   Jan-06-19 G McCarthy vs M Kennefick, 1977 (replies)

Domdaniel: Maurice Kennefick died over the new year, 2018-2019. RIP. It was many years since I spoke to him. He gave up chess, I reckon, towards the end of the 80s, though even after that he was sometimes lured out for club games. I still regard this game, even after so many years, as the ...

   Jan-06-19 Maurice Kennefick (replies)

Domdaniel: Kennefick died over the 2018-19 New Year. Formerly one of the strongest players in Ireland, he was the first winner of the Mulcahy tournament, held in honour of E.N. Mulcahy, a former Irish champion who died in a plane crash. I played Kennefick just once, and had a freakish win, ...

Domdaniel: <NBZ> -- Thanks, NBZ. Enjoy your chortle. Apropos nothing in particular, did you know that the word 'chortle' was coined by Lewis Carroll, author of 'Alice in Wonderland'? I once edited a magazine called Alice, so I can claim a connection. 'Chortle' requires the jamming ...

Domdaniel: <al wazir> - It's not easy to go back through past Holiday Present Hunts and discover useful information. Very few people have played regularly over the years -- even the players who are acknowledged as best, <SwitchingQuylthulg> and <MostlyAverageJoe> have now ...

   Jan-04-19 G Neave vs B Sadiku, 2013 (replies)

Domdaniel: Moral: if you haven't encountered it before, take it seriously. Remember Miles beating Karpov with 1...a6 at Skara. Many so-called 'irregular' openings are quite playable.

   Dec-30-18 Robert Enders vs S H Langer, 1968

Domdaniel: <HMM> - Heh, well, yes. I also remembered that Chuck Berry had a hit with 'My Ding-a-ling' in the 1970s. I'm not sure which is saddest -- that the author of Johnny B. Goode and Memphis Tennessee and Teenage Wedding - among other short masterpieces - should sink to such ...

  jessicafischerqueen: <Dom> OK <FROGSPAWN> content:

I recently posted a game I played (for real):

1.e4 e6 2.RESIGN.

sO <Vintage Eyal>, he digs this gem up-- take a look at it. won't take long.

And me thinking I'd come up with a novelty!

F Camaratta Jr vs A Savage, 1991

NOw Don't just read the score. I'ts important to PLAY THROUGH THE MOVES to pick up the subtleties.

And it's annotated as well. don't forget to look at the annotations in the little box there.

Domdaniel: <Jess> Did you know that you just committed <accidental plagiarism>? About 100 years ago in England, Blackburne was giving a simultaneous. In those days most amateur games still began 1.e4 e5 -- the French Def was known to be pretty much sound, but not played much outside master tournaments -- it was thought too solid and hence a tad unsporting.

Blackburne played 1.e4. His opponent, an elderly chap, replied 1.e6. Blackburne threw up his arms in mock horror, saying "The French! I resign!"

The old geezer held him to it, and the game was scored as 1.e4 e6 2. Resigns. (Hey -- d'you think the determined old sod coulda been great-grandpappy Trice? Stranger things have happened.)

Aug-17-07  Eyal: You might be interested to know that the winner of this game is User: duchamp64; no wonder he used the French so well.
Aug-17-07  WBP: <Jess> No fair springing book lines on your obviously unprepared oppenents! (And brilliant work, <Eya>, as usual.) And Hi, <Dom>.

jessicafischerqueen: Heh. Yes, that <Eya> is certainly brilliant!!

No argument here.

jessicafischerqueen: <Joe> do you think I should do that on my flight to <Korea>?

I had planned to spend the whole time with my <Tal> book and <little board>.

But I'm up for any helpful suggestions!

Aug-17-07  Dr.Lecter: Not much advice to give on that. i just sleep on the plane, cuz I can't think well on a plane
Aug-17-07  JoeWms: "The French! I resign!"

Same thing today, Dom. Calling out to the plane's pilot, "Hi, Jack!" gets <your> instant resignation.

jessicafischerqueen: Hey <Joe> I'd like to know how the order of our posts was reversed?

I responded, but my response is now prior to your post.

Does this mean I'm "magic"?

Or does it mean YOU are "magic"?

Aug-17-07  JoeWms: It's past midnight there, Don. I hope you are awake. I sent an email to your old address. Joe

Domdaniel: <Jess> Well, of course you're magic, ma reine. (Hey, guys, how come I always havta do the gallantry round here? Where are all you gentlemen with your fine cloaks when the Queen points to a puddle?)

Oh no, he's off again. <Puddle of the day> today is a <logic puddle>. You can ask it questions.

1. Hey, Puddle. Are you deep?
- They don't come any deeper

1. Uniformly? Are some bits shallower?
- No.

1. That's a 'no'?
- Yes.

23. How was it for you?
- It was like the irruption of extension into orifice.

1. Which means?
- Picking one's nose, probing for ear-wax with a pencil, need I go on? 2. No.

Aug-17-07  JoeWms: POCC. A long time ago I took a date to her first-ever pro hockey game. We were a little early, she was getting fidgety.

In the bleachers, shouting over the crowd noises:

"Hey, Joe, when do they puck off?"

Do they have toilets in <Korea>?

Aug-19-07  Red October: <jess> these important questions should have been asked during your interview.. now... you have to be careful of that deadly <Yellow Snow>....

<Watch out where the Huskies go and don't you eat that Yellow Snow!>

I got this from the "horse's mouth."

I was just speaking with <Daniel Freeman> yesterday, <Dom> is under no sanction of any kind.

He's probably just busy with his many projects.

  Domdaniel: G'day all.
I had to go to the woods for a while. Literally.

No connection to anything here. Sheer coincidence, if you believe in such logical absurdities.

<Jess> Got your message and dashed off an incoherent reply.

<Joe> My apologies for any concern caused by my vanishing act. I have not been nuked.
