NW from under 200 almost to 900. :]

But, anyone knows how the networth is calculated?

Aug-05-06  DCP23: <But, anyone knows how the networth is calculated?>

Chessgames Bookie: <Will there be betting on the US Open?> It's hard to offer betting on large open tournaments since players can, and often do, sign-up at the very last minute. Betting on individual games is also hard, as pairings are sometimes posted only a few minutes before the round begins. We may open a betting pool once the event has begun on the final winners.
Aug-05-06  DutchDunce: HANDICAPPER'S CORN: Dortmund, final round

Kramnik-Leko: Past experience and notoriety ("Drawnik", "Drawko") suggests an 80% draw chance here. On the other hand, few will forget Leko's masterful last-minute choke at Linares this year - not to mention the 2004 championship, against none other than Kramnik himself.

Kramnik 1st move: While Kramnik was famous for opening 1.Nf3 in the 1990's, recent history suggests a drastically different trend. In over 120 Kramnik white games after 2002, the king's knight has been on the frontline a mere 5% of the time, with 1.e4 being the new favorite. Further complicating matters is the fact that VK has an upcoming match of some significance with Topalov, and tipping one's hand in terms of opening repertoire could be deadly.

Handicapper's favorite vegetable: Bok choy.

Aug-06-06  strifeknot: Play at Dortmund this morning starts at 7:00 EDT, but closing time for betting is still set for just before 9:00.

  Chessgames Bookie: ♗ ANNOUNCEMENT ♗

The last day of the Summer Leg will be September 17th, 2006, coinciding with the end of the Open International Women Championship in Szeged, Hungary.

The ChessBookie game will reopen for the Fall Leg no later than September 19th, just in time to open up betting on the Kramnik-Topalov World Championship match which is scheduled to start on September 21st.

Aug-06-06  suenteus po 147: Wow, after falling to -400 chessbucks I managed to claw my way back up near to my starting 1000. The loanshark can be your best friend if you start winning bets again.
Aug-06-06  soughzin: Anyone else catch the Adams over Aronian at 3-1? Aronian's good but that's too much against someone like Adams who btw had white one more time And white against Aronian.

So is the only event left the Women's Championship or is it just the last event on the leg?

Aug-06-06  suenteus po 147: <soughzin: Anyone else catch the Adams over Aronian at 3-1?> It's a big part of the reason I've clawed my way back ;)
Aug-06-06  DCP23: What betting events will we have before the end of this leg? There's that Gelfand-Navara match coming, plus they'll have simultaneously another match -- Jackova-Hort, maybe something else?..
