Sneaky: I just tried to cheat based on SwitchingQuylthulg's advice and I got a very special error message:

<< Look big boy, I don't know what you're trying to pull, but I think you better just leave this page and come in again. Maybe press refresh on your browser a few times. Now get out of here! >>

ROFL... uh oh I think I'm in big trouble, you gotta watch out when the Loanshark starts calling you "big boy".

May-26-07  Joshka: Okay, who's paired against Leko?...Mikhail or Dimitri?
May-26-07  Joshka: Okay I'm assuming it has to be Mikhail.

Chessgames Bookie: <Joshka> Yes, Mikhail Gurevich is the candidate.

Chessgames Bookie: The biggest bet we've ever set up is now online. We call it the SUPERFECTA -- you have to predict the results of FIVE games in order to win.

The games are: (1) Aronian/Carlsen (2) Bareev-Polgar (3) Shirov-Adams (4) Bacrot-Kamsky (5) Gurevich-Leko. For example, if you bet Aronian-Draw-Shirov-Draw-Leko then you will win if Aronian beats Carlsen, Shirov beats Adams, Leko beats Gurevich, and the other two games are drawn.

In order to keep the number of combinations manageable, we took all of the combinations that contain only 1 draw, or no draws, and lumped them together in the "OTHER" ticket at the bottom of the list. Even employing that method, there are still 132 possible outcomes you can bet on.

The betting window is here >> Candidates Matches: Game 4: SUPERFECTA. Remember, Wednesday is a rest day, so when round 4 comes the players will be rested and ready to fight. The betting window will stay open until Thursday (May 31st) 6:55am (US/Eastern).

Good luck!

Annie K.: World Youth Stars Tournament ended two days ago, when are the winner bets getting paid off?
May-29-07  Davolni: I think people have to congratulate me for all of a sudden appearing in top 10 list in this chessbookie game.

Congratulations to Davolni!!!

One "SMART" bet and here I am...

LOL::)

There's always the loan shark. But be careful ;-)

Chessgames Bookie: Round #5 has a bet called the PICK FOUR in which you must pick the results on four boards.

The four games are: (1) Carlsen-Aronian (2) Grischuk-Malakhov (3) Gelfand-Kasimdzhanov (4) Ponomariov-Rublevsky.

Candidates Matches: Game 5: PICK-FOUR

Don't be confused by the new format. To save space, we did not list the "Draw" results in the tickets. That means if you pick the ticket "Gelfand-Ponomariov" you are also betting that Gelfand wins, Ponomariov wins, and that the games Grischuk-Malakhov and Carlsen-Aronian are drawn.

Likewise, the ticket that says just "Carlsen" is shorthand for "Carlsen-Draw-Draw-Draw".

If you want to bet that all games are draws, there is an option at the top that says "ALL DRAWS" (i.e., Draw-Draw-Draw-Draw).

We hope that is clear! And good luck!

Chessgames Bookie: The PICK FOUR from round #5 was such a success, we opened one up for round #6.

Candidates Matches: Game 6: PICK-FOUR

Good luck!!

♔ TRIVIA ♔ The total amount of money in the Chess-Bookie universe is 360,017 chessbucks. The Chessgames Bookie account now has 33,453 chessbucks accured due to the 5% juice. The overall money supply continues to rise however, due to 100 chessbuck injections courtesy of the loanshark, as well as new people signing up to play the game throughout the Spring leg.

Jun-07-07  Raskolnikov: Why was the closing time of the bet "39.Move Shulman vs The World" postponed?
Jun-10-07  Touch of Knight: Dear <Chessbookie>, not a big issue, but I just noticed that my net worth changed from 5090 to 5094 on the leaderboard after the last recalculation, although I had no bets at that moment. My account is still 5090 as it should be. Can you explain?
Jun-10-07  Touch of Knight: Dear <Chessbookie>, I really enjoy the PICK FOUR type of bets because of the multitude of odds you have to deal with. However, betting on a lot of different combinations is time consuming. Could you design the odds table in such a way that it is possible to enter different bets directly into the table?

Chessgames Bookie: <Raskolnikov: Why was the closing time of the bet "39.Move Shulman vs The World" postponed?> I'm not sure if you are asking why it was extended, or why it wasn't extended. In either case, for these Chessgames Challenge bets, the closing time is flexible. If the GM delays his move, we reopen the betting an additional 24 hours (or longer if necessary). However, sometimes I forget to do it. My boss hates that.

Chessgames Bookie: <Touch of Knight> You had us scratching our heads over this one. We finally remembered, there is a known bug that can occur when somebody buys a ticket at the very instant that their net-worth is computed for the day. Mind you, you never actually have the extra money, it is simply displayed wrong on the leaderboard. You have the catch the system in that millisecond between when you get your new ticket and when money is deducted. It's a one-in-a-million shot that happens a few times each leg anyhow, due to the sheer volume. Incidentally, this bug can't possibly effect the final standings for a leg, since betting is impossible at the very end.

Chessgames Bookie: ♔ END OF THE LEG ♔

We will announce the end-date for the Spring Leg soon. There WILL bet bets available after the Candidates Matches are over, but not necessarily very many--so take your position on the leaderboard seriously!

We will announce the final date as soon as we figure it out. Thanks for your patience.

Jun-11-07  MarkThornton: What happens if two games amonst the Candidates Matches are the equal longest, or equal shortest?

Chessgames Bookie: <Touch of Knight: ...Could you design the odds table in such a way that it is possible to enter different bets directly into the table?> That is a good idea. The current method of buying tickets has worked very well, but now that we are introducing these new bets with enormous numbers of choices, a different input method would be very handy.

Chessgames Bookie: <MarkThornton> If there's a dead heat, then tickets for all winning games would be paid. In such cases, the payoff odds are be very poor (as such a large number of tickets are winners). In the extrmely rare case that ALL entries in a bet are tied (i.e. every single ticket is a winner) we will just offer a refund for the entire bet. (The alternative would be to pay off all tickets slightly less than what people paid for them, due to the juice. But it is our policy that you win a wager, you cannot lose money. This scenario has never occurred.)
Jun-11-07  YouRang: Heh, I suppose some you may have noticed: I've broken into the <top 100> of the ChessBookie Standings. Yeah, it feels good to be up here with the "big boys". :-)

Annie K.: <Chessgames Bookie: <Touch of Knight> You had us scratching our heads over this one.>

My mental picture of this action is a bit hazy... were you each scratching their own head, or...? :s :p

The only payoff late today is the prematurely finished Gelfand-Kamsky match winner bet. This is progress! ;) (Yeah, I like to be a nuisance.) ;p

But actually, I dropped in here to ask if it would be possible to insert a FEN diagram into the Shulman move bets pages to make it easier to consider the choices offered to those not actively participating in the game.

Jun-11-07  whiteshark: Dear <Annie K.>, loanshark got you ? Can I help you in any way ? Uhh, just bet my last bucks on Shirov - maybe we should talk tomorrow again, anyway.

  Annie K.: <whiteshark: Dear <Annie K.>, loanshark got you?>

I hear he's looking for me, but I'm not too worried - considering that last time we met, he said "you owe me a lot of dough, buddy boy"... somehow, I don't think he's got a very clear description of me. ;)

BTW, you any relation of his? Something seems rather fishy here! :p

Anyhoo, I wasn't due anything from the Gelfand-Kamsky match bet, I was betting on Kamsky to win that one...

  Chessgames Bookie: ♗ END OF THE LEG • JUNE 26TH 2007 ♗

The Sping Leg will end on Tuesday June 26th, which is the final round of the Bazna tournament in Romania. (For schedule, see http://www.turneulregilor.ro/en/ind....)

We are also looking for other bets (besides the usual Shulman wagers) to include alongside the Bazna tournament.

Good luck everybody!
