   Jan-06-19 G McCarthy vs M Kennefick, 1977 (replies)

Domdaniel: Maurice Kennefick died over the new year, 2018-2019. RIP. It was many years since I spoke to him. He gave up chess, I reckon, towards the end of the 80s, though even after that he was sometimes lured out for club games. I still regard this game, even after so many years, as the ...

   Jan-06-19 Maurice Kennefick (replies)

Domdaniel: Kennefick died over the 2018-19 New Year. Formerly one of the strongest players in Ireland, he was the first winner of the Mulcahy tournament, held in honour of E.N. Mulcahy, a former Irish champion who died in a plane crash. I played Kennefick just once, and had a freakish win, ...

   Jan-06-19 Anand vs J Fedorowicz, 1990 (replies)

Domdaniel: <NBZ> -- Thanks, NBZ. Enjoy your chortle. Apropos nothing in particular, did you know that the word 'chortle' was coined by Lewis Carroll, author of 'Alice in Wonderland'? I once edited a magazine called Alice, so I can claim a connection. 'Chortle' requires the jamming ...

Domdaniel: <al wazir> - It's not easy to go back through past Holiday Present Hunts and discover useful information. Very few people have played regularly over the years -- even the players who are acknowledged as best, <SwitchingQuylthulg> and <MostlyAverageJoe> have now ...

Domdaniel: Wesley is a man of his word. Once again, I am impressed by his willingness to stick to commitments.

   Jan-04-19 G Neave vs B Sadiku, 2013 (replies)

Domdaniel: Moral: if you haven't encountered it before, take it seriously. Remember Miles beating Karpov with 1...a6 at Skara. Many so-called 'irregular' openings are quite playable.

   Dec-30-18 Robert Enders vs S H Langer, 1968

Domdaniel: <HMM> - Heh, well, yes. I also remembered that Chuck Berry had a hit with 'My Ding-a-ling' in the 1970s. I'm not sure which is saddest -- that the author of Johnny B. Goode and Memphis Tennessee and Teenage Wedding - among other short masterpieces - should sink to such ...

  jessicafischerqueen: <Trike>

Maybe <Irina Krush> wants to use the ticket?

Or <Bjork>.

I think they both live in NYC?

Aug-13-07  WBP: <Dom> What a bio! (Hats off to you, <Jess>.) You've done so much in your short life! Your casting ideas are also quite interesting.

I seem to have forgotten most of my life. The rest is on TV.

jessicafischerqueen: <Bill> never take your hat off in the presence of a lady.

Oh wait. Other way round.

Do men still wear hats that aren't <baseball caps>?

I think you'd look good in a nice <Homburger> or maybe a <Bowlderizer>.

jessicafischerqueen: <Dom> Mr. Zappa (RIP) would be very pleased with your latest song you wrote, IMO.

EMO.

IN MY OPINION.

Is that so backbreaking a job, to actually type out an acronym?

SNAFU!! UNESCO!! EN GARDE!!

Aug-13-07  Ed Trice: Snafu is Situation Normal All F@#ked Up.

Domdaniel: <WBP> I've actually forgotten *all* of my life. If it weren't for Jess, why, I wouldn't even know who I was...

Musta been those darned Amnestics. Never trust a drug that says "Let somebody else have the hangover for once!"

Open Defence: <But he lost it, somehow, and I don't pretend to understand why. Drew back until only schoolboy smuttiness and precision musicianship were left... like a bizarre mutant mix of Varese and 'dirty' postcards, or Stockhausen with a strap-on (note: NOT a type of guitar).>

uh uh.... lets not forget the return of the son of shut up and play yer guitar....

Aug-13-07  Ed Trice: Umm, so you guys are saying I wasn't in Iceland? How silly of me to take these pictures while I was there.

Domdaniel: <Final note on those numbers> Just in case anyone tried following it and got lost, the square of 40 is obviously 1600, not 1699.

This is what happens when I type in the dark.

Aug-13-07  Red October: <Jess> ready to teach Rook endings to the Koreans ? .. hmm look out China.. here come the Koreans...
Aug-13-07  mack: Remember when you were at school, and all of a sudden you'd hear a hundred and four kids yelling 'fight, fight, fight' in joyous unison? And you'd leg it over to the other side of the playground, and much to your disappointment it had died down, and Mr Greaves from the geography department was already hauling somebody away? That's how I feel right now.

Domdaniel: <Deffi> Just this once, I beg to differ. Let's <forget the return of the son of shut up and play yer guitar....>

Haven't actually ever heard it, mind, so I dunno what I'm talking about. Wouldn't be the first time.

Domdaniel: <mack> Right, so wotsisface is bleeding on the deck, and Mr Greaves is hauling Jess and me away ... so what happens next? Do we write out "I will tolerate pedantry and try to refrain from murder" 10,000 times, just like a Bartsimpsonic Youth?

Or are we 21st century thuglets, who stab this Greaves idiot and leg it? Like 12-year-old Bonnie and Clyde?

Aug-13-07  Ed Trice: <jessicafischerqueen> I have no clue what I said that would allow anyone to conclude I was bragging.

Jess you might want to check your email.

jessicafischerqueen: I don't know <Deffi> I'm just hoping I can get an OTB partner or club for <classical chess> in <Daegu>.

I don't mind playing on the Net if I have to, but it's NOTHING compared to OTB.

Nothing, I tells you!

Domdaniel: <Jess> A Styrofoamosaur? Were they the ones who lived on an exclusive diet of black coffee? When I was a <totally normal> small boy (one of 2.4 children all with an IQ of 100.00) I went through the mandatory dino-fascination phase.

But it's all gone now. Maybe I wiped that memory core to make room for sex, drugs, and the French Defence. With internal links telling me that all three are really the same thing. ("Reification, reification, reification" -- the three fundamentals of Surreal Estate...)

jessicafischerqueen: Heh... I wrote a humor essay about dinosaurs that I performed on stage in <Montreal>.

Can I EMU it to you?

I'm overdue to send you a message anyways.

Domdaniel: <Jess> yes please to an electronic mail thingy, I'd very much like one, especially one with a funny attached ... and I'll write back quickly cos I know you're close to liftoff day there, aren't you?

Meanwhile, I'm close to falling over at 02.42am here, so g'night...

I'll just have TO TALK LOUDER MAYBE.

jessicafischerqueen: <dom> could it be a photo of one of <Mr. Kurtz's> two girlfriends?

You know, the black one <Conrad> compares to the <tenebrous darkness> (in one of the most beautiful paragraphs ever rendered in English).

Oh wait that's a "fictional character."

Never mind.

jessicafischerqueen: <even Alaric shuddered while sacking Rome, and went on to play on early Cure albums like <<<Three Imaginary Boys>>> and <Seventeen Seconds>.>

Choke.. sputter... hehh

Aug-14-07  Ziggurat: <And what about that <what's its name song the "In Between the Days" I think>?>

"In between days". Together with "Just like heaven", one of the best songs to sing when you're dead drunk in a bar full of exchange students. (Yes, I tried it)

<Is <Ministry> Goth music? <Nine Inch Nails>?>

They're both borderline ... Nine Inch Nails may be slightly more goth. Ministry are a bit too insensitive, I would think. Some über-goth bands are <Joy Division>, <Sister of Mercy> and <Bauhaus>.
