   Jan-06-19 G McCarthy vs M Kennefick, 1977 (replies)

Domdaniel: Maurice Kennefick died over the new year, 2018-2019. RIP. It was many years since I spoke to him. He gave up chess, I reckon, towards the end of the 80s, though even after that he was sometimes lured out for club games. I still regard this game, even after so many years, as the ...

   Jan-06-19 Maurice Kennefick (replies)

Domdaniel: Kennefick died over the 2018-19 New Year. Formerly one of the strongest players in Ireland, he was the first winner of the Mulcahy tournament, held in honour of E.N. Mulcahy, a former Irish champion who died in a plane crash. I played Kennefick just once, and had a freakish win, ...

   Jan-06-19 Anand vs J Fedorowicz, 1990 (replies)

Domdaniel: <NBZ> -- Thanks, NBZ. Enjoy your chortle. Apropos nothing in particular, did you know that the word 'chortle' was coined by Lewis Carroll, author of 'Alice in Wonderland'? I once edited a magazine called Alice, so I can claim a connection. 'Chortle' requires the jamming ...

Domdaniel: <al wazir> - It's not easy to go back through past Holiday Present Hunts and discover useful information. Very few people have played regularly over the years -- even the players who are acknowledged as best, <SwitchingQuylthulg> and <MostlyAverageJoe> have now ...

Domdaniel: Wesley is a man of his word. Once again, I am impressed by his willingness to stick to commitments.

   Jan-04-19 G Neave vs B Sadiku, 2013 (replies)

Domdaniel: Moral: if you haven't encountered it before, take it seriously. Remember Miles beating Karpov with 1...a6 at Skara. Many so-called 'irregular' openings are quite playable.

   Dec-30-18 Robert Enders vs S H Langer, 1968

Domdaniel: <HMM> - Heh, well, yes. I also remembered that Chuck Berry had a hit with 'My Ding-a-ling' in the 1970s. I'm not sure which is saddest -- that the author of Johnny B. Goode and Memphis Tennessee and Teenage Wedding - among other short masterpieces - should sink to such ...

Domdaniel: <angsty sixteen year old girl> ... True, but I can pass for seventeen.

Anyhoo, I've done the distasteful deed. Approx delete count:

Jess: 5
Moi: 4
Eyal: 1

But I left a few 'testes' that were too funny to destroy or were otherwise harmless. Or non-combatants.

I also zapped my discovery of the etymological link between 'gambit' and 'gamahuche'. Though undoubtedly chess-related, it sat right next to the thunderous missive from CG.com, and may have looked a tad, well, provocative.

I think the 24 hour period has about 4 hours to run. But I see no reason to delete anything else...

jessicafischerqueen: I think it's OK too, <fearless leader>, perhaps it won't be any more painless than brushing one's teeth before Dental examination? Four hours till Dental exam, then?

IT'S A MAN'S LIFE IN THE BRITISH DENTAL ASSOCIATION, of course...

Domdaniel: <Jess> Tried to run a new scientific experiment there, to see if a person's total kibitz count drops when zapping occurs. But it's impossible, as you can post faster than I can delete...

I used to write a column called <Backspace> - it appeared on the last page of a magazine. My gimmick was to finish up with something moderately outrageous and then go...

Backspace, backspace.

Feb-15-07  mack: Sigh... seventeen what?

Glad you've been so frank about what you've zapped.

(Get in there quick, chaps - there's a tailor-made pun for one of you there to get your grubby mits on...)

Feb-15-07  TheSlid: <What else do they make in Belgium?> Last thing of note to be made in Belgium was <ca plane pour moi> by <Plastique Bertranne> - the world's only famous, living Belgian.

Domdaniel: Waffles? Why, yes, indeed they do. With, ah, *flour*, I believe.

As Captain Ahab used to sing to his crew, <Whale Meat Again...>

S'cool, man, we're clean.

jessicafischerqueen: <Moby Dick Fun Pub> is a real place in <Belgium>, saw a photo of it in a recent biography of <Melville> I read last month...

Do you think <Eyal> will visit there after he delivers his paper?

  jessicafischerqueen: <Legitimists>?

Sorry, but I'm actually a <Waldensian>.. or a <Lollard>.. I can't remember, but one of those two I'm pretty sure.

Feb-15-07  WarmasterKron: <More famous Belgians>

Kim Clijsters deserves a mention, surely?

Feb-15-07  mack: "What, you mean he's a frank zapper?"

Jesus, I have to do all the work round here.

jessicafischerqueen: 4.g4?! Why don't he just take the pawn Nxg4? I never understand these "gambits."

Getting lost in first 4 moves already...

jessicafischerqueen: LOL <Dom> you played Bg2 on moves 3. and 8.!!

So move 3. must have been Bb3?

Still trying to reach the FEN position...

Domdaniel: Oops. 3.Bb2 is what it should be. And 8.Bg2 is right...

Hmm, very Freudian. I must be so used to the sequence 'Bg2 Bg7' that I try to play it even before actually moving a g-pawn...

Domdaniel: Midnight here now, around the time my 24 hour probation period runs out.

The clean-up seems sufficient to me.

We move on to subtler zones.

I believed that I *had* complied. I've now deleted a couple more posts that might have been a tad high-spirited.

And I've emailed you. So what next?
