   Jan-06-19 G McCarthy vs M Kennefick, 1977 (replies)

Domdaniel: Maurice Kennefick died over the new year, 2018-2019. RIP. It was many years since I spoke to him. He gave up chess, I reckon, towards the end of the 80s, though even after that he was sometimes lured out for club games. I still regard this game, even after so many years, as the ...

   Jan-06-19 Maurice Kennefick (replies)

Domdaniel: Kennefick died over the 2018-19 New Year. Formerly one of the strongest players in Ireland, he was the first winner of the Mulcahy tournament, held in honour of E.N. Mulcahy, a former Irish champion who died in a plane crash. I played Kennefick just once, and had a freakish win, ...

Domdaniel: <NBZ> -- Thanks, NBZ. Enjoy your chortle. Apropos nothing in particular, did you know that the word 'chortle' was coined by Lewis Carroll, author of 'Alice in Wonderland'? I once edited a magazine called Alice, so I can claim a connection. 'Chortle' requires the jamming ...

   Jan-04-19 G Neave vs B Sadiku, 2013 (replies)

Domdaniel: Moral: if you haven't encountered it before, take it seriously. Remember Miles beating Karpov with 1...a6 at Skara. Many so-called 'irregular' openings are quite playable.

   Dec-30-18 Robert Enders vs S H Langer, 1968

Domdaniel: <HMM> - Heh, well, yes. I also remembered that Chuck Berry had a hit with 'My Ding-a-ling' in the 1970s. I'm not sure which is saddest -- that the author of Johnny B. Goode and Memphis Tennessee and Teenage Wedding - among other short masterpieces - should sink to such ...

Domdaniel: Yes, it's <Springs Day> in Frogspawn. Let us celebrate:

Alice Springs (and What She Found There)

Hope Springs (One Bob a-Leaping)

Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy)

Spring-sprongs

Boyle's Law of Elasticity

And the Season that's in it, as it were.

jessicafischerqueen: good grief man no commands, only "suggested viewing".

I only watch <PG 200> rated shows.

I think a person isn't mature enough to watch movies until at least their bi-centennial.

And you were my lady,

Would you hire me to build your house,
If you did you'd be crazy"

  jessicafischerqueen: Don't forget <Spring Byington>

Heh- as a film critic you should recall that name.

Yes, somebody actually named their kid "Spring Byington".

I wish my name was Spring Byington.

sigh

jessicafischerqueen: Here is a montage of beautiful spring flowers, and <Judy Garland> singing about them.

Weren't you married to <Judy> in the 60s?

I think I read about that in <Variety>.

Domdaniel: "If winter comes can Spring be fat behind?" (Some Romantic? Sheets? Welly? Kelly?)

"Pray for Spring but face the Winter" (um, ah, Neil Diamond?)

"If winter comes can the following one be more than a year away...?" (B. Aldiss, disqualified for not mentioning springs)

So the winner is ... N. Diamond.
Is he here?
- He is, he said.

No. But Liza Minnelli gave me a hug once. Can't imagine why.

jessicafischerqueen: Ah <Niel Schwartz>... Crushed so hard by show biz he became a <Diamond>...

I AM, I CRIED
TO NO ONE THERE
AND NO ONE HEARD, AT ALL
NOT EVEN THE CHAIR

<Chair>?

Good gravy. Then again, there's this (you better actually listen to this clip buster)

<Liza>? Really? Did all her makeup get in the way? Has to be a good six inches on her face, I reckon.

jessicafischerqueen: Oh here and LIVE on <Frog TV> (really- from France!)

SAAAATELLLLITE of love

<fun fact>: Lou wore a "Jewfro" hairdo way longer than other people did.

Nobody tells Lou Reed to get a haircut.

Nobody.

jessicafischerqueen: John Cale, describing his viola after he cut the hell out of it with a saw, put guitar strings on it, and played it with a bass bow:

"It made a noise like a B-52 Bomber"

can't be bad, cant' be bad...

Apr-25-08  achieve: Judy and her Liza... Chip o the ol' block... Both had that thunderous voice they could unleash... texture of their voice very similar...

"Myyyyyyyy kind of town, Chicago is..."

Dum dee dee dum - (Those *are* "the" words to use online when "describing" you're listening to music, aren't they?)

PS. - funny how Jess can skip to any kind of subject, and it always seems to "land" ...

PS+ THANKS for the <Ray Charles> clip, Jess!!

  jessicafischerqueen: No worries <Doctor Euwe>.

I just saw the <biopic> "Ray" on <free thieving pirate I'm stealing movies streaming free movies>.

Good movie!!

Oh Yes and <Dom> I saw <Bruges> with the dreamy <Ralph "pronounce me Rafe please" Fiennes> on free streaming video. I understand you actually saw the priemier in Belgium and kissed mr. Fiennes after interviewing him? I read about it in <Variety online>.

Isn't the Internet great?

I pay ZERO for all TV, movies, and music--

I don't need to buy a TV, and my Dell Lapdog with Advanced sound card technology and Turbo Samsung headphones give me better stereo quality than any actual "stereo" I ever had.

Also, there are thousands of videos of Sasqutches and the Loch Ness Monster on <YouTube>.

I estimate at least half of them are "genuine."

Plus, thanks to <Wikipedia>, we have slightly inaccurate information on EVERYTHING at the click of a mouse--

Except for <Dom> who uses the <magic square thingy> cuz he is afraid of Mice.

I think a gang of mice attacked him when he was a kid.

jessicafischerqueen: Heh did you guys know there is a Rapper called "Eek a Mouse".

That's his real name too!!

Premium Chessgames Member
Domdaniel: <a Rapper called "Eek a Mouse". That's his real name too!!>

Too true. I believe the 'a' is short for 'albertine'.

<Lou Reed's Hair> Actually, his next trick, around 1973, was a shaved head with swastikas carved into the stubble. In 1973, the shavedness was probably more shocking than the swastikas.

A scant three or four years later, everyone was dripping in *both*, courtesy of punk.

  Domdaniel: <Jess> Amazing. You're omniverous! No, wait, omni-something ... *omniscient*, that's it.

Oh, yeah, one detail. In Belgium I believe the kisses are done *before* the interview. Otherwise the chocolate melts.

jessicafischerqueen: Hmmm.. I think Mommy may have started her Black Najdorfs too late in the evening, making it an "early evening" for her, if you catch my drift.

Luckily it's Saturday in Asia and hopefully <Mommy> will return tonight...

I'd watch it if I were you though.

As a <Frog> expert who has recently immersed himself in the VICIOUS BLOOD SOAKED world of hand to hand Tournament combat....

Say it ain't so!!

Don't forget you are a role model for today's chess youth!!

jessicafischerqueen: BTW did you see the new <Willem Dafoe> police/art thriller?

I'm just about to watch it (for free by stealing it on the net) and I have high hopes for it.

BTW, <yahoo> reported AGAIN today that in two years the Internet will be "full" so then we can all go back to sending paper mail!!

I"m already in practice since my Mom refuses to use email "on principle."

Domdaniel: <Jess> I reject all role model jobs, also on principle. Wouldn't mind being a spokesperson for my generation, but I doubt very much whether the old farts would have me.

Right, that's it -- time for my "motorcycle accident", methinks.
