Jan-28-07  barbababa: <suenteus po 147> <Am I missing something?>

In case of several winners the odds are reset. Also ChessBookie changed the odds after the three way tie was clear. I am complaining that he did it in an unusual (and in my opinion unfair) way.

Jan-28-07  barbababa: <suenteus po 147> You could also think that the odds for several winners cases are fixed after the betting closes. It would just be unpractical write down all the possibilities. For instance, there are 364 possible three way winner combinations. (And 3432 possible 7 way winner combinations.)
Jan-28-07  suenteus po 147: <barbababa> Hmmmm.... Very complicated. It is situations like these that make me glad I don't have to run the Chessbookie :)

WannaBe: Coulda been worse, I did bet all draws...
Jan-29-07  sofistis1: how can I compete someone who starts with 10000 when I was given 1000. Is not fun and while I was much enthusiastic in fall session I think is quite boring now because I realize it is totally unfair. My only chance to win the leg was to bet on Carlsen for Corus A, Konstiteva for C and so on. It is meaningless.

Sneaky: You had to qualify during the previous 9 months of the year. Cest la vie, there's always next year...
Jan-29-07  Bob726: I wouldn't be that suprised if GM Yury Shulman played the moved Qa4 here. It seems to be the best move on the computers and beside since i have little chance to win, its all or nothing here and if he does move qa4, then i would be right back in it.
Jan-29-07  Bob726: In 2006. some strong players used it including Aronian, Kaprov,Naditach. Besides, they scored a decent record with it (+2,=8,-1).
Jan-30-07  barbababa: <sofistis1>I agree with you. Everybody should have reasonable chances to compete in the winter leg. I suggest next year top 10 from previous legs starts with 2000 instead of 10000 chessbucks. Also it could be possible to award extra 1000 chessbucks for winter leg from each top ten positions in the previous legs. Or 1000 from 1st position 900 from 2nd 800 from 3rd etc. For example if someone was 2nd in the summer leg and 5th in the fall leg, he would start with 2500 chessbucks instead of 1000.

Also I think the maximum bet should be less than now. If Topalov, Radjabov or Aronian would have been the sole winner and someone bet all 10000 to him, he would have been almost certain winner of the winter leg with only one bet.

Jan-30-07  barbababa: <Chessgames Bookie> You didn't answer me but I found this from your help page. <8. If there are two or more winning choices in an event (e.g. a tie for first place), all tickets for any winning player will be paid off. The total winning pool is split evenly among all winning players then those smaller pools are distributed to the winners normally. > However, this is not normal parimutuel betting. Normally, the amount of money bet on the losers is divided proportionally among the winning tickets, like you also say in help page. In case of three corus winners A, T and R, this means that 100 bet to A pays back as much as 100 bet to T or R.

Since it was written in your rules, I have nothing to complain. I just never thought you would deal the money back in such a strange way.

Jan-30-07  refutor: i didn't get one, but i think the 10000 prize is a good reward as opposed to 2000. the winter leg is the "championship" leg, so it makes sense that a significant advantage should be given
Jan-30-07  TrueBlue: hate the betting caps :( That's why I didn't participate in the last leg. If there were no betting caps, I would be rich now :) Even in poker you can go "all in", but not here ...
Jan-30-07  barbababa: <refutor> Congrats for great performance so far in the winter leg.

<TrueBlue>I thought you went all in. Have you made more than one bet so far?

Jan-30-07  TrueBlue: barbaba, I coudn't go all win because of the 10K cap. If it wasn't for the cap, I could have borrowed money from the loan shark.

WannaBe: I think it may be better, to have the next championship leg's participants be listed separately from the regular folks. If, they are to start with 10K.

This way, a clear 'winner' can be determined, while others can still participate (kinda 'separately').

Plus the non-championship's top finisher can qualify for the next championship.

Or, have everyone start out 1K, but give the championship participants a special designation.

Just some random thoughts/ideas while waiting for the test machine to become available.

Jan-30-07  TIMER: <TrueBlue> Actually the caps much more greatly handicap those on lower scores trying to get into the game. In the third leg I could not make my typical comback from negative net worth due to the annoying 200 caps until you reach 1500! Without the caps this time I would already be top ten ( as it was I would be between 7000 and 17000 higher even this time just for an armaggedden game going the other way- which might have put me in the lead already despite the handicap!) I just want to get up to be allowed to bet more, then we will see...
Jan-30-07  TrueBlue: Timer, I hear you brother:) We should all unite and remove those pesky caps! Starting at 1000, I wasn't able to make any money with the caps. Without them, I easilly made over 20K the first leg. The second leg I started betting only 5 days before the end of the leg and still made decent dough. If you vote for me, I promise you no caps and daily interest on your chessbucks!!!!!!
Jan-30-07  barbababa: <TrueBlue><I coudn't go all win because of the 10K cap.> You had 10000 chessbucks and you bet 10000 for Topalov Corus winner? That is usually called going all in.
Jan-31-07  TrueBlue: barbababa, but I could have borrowed 5000 from the loan shark and went 15000 in ...
Jan-31-07  TIMER: <TrueBlue> Much worse for me- I could have gone about 7500 all in last bet (half 15000), but am capped at 1000 (10 times less!)
Jan-31-07  TrueBlue: this game is just like the real world, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer ...
Jan-31-07  hitman84: Now com'on guys its just a game :)

Chnebelgrind: 5th Gibraltar Chess Festival At least one of the "OTHER" will be among the winners. Having bet on this we only can hope that Adams can not draw level on them. Otherwise we have to share our hard-earned points with all the Mickey-fans.
Jan-31-07  unsound: <this game is just like the real world, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer ...> As in the real world, this is probably true of classes as a whole. However, individuals might, for example, drop out of the moneyed classes due to misfortune, or, erm, stupidity: SETTLEMENT DATE: Jan-28-07

Feb-01-07  RonB52734: Akopian won Gibraltar outright! Woohoo! Go "Other" (my favorite chess player)!
