Jul-09-07  refutor: the only problem with that Bob726 is that if Timmerman takes 3 days/move it will easily be the next leg before anything is resolved

Chessgames Bookie: We've opened up betting for the 40th Biel Tournament in Switzerland.

Biel Chess Festival: WINNER

Friendly advice: Please note that we will continue to take Biel bets for almost two more weeks, and the winning tickets will not be paid off until August 3rd. Don't foolishly tie-up all your money in this event now, only to find yourself unable to bet on other events coming up in July. The loanshark will NOT help you if you have all your money tied up in pending tickets.

Chessgames Bookie: We've opened up betting on the 2007 USA Women's Championship: US Women's Championship: WINNER.

The winner(s) will be declared on July 20th. Good luck!

Jul-16-07  TIMER: <Chessgames Bookie> Just want to draw to your attention that Krush's second round game is already drawn, so unfair bet! See http://www.uswcc2007.com/results.ht... The game bet should be cancelled.
Jul-17-07  brankat: <Chessgames Bookie> The US Women's Championship format is TWO (2) games a day, except on the last day (round 9).

So, for instance I had bet 200 bucks (I thought it was funny, like 'seeing" the future) on the I. Krush second round game (to draw), since I already knew it had been a Draw :-). So, now I'm to collect about 600 dollars:-)

By the end of the tourney I could get quite affluent.

A dream come true! You guys should do this kind of thing more often :-)

Jul-17-07  blazemaster: i agree with timer that is completely unfair! it sould be cancelled
Jul-17-07  brankat: That's the only way I can make a buck here :-)

Chessgames Bookie: I see the error now. The official site did not list the game #2 results so I naturally put up bets for round #2 unaware that it was already history. I plan on refunding all tickets later today after I go over this with my boss.

Meanwhile, tomorrow's early round is available for betting: US Women's Championship: Rd 5: Krush vs Battsetseg

Jul-17-07  blazemaster: thanks a lot for fixing this.
Jul-17-07  Hot Logic: I feel a little disappointed at not getting a payout since I did a whole bunch of research on Baginskaite (including learning about her win against Nakamura) before calling her to draw Krush with white. But I understand that it is an unfair bet given that at some point in the betting period one of the results became a certainty. Ah well, C'est la vie.

lostemperor: <Hot Logic> that is very unfortunate for you but Chessgames Bookie did the logical thing of refunding the bets. This error occurs every now and then also at profesional bookie offices, I know for a fact. It would be a different matter if a program could show which bets are made before the game starts and which after.

Btw. I also did a research on Baginskaite on the official site before betting. Only to find out that the position looks drawish:)

Jul-18-07  brankat: <lostemperor> <Btw. I also did a research on Baginskaite on the official site before betting. Only to find out that the position looks drawish:)>

I didn't analyze the position, just the result :-)

Jul-18-07  technical draw: If Battsetseg wins the US womens championship I will win this leg of the competion. I will soar over 10,000 chessbucks and will only have to lay back and make no bets and and glide in. Thanks (of course it's still a bug "if")
Jul-18-07  Ragh: <technical draw> Winning 10,000 chessbucks would be against your pre-season oath of finishing "dead last" in the game.
Jul-18-07  Draw Odds: My tickets:

Rd 7: Krush vs Melekhina : Draw
Rd 8: Battsetseg vs Tuvshintugs : Draw
Rds 7+8: How many draws? : 10 draws

tee hee hee

Jul-18-07  technical draw: <Ragh> True. Which means Batty won't win and I won't win 10 grand and the cellar will still be mine!
Jul-19-07  Hot Logic: Draw Odds:
Staying true to your name eh? :) Is it a case of nominative determinalism?
Jul-19-07  blazemaster: i was just wondering how do find out when each leg starts and ends

Hope your round 1 for Biel went well!

2nd round (July 24th)

Radjabov - Bu Xianghzi: Bu have a +5 -1 =4 lead, however, all of their games took place in 2000. http://www.chessgames.com/perl/ches... What will 2007 bring?

J. Polgar - M. Carlsen: Magnus beat Judit in their only enounter in 2006 at the World Blitz Championship. In that game, Carlsen had white. However, Biel isn't a Blitz Tournament =)

B. Avrukh - Van Wely: Loek leads it with +1 -0 =2, but the three games took place 2000/2001. http://www.chessgames.com/perl/ches...

A. Motylev - Y. Pelletier: First OTB encounter.

A. Onischuk - A. Grischuk: How much wood can (Oni/Gri)schuk schuk, if Oni/Gri schuk wood? Okay, +0 -0 =4 in their previous 4 meetings, Onischuk had white 3 times(!!) This will be the fourth time that Onischuk have white. Someone talk to the tournament directors!!
