| Feb-20-07 | | calmarten: <Domdaniel> That pawn roller was brutal. I think you caught black in a position he wasn't comfortable with. The early g4 looks playable but in theory its premature since the black king can still end up anywhere on the board and it announced to black that your king would be in the center or on Queenside. as early as 27 f6 I wanted to play Bxd5 and again for several moves it looked quite strong. you must have been low on time thought because black has no reason to play on after exd8=Q+ |

 | | Domdaniel: <calmarten> Yeah - I won't pretend it's a good opening, and I haven't used it often. This was in the last round of a tournament, at a fast time rate, and I think I guessed or knew my opponent wouldn't be comfortable with it. One of the few other games I won with this stuff against strong opposition went crazy early on, with black going for a king walk and not surviving it. I've noticed this opening is especially bad against engines. They just build a big centre and consolidate, or open the c-file and aim pieces at c2. I've seen a couple of master games where white castles kingside, but they're not pretty. Another time, though, I opened 1.e3, followed with 2.b3 and a standard-type Nimzo-Larsen attack, and won in 12 moves -- the winning maneuver being g4-g5 winning a piece. I'll probably stick to more solid stuff in future. One day I may even open a game with 1.e4 or 1.d4 ... |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: And just what happened to <1. ...a6>, might I ask? Huh? Huh? Bin workin' all day on skool... Will probably have breakfast with your game tomorry. A slight bit sad about the corrections made. It was actually a bit of fun puzzling over the incorrect notation... (is Dom allowed to make illegal moves? Is he a "reverse Barney"?-- and then, of course, the "which is actually the correct move game")... Well I guess "reality" is better.

 | | Domdaniel: <Eyal> - <So it turns out we're having a day with a series of wins with opposite colour bishops>
Did you see Carlsen's win against Morozevich in the 1st round? A particularly nice example, where Moro is two pawns down yet tantalisingly close to a draw ... in the end, Carlsen sacs all 3 kingside pawns followed by his bishop to force his a+b pawns through on the queenside. It's also one of those rare cases where the presence of rooks is actually good for the defender, then one pawn down. Moro's mistake was to give up a 2nd pawn to exchange rooks and reach a pure opposite colour bishops ending, but one where Carlsen had an extra pawn on each side of the board. |

 | | Domdaniel: <Jess> Illegal retro? That sounds about right... |
|
| Feb-21-07 | | laskereshevsky: <Dom> <jessica> nice to be supported by you....
and for <...we really must shorten that name of yours, at least among friends..> OK, just thers already another user named <LASKERS>, or someth. like that.. reason why <Lasky? Levsky? Laskeres?> maybe dosnt works....if U like <LKR> its easy and nice....hopefully....at the next :) |
|
| Feb-21-07 | | Eyal: <Carlsen's win against Morozevich in the 1st round> Yeah, very instructive - thanks for pointing that game, as I didn't follow the first round. Strange to see Carlsen playing that ending so well, and then playing the ending so abysmally against Anand. |

 | | Domdaniel: <LKR> Very good. I hereby approve this choice of abbreviation... We *did* have some confusion once when <twinlark> (who visits here) got shortened to the familiar "Larkers", which is too close to <Larsker> - who also drops in here. So you're right. Adding yet another similar name would be molto confusing. |

 | | Domdaniel: <mack> Ta. Maybe that'll wake me up. I was up at 6am writing stuff, having hung around here delinquently until 2am. I must never let myself forget. Four hours sleep turns a body into Margaret Thatcher. Barks quietly. "We use this product incessantly. Some years ago, we were a grandmother, but now we are six separate first cousins, thrice removed..." |

| Feb-21-07 | | mack: I hate sleep deprivation more than anything else. You're in good company, though, with your four hours: http://www-gatago.com/alt/fifty-plu... |

¡El golpe! – now there’s a nice piece of annotation.
Short’n’sweet, too.

 | | Domdaniel: <Jess> - <And just what happened to <1. ...a6>, might I ask? Huh? Huh?> *moment of self-doubt*
Maybe eccentric openings are some kind of category mistake. Being deeply silly while trying to look cool, weird, profound, mysterious... Maybe we'd have beaten those Blancos with a 'normal' opening. Maybe I'd have been 300 ELO points higher if I didn't play eccentric stuff... Nah. Those particular prizes ain't worth playing for... conformity is doublethoughtcrime... St George and no Quarter! *moment passes, as moments do* |

 | | Domdaniel: <mack> Thatch, Madge & Leno are your notion of 'good company'? How, er, nice. Bet you have great parties. Nikola Tesla's cool, though. He even shows up as a character in the new Pynchon. *And* he was a Hrvat. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Dom> I finished today's skool work and I can't find the <CG.com> link to the live game!! Will you post it for me if you get this message?
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH |
|
| Feb-22-07 | | twinlark: Hey Speedy Domzales, your postage rates are overtaking all and sundry, not to mention a few sundrieds, but watch out cause Jessica the Speedier is nipping at your heels. You're burning up the track folks! |

Feb-22-07
 | | Domdaniel: <twinlark> Working on the acceleration formula now, Prof. It'll be a close-run thing... can I get to the Numero Uno spot in the table before <Jess> overtakes me? As of course she will... |
|
Feb-22-07
 | | Domdaniel: <Jess> Apologies, didn't get that message in time -- but you found your way anyhow, yes? I still use the live game page -- Live Broadcast Page -- as my entry point to the whole site, avoiding the homepage etc. It's a fossil from the time when I used chessgames mainly to watch live games and didn't have a forum. Having checked the live page I just click on 'forum' and navigate from here... well, it works for me. |
|
Feb-22-07
 | | jessicafischerqueen: thanks <Dominate> (who ended the <Principate>) I got the link on <flavorites> now. Live chess action? Sounds excellent.
I read some of your stuff on the Net- and had good fun trying to guess which one of them was you based solely on style. I think I figgered a few out. Plus there's the link you sent- so I know thats you. Will email you with responses
Yes, Bobby gave birth to me in 1972 but I didn't actually come out till 1985. Re "brainpower" (like having 15 people call me a moron- well ok one, but a few laughed at me for never finding live game link): I owe it all to VIZ magazine and British sitcoms.
Oh and Manchester Ph... OOPS

 | | jessicafischerqueen: Ahhh the old <posting in other people's fora to avoid cluttering up your own> ploy, eh? <Eyal> tried that yesterday but it doesn't seem to be working... |
|
Feb-22-07
 | | Domdaniel: <Jess> It's not about clutter, it's about quantity. Despite recent deletions, this is now the 7th most posted-in forum, and accelerating. So if you wanna catch up you'll have to stay in yours, maybe do some, ah, nitting... |
|
Feb-22-07
 | | jessicafischerqueen: you continue to say <nit> to old women? Oh, what sad times we live in... |
