| Apr-10-06 | | dakgootje: lol im away for just 1 day and immediately i miss 5 bets to bet on =) |
| Apr-10-06 | | Stevens: ok, i realise this may be covered somewhere but i just wanted to point something out. I just put a 200cb wager on MTEL finishing as 1.Topalov 2.Svidler. It said when i placed the bet that a 10cb wager would win 67cb. Now, after i placed my bet the payout is completely different. But it's different on my ticket stub too! I can understand it changing as a result of more bets taking place, but surely the price offered at the time of the bet should be the price you get!! Unless i'm missing something (entirely possible) this makes the whole thing pointless. I want my 6-1 odds not the adjusted 5-2! |
| Apr-10-06 | | naamloos: The odds taken are the odds when the betting closes. You yourself adjusted the odds on your bet by betting a large amount of money on it. |
| Apr-10-06 | | Stevens: when the betting closes?? that makes the whole operation a complete waste of time! oh well, it was fun while it lasted |
Apr-10-06
 | | cu8sfan: <Stevens> That's part of the fun. You can't know the odds in advance. It's easy to calculate how your bet will change the odds so you may wait until betting ends before placing your bet. This is more like a stock market than a bettor's office with fixed odds. When you buy stocks this will influence the price of the stock. |
| Apr-10-06 | | Stevens: <cu8sfan> ah, i see from re reading the help page, and actually taking it in this time, that it is a parimutuel betting pool. For me though it really does make the whole thing pointless. What's the point of saying "ooh, Svidler to win Mtel at odds of 12-1, great, i'll put a bet on" when the 12-1 means nothing at all! It will change by the time it gets paid out. For me that's the only interest in betting, that you actually know the odds when you place a bet! Doesn't sound too crazy does it?? |
| Apr-10-06 | | themadhair: Dembo-Peptan draw - pay up son:) |
| Apr-10-06 | | percyblakeney: Fressinet-Nikolic drawn too, while Kozul could be on the way to mess up what was a drawish pawn up endgame against Ivanchuk... |
Apr-10-06
 | | Chessgames Bookie: Parimutuel betting is popular among horse races, like the Kentucky Derby. The betting model has its strengths and weaknesses. One of its weaknesses is that the shifting odds encourages people to make bets right before the post time when they have the best idea of what the odds will settle at. (However, if you want to make a very large wager, there is an impetus to make the bet early so to encourage other bettors to take up positions opposite your own.) This is no big deal at racetracks, when betting is only open for a few minutes anyhow. One of the strengths is that the odds always represent the bettor's current opinion on the outcome. Also, it's very simple to understand and regulate, compared to the internet betting exchanges that have become so popular of late. Another one of its strengths is the ability to pool money for exotic bets like our new Mtel Masters: Perfecta. |
| Apr-10-06 | | percyblakeney: Kozul-Ivanchuk also drawn now, Ivanchuk tried hard to win a pawn down endgame but after 88 moves draw was agreed. |
| Apr-10-06 | | percyblakeney: Georgiev-Nijboer also drawn after 88 moves, betting on draws was a good idea today... |

 | | WannaBe: I've always thought that if you are picking the first-second place finishers in order, in a race, it's called an exacta. (Usually in a horse race) Then I looked it up in the dictionary, exacta and perfecta are the same thing!! Learn something new everyday. :-) |
| Apr-10-06 | | Stevens: <chessgames bookie> thanks for that outline however you missed also...
<One of its weaknesses is that> you don't know the actual odds of what you want to bet on!! I can see that's it's far easier to run though in this format so i can see why it's done this way. The more common way would be a potential nightmare to run and administer. |

 | | Chessgames Bookie: We have added wagering propositions for boards 1-3 of round 8 in the European Individual Championship and Board 1 in the women's Championship. |
| Apr-10-06 | | percyblakeney: European Individual Championship: Rd 8 Bd 2: Ivanchuk-Georgiev is tricky. Ivanchuk has played Georgiev ten times and mainly drawn, his last win was back in 1993. I think I'll go for a white win, but I'm not sure... |
| Apr-10-06 | | Isolani: <chessbookie> Thanks for your research and response. I understand now why I felt the final calculations were off - my bad. |
| Apr-10-06 | | EmperorAtahualpa: I see Fressinet not so far away from winning the European Individuals Championships! I sure hope he will pull it off, because I have 50 chessbucks on him, which would give me 3,319 chessbucks in return if he wins!! :) |
Apr-10-06
 | | Sneaky: I have 8 chessbucks on Fressinet. I bet all of the longshots hoping that one would cash in. |
Apr-10-06
 | | WannaBe: Alright, I'm all in on Fressinet... If I lose, I'm blaming <EmperorAtahualpa> :-)) |
| Apr-11-06 | | NakoSonorense: AAAAAAAAAAAH, I wagered 1400 chessbucks on topa to win mtel, but that tourney starts within one month and i dont have any money left. is there a way to retreive my money so i can waste it on other wagers? |
Apr-11-06
 | | cu8sfan: *chuckle* Just because Yelena Dembo kibitzes on these pages everybody was betting money on her so I just HAD to lay her - lay a bet on her that is. (-; |

 | | cu8sfan: Talking about having to be dead to be put on a bill: This rule must be unwritten or dependant on the country. Sir Edmund Hillary (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edmund...) for instance is still alive and is pictured on the New Zealand five-dollar bill. |
