Sep-11-07  technical draw: For those not into gambling slang the "juice" is what old timers called the "vig" or "vigorish". It's the cost of making a bet. Standard street "vig" or "juice' is $10 for each $100 bet.

Championship Tournament Games!

Vishwanathan Anand - Alexander Grischuk: Anand leads it +5 -4 =7, but (super) majority of their games have been rapid and one blindfold! http://www.chessgames.com/perl/ches...

Vladimir Kramnik - Boris Gelfand: Probably no two opponents knows each other better in this tournament, Kramnik leads it +13 -5 =36(!!) http://www.chessgames.com/perl/ches...

Alexander Morozevich - Peter Svidler: These guys are dead tied at +7 -7 =8! http://www.chessgames.com/perl/ches...

Levon Aronian - Peter Leko: Aronian leads it with +3 -1 =7, but four of those games were either rapid or blindfold. http://www.chessgames.com/perl/ches...

Constant readers of the Handi-Capper's Corner would notice, I did not differentiate whether the player have white or black piece in my stats this time, I feel that the players had ample of time to prepare for their seven opponents, and respected opening repertoire, I (personally) feel, that the color will not matter, all the participants are capable of drawing or winning with black, and equally, blunder and lose with white.

Sep-13-07  Ragh: <WannaBe: ..Vladimir Kramnik - Boris Gelfand: Probably no two opponents knows each other better in this tournament, Kramnik leads it +13 -5 =36(!!) >

Probably not, because Anand and Kramnik met over a 100 times over the board. Anand leads it with +18 -14 =86 record. search "Anand vs Kramnik"

Incidentally, Anand leads Gelfand +11 -6 =36 (almost similar stats as Kramnik vs Gelf) search "Anand vs Gelfand"

Sep-13-07  refutor: i'm so glad a new leg started

good luck everybody

Grishchuk - Leko: They are tied at +2 -2 =10, http://www.chessgames.com/perl/ches...

Anand - Gelfand: Two guys that have played each other numerous times, Anand leads it with +11 -6 =36(!!). http://www.chessgames.com/perl/ches...

Morozevich - Aronian: Aronian have a +4 -1 =3 lead. http://www.chessgames.com/perl/ches...

Round 2

Kramnik-Morozevich: Discounting rapids and blindfolds, Kramnik leads it +3 -1 =6, when Kramnik have white, he is +1 -1 =4 against Moro. Their last meeting in a traditional time format game, was in 2005 Corus, where the game was an eleven move draw.

Aronian-Anand: Discounting rapids and blindfolds, Aronian leads it +1 -0 =3, when Aronian have white, he is +1 -0 =1 against Anand. Their last meeting in a traditional time format game, was 2007 Linares-Morelia, where Aronian won with white.

Gelfand-Grischuk: Discounting rapids and blindfolds Grischuk leads it +5 -3 =10, when Gelfand have white, he is +2 -2 =6 against Grischuk. Their last meeting, Grischuk had white, and won, in the 2007 Pivdenny Bank Chess Cup.

Svidler-Leko: Including rapids and blindfolds Svidler leads it handily, with the score of +10 -4 =22, when Svidler have white, he is +5 -0 =9 against Leko. (Discounting rapids and blindfold). Their last meeting where traditional game-time was used, was earlier this year in the Linares-Morelia tournament, where Svidler with white, drew after 27 moves.

Sep-14-07  technical draw: Well, I see TIMER has taken the early lead again. But don't worry I'm saving a space fro him right above me in the next to last place.

Round 3:

Anand-Kramnik: Counting all games, Anand leads it, with the score of +18 -14 =86(!!!), when Anand have white, he is +12 -3 =38. So far, in 2007, there have been a draw (Dortmund, Kramnik playing white), a win for Kramnik (white, Corus), for standard time control. In their 2007 Amber tournament, they drew their rapid (Anand had white) and Kramnik (playing white) won the blindfold.

Morozevich-Svidler: Discounting rapid/blindfold games, they are tied at +4 -4 =6, when Morozevich have white, he is +0 -1 =4 against Svidler

Grischuk-Aronian: Technically, this would be their 'real' game, http://www.chessgames.com/perl/ches... they met once in 2003, in an Internet Section 17-A (Sounds like a flight seat designation) and then in the 2006 Amber.

Leko-Gelfand: Discounting rapid/blindfold games, Gelfand have a slim lead of +3 -2 =8, when Leko have white, he is +1 -3 =4 against Gelfand.

Sneaky: I like the new "pick four" format where you combine all the outside tickets (with less than 2 draws) into "OTHER".

When the list becomes too long it's really hard to manage, so this way all of betting possibilities are fairly possible outcomes. Like my Grischuk-Morozevich ticket at 238:1 odds woot woot!!!

Sneaky: So the pick 4 winner is "Anand Kramnik"??? Aw man, I don't have that one... it was too obvious!!

I HATE THE PICK FOUR!! I am financially ruined :(

Annie K.: Hehe. I had 50 on Anand-Kramnik, which puts me at second place with 2594 cbucks just now - except the leaderboard started to update just when I cashed it in, so it was miscounted. It'll show up next time if I don't lose it all meanwhile!
Sep-15-07  malthrope: Ha! Looks like the previous calculation was but just a hiccup. Now there has been a full count of Leaderboard tabulations! Yeah me too <Annie K.> had $42 c-bucks on the Pick Four 'Anand-Kramnik' duo (among other bets)...

Hang in there <Sneaky> in the Summer leg I came back from oblivion twice! ~lol~ ;-) - Mal

Annie K.: <malthrope> yeah, I managed to lose every single bet I placed last round except for that one, and it was only what I call "a security deposit" - but you gotta love those pick-four odds! ;)

<Sneaky> don't despair, comebacks are fun!

<Bookie> thanks for the recount and the diagram in the GMT bet pages. :)

Sep-15-07  technical draw: <Sneaky> Welcome to the dungeon where I rule! Ruined? You don't know the meaning of the word "ruined". Heck, you're not even in the negative yet. So, rich boy, stop complaining and get out of my ghetto!
Sep-15-07  percyblakeney: My bet was on the Anand-Svidler combination, not because I believed in it but 142.77 was a good odds. It didn't look impossible for a while but turned out as expected after all...

In the upcoming round I have 500 on draw in Anand-Kramnik and I feel sure I will get that one right. At the moment Kramnik has a lower odds than Anand but it's a long time since he won with black, and it seems as if he never has done it against Anand. It's possible that Anand will win, but having beaten Aronian with black yesterday I don't think he will be too unhappy with a draw.

Sneaky: True, in previous legs I've gone from -500 to +2000 overnight, all it takes is one lucky pick 3 or pick 4. And the nice fat man with the brass-knuckles is always willing to let me take another 100 buck shot at it.

Annie K, did you hit that pick 4? I notice you skyrocketed in the scoreboard.

Sep-15-07  percyblakeney: My remaining bets: 200 on Anand winning the tournament and 200 on Kramnik leading after four rounds. The latter odds was quite good (3.93 as compared to 2.73 as final winner) considering that he has three whites in his first four games.

Annie K.: <Sneaky> Yeah, had 50 on it. :) And I also just made a last-minute decision to put 100 on 8...Na6 in the GMT game - so I'm due another 999 c$s right now! :D

But not to worry, I placed a bunch of bets on Mexico Rd3, so I probably won't be rich for long. ;p

<percyblakeney> I put 200 on Svidler for the after 4 rounds winner, since (while I would never expect him to win the WCC) he usually does well in the early rounds of tourneys, and the odds were great. If that comes in too, I had better quit betting for the leg! ;)

Round 4!!!

Kramnik-Grischuk: They have met 4 times, three times Kramnik had white, two of the meeting is Cap D'Agde, a rapid tournament, (Kramnik won both rapid games with black and white) the other two times were 2003 (B23), and 2005 (B09) Wijk aan Zee, where both games ended in draw.

Morozevich-Anand: Morozevich is +3 -7 =6 when paired up with Anand. (not counting rapids/blindfolds) When Morozevich have white, he is +2 -3 =3 against Anand.

Aronian-Leko: Aronian is +1 -1 =5 against Leko. (not counting rapids/blindfolds) When Aronian have white, he is +0 -0 =4 (Aronian did win a rapid in 2006 against Leko with white.)

Svidler-Gelfand: Svidler is +5 -4 =15 against Gelfand. (not counting rapids/blindfolds) When Svidler have white, he is +3 -1 =10 against Gelfand.
