Domdaniel: Maurice Kennefick died over the new year, 2018-2019. RIP. It was many years since I spoke to him. He gave up chess, I reckon, towards the end of the 80s, though even after that he was sometimes lured out for club games. I still regard this game, even after so many years, as the ...

   Jan-06-19 Maurice Kennefick (replies)

Domdaniel: Kennefick died over the 2018-19 New Year. Formerly one of the strongest players in Ireland, he was the first winner of the Mulcahy tournament, held in honour of E.N. Mulcahy, a former Irish champion who died in a plane crash. I played Kennefick just once, and had a freakish win, ...

Domdaniel: <NBZ> -- Thanks, NBZ. Enjoy your chortle. Apropos nothing in particular, did you know that the word 'chortle' was coined by Lewis Carroll, author of 'Alice in Wonderland'? I once edited a magazine called Alice, so I can claim a connection. 'Chortle' requires the jamming ...

Domdaniel: Moral: if you haven't encountered it before, take it seriously. Remember Miles beating Karpov with 1...a6 at Skara. Many so-called 'irregular' openings are quite playable.

Domdaniel: <HMM> - Heh, well, yes. I also remembered that Chuck Berry had a hit with 'My Ding-a-ling' in the 1970s. I'm not sure which is saddest -- that the author of Johnny B. Goode and Memphis Tennessee and Teenage Wedding - among other short masterpieces - should sink to such ...

Domdaniel: Oh, and I have a maquis strategy but it's still deep crypto. Read 'The Virgin and the Dynamo' and 'The Education of Henry Adams' for hints.

It might also be possible to study the psychopathology of Jess's illustrious namesake Mr Bobby Fischer. Why I can't say. Morphic resonance, maybe.

jessicafischerqueen: HEY! Virgin and the Dynamo is in <James> multi volume very impressionisitc and frequently inaccurate history of the United States.

Good chapter though.

Read it together with <The Ghost in the Machine>, after taking a lot of LSD for best results.

Fearless leader is back!!

Aug-22-07  mack: <but it's still deep crypto>

What's new?

These woods - were they 'white or black'? Will one never sleep?

Domdaniel: Right, this is Plan A. First I babble some completely random gibberish, such as "She baffs at nothing, the heterospeed" or "electric eels build false cathedrals".

Then a volunteer, such as Jessica, responds with "Wow! Convulsing with laughter! He'll never live THAT down".

Then I get banned.

OK, let me think about plan B instead.

Aug-22-07  mack: Does Plan B involve you getting banned as well?

Domdaniel: <mack> I suspect they all do, eventually. Equifinality, or something like that.

It occurs to me, however, that certain areas of totally legitimate 100% kosher discourse (eg "Bobby Fischer as autistic mimophant", "chess variants and their misuses", "great gothic cathedrals I have known" and "The Complaint & The Cure...") might be continued without sanction.

I could be wrong.

A <mimophant> combines the sensitivity of a mimosa where his own feelings are concerned with the thick hide of an elephant concerning the feelings of others. Coined by Arthur Koestler to describe RJ Fischer in 1972.

The discipline of Mimophantics hasn't moved on much since Koestler's time. We could add to it, I'm sure.

jessicafischerqueen: What about <Plan X from Outer Space>?

I think that's a real movie.

Maybe.

Aug-22-07  twinlark: Hi Dom, Jess

I noticed there was a rumble between <Ed Trice> and <JoeWms> recently. Thanks for standing up for Joe; I'm sorry I wasn't around for that as I would have added my support to yours.

I much prefer the way you guys hold court to the way Mr Ed does business: you and most of the people that you play with are fun loving, enjoy intellectual gymnastics, and above all you respect people.

Mensches, in my book.

Bye for now.

  jessicafischerqueen: Hi <DOGGIMUS>

In what shape be the <Principate>?

We need accurate damage reports!!

Aug-22-07  twinlark: Hi Jess

This one has aroused my ire: http://www.smh.com.au/news/opinion/...

It pretty much represents the standard of respect for discourse in this country.

  jessicafischerqueen: OH great.

Well, these <commodities and commerce> have to be protected.

It's not like people are important, or anything.

(Remember, as <Princeps> you have <de facto>, though not <de jure>, absolute power-- so I'm expecting you to do something about this.)

pS I will be in your time zone in about 45 hours.

I have to perform an "orientation" first that involves HIKING AND CANOOING.

This better be on the "up and up."

Aug-22-07  twinlark: <absolute power-- so I'm expecting you to do something about this>

I'll make Peter's brother, Tim - a humanitarian member of the clergy - his keeper.

Aug-22-07  twinlark: <This better be on the "up and up."> Indeed. Haven't you been told why you need to do this if you're going to be a teacher?

Maybe.

Hopefully.

I DIDN'T SIGN UP FOR THIS

But I did find out there are plenty of people in <Daegu> who play chess.

Domdaniel: <twinlark> Thanks, mate. I thought of summoning you to the cause -- both as a natural ally and a friend of Joe's -- but I didn't want to get anyone else in trouble.

You may have missed a lot of it (I did, even though I was in the thick of it for a while). Posts were being deleted as fast as the adversary could hunt 'em down and copy/paste 'em to the bosses.

Traditionally, to be an 'informer' (or 'tout') is a terrible thing in Irish culture -- far worse than the English 'grass' or the American 'stool pigeon'. But the Russian 'stukach' is also pretty poisonous, and I think there are also a couple of choice terms in Aussie.

The way these things play out, both parties will studiously avoid one another in future. I'll avoid references to certain dinosaurs and the number three. CG seem alert to the fact that the "stalking" operated in both directions -- and I understand that the Adversary, like me (and Jess) got some kind of official warning.

Basta. Coincidentally, I just got an automated reminder from CG that my year of fun (under the current identity) is almost up. Should I renew? Should I trade myself in again? Or give it up and take up something less strenuous like tantric numismatics? Decisions, decisions.

Domdaniel: <Spirit of Saint Nimzo> There have now been three games which got this much-coveted award. They can be seen in my game collection of the same name. The first, by Sulskis, remains the best.
Aug-23-07  achieve: (stumbles, knocks stuff over.. Gulp..) -- <You have a Game collection!!!>

Why wasn't I aware enough? How come that in one full year, I never clicked on your game collections? I am at a loss for words... An apology is in order, too.

I am doing some research into the Nimzo, and the Sulskis game I just played through is brilliant!

I am gonna go over it in depth again..
