Apr-08-06  gauer: The first time I saw the ChessBookie game, I thought it was posted merely as an April Fool's joke. It seems to have taken off since.
Apr-08-06  percyblakeney: Jobava-Anastasian ½-½.

  Sneaky: Back against the wall, it was time to take chances. A big fat bet on today's draw was the ticket. SNEAKY is hereby in the running! 2006 Chessbookie World Champion! <rocky music swells>

  Sneaky: zarra, maybe you're not American, but we have a rule over here... you have to be dead to get your mugshot printed on money!
Apr-08-06  dakgootje: <you have to be dead to get your mugshot printed on money!> I dont think weve got that rule over here in the netherlands, but i think its good to use it here
Apr-08-06  AlexanderMorphy: damn i needed todays game to end in the forties(moves that is)...still 5th though! :) not bad for someone who still has 4 more years until he can bet real money!
Apr-08-06  Madman99X: I just put 50 chessbucks on the caro-kann for the Topy-Nispeneau opening. Papa needs a new pair of shoes.
Apr-08-06  Necessary Truths: <A more complete list might look like this --

1 = Morphy
5 = Alekhine
10 = Tal
20 = Capablanca
50 = Lasker
100 = Steinitz
500 = Euwe
1000 = Botvinnik>

Can we put Smyslov on the 2? A rare bill like that would be just what he deserves.

Apr-08-06  Isolani: Let me tell you that ChessBookie has made watching a chess game much more exciting. I typically do not watch the live chess games here but I admit that I was entrenched in front of my computer this morning rooting for Nisipeanu to make time control and then pull out a draw within 49 moves.

  WannaBe: I'm getting a third mortgage on my place so I can pay off the bookie!
Apr-09-06  Necessary Truths: Neither Queseniov nor Sargassian are playing In the European Championship; I just checked online to see how they were doing and couldn't find them in the standings, pairings or in the list of players. So, could I have my four chessbucks back, please?

  Chessgames Bookie: You're right; furthermore Krasenkow is also not present. The tickets have been refunded.
Apr-09-06  EmperorAtahualpa: <Chessgames Bookie> Why can't we bet on games in the European Individual Championships anymore?
Apr-09-06  Ezzy: I thought I would get a refund for Asrian who doesn't seem to be playing.

Also I got a refund for Quseniov, but I thought this guy was obviously Guseinov. I don't think Quseniov exists as a player.

Apr-09-06  EmperorAtahualpa: <Chessgames Bookie> I think you forgot to settle one particular bet in the game, this one to be exact:

Topalov vs Nisipeanu Match

  WannaBe: Winner!! Winner!! Got Topalov, and the match score!! :-)
Apr-09-06  suenteus po 147: <WannaBe> Congrats, WannaBe! I only managed to pick up 17 chessbucks in the last round by picking Topalov to win. All my other bets fell through.
Apr-09-06  Isolani: Mr. Bookie, is there any way I can review my betting history after I cashed in the tickets? My current tally appears to be way askew.
Apr-09-06  midknightblue: <chessbookie> you know where I could find someone to watch my back? I am gonna be into the loanshark big in the next week or so, and I have no steady source of chessbucks.

  Chessgames Bookie: We have opened wagering on the top 4 boards of round 7 of the European Championship as well as the top board of the women's Championship.

<Isolani> There is no way to review your betting history after you have discarded your tickets at the moment.

  Sneaky: Dembo's playing on the top board? Good for her!!
Apr-10-06  Isolani: <chessbookie> <There is no way to review your betting history after you have discarded your tickets at the moment.> Understood. However if there is a way from your end that you could possibly verify that the 560 chessbucks (from betting 500) were added to my tally from my winning bet on the winner of the Topolov-Nisipeanu match I would appreciate it.

Thanks.

  Chessgames Bookie: <Isolani> We do keep a logfile of transactions, and yes I see

Sun Apr 9 15:22:45 2006 (Isolani) WINNER TICKETID=10003207 COLLECT=561 BET=10232/1

That was definitely credited to your account. You're probably just forgetting about some losing bets (that's human nature). If you want to write us at chess@chessgames.com I can show you your entire transaction log, but as a rule we don't want to get into this level of detail, unless we seriously think that there might be a bug, which at this point I doubt.

  Chessgames Bookie: I answered a question the other day about the loanshark in a way that may confuse some people. I want to go over it again.

The object of the game is to amass as many chessbucks as possible, but only in terms of net worth. When you started with 1000 chessbucks you might have run straight to the loanshark who would lend you 500 more, but then your net worth is 1500 - 500, it's still 1000, so you haven't really gained anything. To make matters worse, the loanshark will start increase your loan by 5 chessbucks daily, therefore your net worth will start to decay.

We don't care if you pay back the loanshark before the leg ends or not, but please understand that running up a debt won't improve your standings.

Debts are not carried over to the next leg, nor are winnings.

If the loanshark can be used to help you win the game, the method must be to loan money for a very good bet, then pay him back immediately after you win. Or perhaps it's best to never do business with him at all. (That's just my opinion, you can do what you want.)

I hope that's clear.

Apr-10-06  percyblakeney: My bet of the day is 50 on the draw in
European Individual Championship: Rd 7 Bd 1: Kozul-Ivanchuk. Ivanchuk hasn't played any 2600 players yet in the tournament, and a draw with black is an OK result when you're in the lead...
