   Jan-06-19 G McCarthy vs M Kennefick, 1977 (replies)

Domdaniel: Maurice Kennefick died over the new year, 2018-2019. RIP. It was many years since I spoke to him. He gave up chess, I reckon, towards the end of the 80s, though even after that he was sometimes lured out for club games. I still regard this game, even after so many years, as the ...

   Jan-06-19 Maurice Kennefick (replies)

Domdaniel: Kennefick died over the 2018-19 New Year. Formerly one of the strongest players in Ireland, he was the first winner of the Mulcahy tournament, held in honour of E.N. Mulcahy, a former Irish champion who died in a plane crash. I played Kennefick just once, and had a freakish win, ...

Domdaniel: <NBZ> -- Thanks, NBZ. Enjoy your chortle. Apropos nothing in particular, did you know that the word 'chortle' was coined by Lewis Carroll, author of 'Alice in Wonderland'? I once edited a magazine called Alice, so I can claim a connection. 'Chortle' requires the jamming ...

   Jan-04-19 G Neave vs B Sadiku, 2013 (replies)

Domdaniel: Moral: if you haven't encountered it before, take it seriously. Remember Miles beating Karpov with 1...a6 at Skara. Many so-called 'irregular' openings are quite playable.

   Dec-30-18 Robert Enders vs S H Langer, 1968

Domdaniel: <HMM> - Heh, well, yes. I also remembered that Chuck Berry had a hit with 'My Ding-a-ling' in the 1970s. I'm not sure which is saddest -- that the author of Johnny B. Goode and Memphis Tennessee and Teenage Wedding - among other short masterpieces - should sink to such ...

Aug-06-07  mack: Else this place gets too serious all of a sudden:

FROGS CHESS NIMZOWITSCH BATCHIMEG BURROUGHS MOON ----

Phew.

jessicafischerqueen: Good gravy <Mack> I once dated a fellow named <Frogs Chess Nimzowitsch Batchimeg Burroughs Moon>.

He was of the <East Egg>, as opposed to <West Egg>, <Moons>, if I recall correctly.

<Jessica Gatsby>

Aug-06-07  twinlark: <mack> OK I understand what you're saying. You may remember though that Oona King strongly repudiated Jeremy Paxman's utterly graceless faux-PC faux pas, declaring that race and gender was irrelevant in this context.

Also Oona was pro-war in a Muslim neighborhood which was why there was a 26% swing, I think it was, to George. He deserved his win and Oona's spinelessness earned her loss.

I'll stick with George. Flawed he may be, but he has more guts, heart, brains and integrity than the rest of the Commons MPs combined.

Enough said then? If not, then let's continue the discussion on my forum and let this place lighten up.

Aug-06-07  mack: <TL> Yeah, nuff said I would have thought. We're more or less on the same wavelength, aren't we?

Domdaniel: <mack> & <twinlark> Thanks, I enjoyed that. Any time, chaps.
Aug-06-07  WBP: <Dom> <Mack> <Twinlark> Interesting discussion, even if, as a Yank, I can't always follow precisely what's going on (not knowing the players). And hell, political discussions seems to turn up on virtually all the forums from time to time, and usually not with <We're more or less on the same wavelength, aren't we?>, though not being on the same wavelength can make some of these other discussions amusing (perhaps unintentionally) to follow!
Aug-06-07  twinlark: No worries, <mack> (CG's server was down otherwise I would have replied earlier). Thanks <Dom>.
Aug-06-07  mack: Just think <TL>, we could make a fortune touring this act!
Aug-06-07  twinlark: Deary me <mack>, I already live in the ACT (Australian Capital Territory)...Tell ya what mate, why don't we raise a figurative ale and clink glasses to George and Oona, the best act in BL&G that's visible thru me bicles (pl. of bicle; cf monocle) from this side o' the equatorial challenge.

*skol*

Ahhh...BTW, George is on talkSPORT (instead of Jon *shudder* Gaunt) this week every day for three hours from 10am. You really wanted to know that dincha?

Have another. Even though it's before 7am here, I'll raise my glass.

Cheers <mack>.

Aug-06-07  twinlark: Come to think of it, maybe bicles are really *twincles*.
Aug-06-07  mack: Aha, something we can definitely agree on: Jon Gaunt is a gormless @#$%.
Aug-07-07  twinlark: Yo, a schmuck.

  jessicafischerqueen: <Mack> no, that's not correct I don't think.

The word im<post>er means <one who does not post>, no?

I think <Yes I'm here. I just got nothing to say> qualifies as a <post>.

Perhaps you meant <improper>?

Or <immolate>?

Just saying...

Aug-07-07  mack: <jess> I bow down once again to your Spock-like logic.

jessicafischerqueen: <Mack> good grief man there's no need for all that.

Truth be told, I haven't actually made any sense at all since 2004, when I published the <Important Monograph>:

"On the Impotence of being Ernest in a World Suffused with Mendacity"

It was published by the <Ohio State Agricultural Fair>.

Aug-07-07  mack: <"On the Impotence of being Ernest in a World Suffused with Mendacity">

All right, put me out of my misery. Fact and fiction seem to blend so harmoniously on here these days I've no idea about the above.

Domdaniel: Mendacity, eh? As Lord Tweedsmuir memorably said in 1950, "You have to know a man awfully well in Canada to know his surname".

Wonder if old Tweeders (aka plain John Buchan) ever actually met a, you know, woman?

jessicafischerqueen: Well I didn't really publish any such nonsense.

Just alluding to the fine <Wilde> play, and commenting that in a world where lying gets you ahead, what is the point of being ernest?

Please excuse the <agricultural horse> references.

Those are crazed abstruse allusions to <Thurber's> very funny story <University Days>, in which a <cub reporter> on the <Agricultural beat> at <Ohio State University> is told to write a first sentence that "grabs" the reader.

He comes up with this sentence:

"Who has noticed the sores on top of the horses in the animal husbandry building?"

Heh

Domdaniel: The <Ohio State Agricultural Fairy> is ... some kinda state symbol?

Speaking of imaginary beings, Jess, got any info on Caddy & Amy, aka Cadborosaurus?

Is it possible that certain so-called sea monsters were actually *two bald guys* doing synchronized swimming?

Aug-07-07

  jessicafischerqueen: NO!

And that's quite enough about the <two bald guys> as well, thank you very much.

You don't see me posting that you are <Three 13 year old Catholic School Girls from <<<St. Alban's>>> all over the freaking place>.

Thanks for your attention to this matter.

Domdaniel: <Jess> Certainly, yer maj. I hereby affirm that you are completely in the clear, and that our investigators, invigilators and exterminators have found no link whatsoever between you and these cranially follicle-challenged males.

Nonetheless, they're Out There.

Aug-07-07  mack: <You don't see me posting that you are <Three 13 year old Catholic School Girls from <St. Alban's> all over the freaking place>.>

Steady on Jess, there's a difference. For one, it's not illegal to download pictures of bald lads from Minnesota. (Is it??)
