   Jan-06-19 G McCarthy vs M Kennefick, 1977 (replies)

Domdaniel: Maurice Kennefick died over the new year, 2018-2019. RIP. It was many years since I spoke to him. He gave up chess, I reckon, towards the end of the 80s, though even after that he was sometimes lured out for club games. I still regard this game, even after so many years, as the ...

   Jan-06-19 Maurice Kennefick (replies)

Domdaniel: Kennefick died over the 2018-19 New Year. Formerly one of the strongest players in Ireland, he was the first winner of the Mulcahy tournament, held in honour of E.N. Mulcahy, a former Irish champion who died in a plane crash. I played Kennefick just once, and had a freakish win, ...

Domdaniel: <NBZ> -- Thanks, NBZ. Enjoy your chortle. Apropos nothing in particular, did you know that the word 'chortle' was coined by Lewis Carroll, author of 'Alice in Wonderland'? I once edited a magazine called Alice, so I can claim a connection. 'Chortle' requires the jamming ...

   Jan-04-19 G Neave vs B Sadiku, 2013 (replies)

Domdaniel: Moral: if you haven't encountered it before, take it seriously. Remember Miles beating Karpov with 1...a6 at Skara. Many so-called 'irregular' openings are quite playable.

   Dec-30-18 Robert Enders vs S H Langer, 1968

Domdaniel: <HMM> - Heh, well, yes. I also remembered that Chuck Berry had a hit with 'My Ding-a-ling' in the 1970s. I'm not sure which is saddest -- that the author of Johnny B. Goode and Memphis Tennessee and Teenage Wedding - among other short masterpieces - should sink to such ...

Domdaniel: Funny, it's still Pizza Day here ... did we forget to synchronize calendars?

Happy Pot Noodle Day anyhow, Red! Cheerfully!

Feb-05-08  Red October: these Capitalist Julian Calendars....

Domdaniel: <Zzzzzzzzzzz> G'night, Red. G'night, Deffi. And Baby too.

I'm due to 'wake up' and *start* "working" in a couple of hours ...

Work, as Oscar said, is the curse of the drinking classes.

Feb-06-08  Red October: actually it is the Queen's Unusual Enduring and Enterprising Repartee ... wonder if ole <Bent> ever used it maybe he was not of that <bent> of mind

Domdaniel: Frogspawn ... home of Volatile Insomniacs Anonymous Getting Rapidly Awake ...

It's Morning in Antarctica.

Feb-06-08  achieve: hmmm... spermalot -- no need to get volatile.
Feb-06-08  achieve: <how long is a piece of string?> aboooooout.... thread long, H-wise.

Feb-06-08  achieve: Re: the USElections (I too got up early to watch the coverage), I was surprised to see Obama lose in California, after the polls indicated he was roughly 10% ahead...

Either the polls are unreliable, or these prelections are rigged, or both, or I'm rigged, or the Media...

Why do I even bother?

My phone is chordless-- I preferred it chorded... So you can see what connects what and leads to where... And if you really got into a fit after an anonymous insomniac call you could just enjoy the angered physical "cutting" of the chord in casu... Or swing it in circles above your head like a lasso and release at maximum speed... the sound of the swishing through the air in expectation of the following splat against a solid object...

"I'm not a violent man, Mr. Fawlty!"

God Bless Mr. Hutchinson

Gooo Obama!

Domdaniel: I was up early following the primaries in order to write about the media coverage ... a pundit preying on pundits.

Not sure why I bother, really. Money, perhaps.

Right, I'll go crawl thru the knee of an idol now ...

Feb-06-08  achieve: <Dom> Money is a *perfect* reason, unless you can literally "live off the land" --

--but I would focus on the human psychology, involved in this...

Fascinating to hear a woman say:"I'd love to see a woman for President in my lifetime."

Another woman saying that the "You go, girl!"-factor is there, but Hillary representing the Old Guard, and Obama the new, led her to vote for Obama...

From a (human) psychological (Sign O' the Times) perpective I think these elections are a superior subject, though personally I think the American Dream - bubble, burst already.

That may be pessimistic, but the rethoric offered by the candidates is ridiculous, except maybe, partially, B. Obama.

Feb-06-08  achieve: PS. My previous post said nothing about the "Media coverage" phenomenon, and therefor wasn't really a "a propos" reaction to your post.

Domdaniel: <Niels> Innaresting. I think either a Clinton or Obama presidency would be a good sign for the world, and for America. Him maybe even more so: although right now I, too, would 'prefer a woman', as it were. Hmm.

Oddly, there's something about *his* rhetoric I don't trust ... all that soaring stuff, repetition, slogans etc. It hypnotizes the crowds (it keeps dem agog!) - ouch, sorry.

Feb-06-08  milesdavis: Bill & Hillary have a long history of high crimes, they along with the McDougals robbed that bank in Little Rock blind.Though that seems to be a prerequisite for becoming president of the USA.

Domdaniel: Aha. A visitor from the neglected hinterland of cool. Is it politics what attracts 'em?

Not that feet - and other living leg-ends - aren't welcome.

Domdaniel: <milesdavis> Yes, we can't have yet more bank robbers in The White Location (where the real movies are made). Like President Jesse James, assassinated by the coward Robert Ford.

And all this nonsense about the first this and the first that. Bill Clinton was the second black prez after Jefferson. Hillary would be the second female one, after Buchanan.

Domdaniel: <American Dream> I find it intriguing that <traum(a)> means 'dream' in German, and 'wound' in Greek.

One man's wounds ... is another woman's floor.

Domdaniel: <Niels> ... "spermalot" ... quite brilliant, actually, given the intermeshing of contexts. Crikey, you're fast -- must be your Olympic Gene.
