Apr-07-06  refutor: how is kotronias doing in the european championship?
Apr-07-06  AdrianP: <Refutor> Dunno, but my boy Jobava won with black today to take the lead.
Apr-07-06  AlexanderMorphy: hey i seem to be doing quite well considering i've lost ten bets and only won 1!

  WannaBe: Ouch, Ouch, Ouch... 2 wins netted me approx. 60 chess bucks, losses (5?) cost me 300 chess bucks!!

At this rate.... 8-(

Apr-07-06  EmperorAtahualpa: <Chessgames Bookie> I have a technical question:

Why doesn't it read on my profile how many chessbucks I have?

Apr-07-06
Premium Chessgames Member
  WannaBe: Because you lost it all?! :-)
Apr-07-06
Premium Chessgames Member
  Chessgames Bookie: Because you still have 1000 chessbucks; you're technically not in the game yet. (We may eliminate that in the future and make it show your standings if you have any tickets, but for now that's how it works.)
Apr-07-06  EmperorAtahualpa: <Because you still have 1000 chessbucks; you're technically not in the game yet. (We may eliminate that in the future and make it show your standings if you have any tickets, but for now that's how it works.)>

<Chessgames Bookie> Actually I already spent all my chessbucks on bets, so shouldn't it read then that I have 0 chessbucks?

True, the results of all the bets I placed are not known yet, but still...

  Chessgames Bookie: I misspoke: I meant to say, your net worth is 1000 chessbucks.

Incidentally, we are ready to pay off the Dos Hermanas bets. It looks as if Burmakin beat Handke on tiebreak criteria, but we want to be absolutely confirmed that this tournament does not allow ties for first place. If it does, then the Handke tickets will have to be paid as well. If anybody can find some information from the official site to confirm the winner, please let us know.

Apr-07-06  EmperorAtahualpa: <Chessgames Bookie> Also please pay attention to User: Strategic Master and User: pravin3108 who are currently on 7th and 8th place in the top 10. I've noticed that they registered at chessgames.com today and yesterday, respectively.

Did you check whether these names are not alter egos of someone who is already registered at chessgames.com? If so, I don't think this is what you want..

  Chessgames Bookie: A lot of chessgames regulars who have been lurkers for a long time recently decided to sign-up to play in the game. There's nothing wrong with that.

Like I said before, let us worry about that kind of thing behind the scenes. We have our ways of detecting multiple accounts but we don't discuss what they are.

Apr-07-06  nsteinme: <bookie> The official site (http://www.fsajedrez.com/torneos/20...) says "VLADIMIR BURMAKIN GANĂ“ EN DOS HERMANAS". I don't speak spanish, but I'm just going to take a stab and say that it means Burmakin's the winner. Now come on and pony up, you owe me some 1500 chess bucks for my 50 down at 31:1!

  Chessgames Bookie: That's good enough for me. The Dos Hermanas tickets have been paid off at 31:1 odds.
Apr-07-06  EmperorAtahualpa: <Chessgames Bookie> Is there any chance that you could extend the top 12 to, say, the top 30 or 40?

Just watching such a small list is not so attractive and gets a little boring, IMHO...

Apr-07-06  percyblakeney: It took Matamoros and Burmakin ten moves to draw their game. Now if Cheparinov just had won against Handke he had given me 549 chessbucks as tournament winner but it wasn't to be...

Impressive result by Handke, by the way, with a 2450 rating as compared to for example Korneev with 2671.

  Chessgames Bookie: <extend the top 12 to, say, the top 30 or 40?> We might do that, but still only the top 10 will qualify for the Winter Championships.
Apr-07-06  Necessary Truths: Haha! My strategic betting on Dos Hermanas paid off big time! I saw how undervalued some of those bets were and cashed in, now I'm top of the leaderboard!

  offramp: I think that the currency used by chess bookie should be the tal, in honour of the biggest gambler of them all.

"I won 42 tals on Topalov's opening!"

  cu8sfan: During the beta-tests one had to discard every single ticket individually. For my own sake I'm so glad we asked for the "discard all losing tickets" button or else it would take me hours. I never thought I'd suck so badly in this game...
Apr-08-06  Necessary Truths: I second the 'Tal' -bucks idea.

  offramp: What would be the symbol for a tal? A capital t might be all right. T50.
Apr-08-06  dakgootje: <I never thought I'd suck so badly in this game...> Ahh cmon your doing bettter then me atm... but i think that says more about me then about you...
Apr-08-06  Necessary Truths: I've changed my mind; chessbucks is the right name and we need images of these chessbucks with the faces of various world champions on them. The only question is which world champ should be on which denomination of bill? Any suggestions?

  Chessgames Bookie: <which world champ should be on which denomination of bill? Any suggestions?> We actually tried to work that out during development, even though it's not actually part of the game. You can see from one graphic that we put Lasker on a 50, and there's another graphic that shows Steinitz on a 100.

A more complete list might look like this --

1 = Morphy
5 = Alekhine
10 = Tal
20 = Capablanca
50 = Lasker
100 = Steinitz
500 = Euwe
1000 = Botvinnik

Apr-08-06  zarra: <Bookie> That's a nice list, but I would put Fischer on the 500-buck-note and Kasparov on the 1000.
