I live in Stredokluky (a village near Prague, Czech republic). I play both practical and correspondence chess. My rating in practical chess (Czech national ELO) oscillates somewhere between 2010 and 2060, in correspondence chess I have rating 2155 (my best was 2220 in the middle of 90's). I have no special favorite player but I like to view good games of old masters (Tarrasch, Schlechter, Chigorin etc.)

   Jan-09-26 J Cervenka vs P Kopta, 2026

Honza Cervenka: If 57...Ke4, then 58.Ke1! f3 59.Bg3 f2+ 60.Bxf2 exf2+ 61.Kxf2 +-

   Jan-07-26 Short vs Kramnik, 1996

Honza Cervenka: It looks like white forgot to insert 45.Bxg7+ with idea 45...Kh7 46.Qf4 +-. Or did he miss that after 46.Qh6+ black has 46...Qh7? Anyway, instead of 42...Bh6(?) black should have played 42...Qf5 43.Rh2 Bf4 with decisive attack. 41...Bxe3 was also inaccurate for eventual ...

Jan-06-26 Kramnik vs Short, 1995 (replies)

Honza Cervenka: Ugly 20...Bc8 was the only chance to avoid quick disaster, though white's advantage would be still great and probably decisive anyway.

   Jan-06-26 Capablanca vs Lasker, 1924

Honza Cervenka: <which begs the question if Honza was here on the 30th June why did he not wish me a happy birthday?> Mea culpa!

   Jan-06-26 Smyslov vs G Ilivitsky, 1952

Honza Cervenka: Instead of 14...Nd4 it was correct to play 14...gxf5. Also 15...gxf5 would have been a lesser evil. 16...Bxh6 was another mistake but the position of black was then bad anyway.

   Jan-06-26 T Luther vs O Touzane, 1990

Honza Cervenka: This is quite strange coincidence. But first 10 moves are just a standard opening line, and most of moves after black's three consecutive mistakes (14...Nd4, 15...Bxe4 and 16...Bxh6) are more or less forced or at least fairly obvious.

   Jan-05-26 A Pomar vs Hort, 1965

Honza Cervenka: Instead of 15.Nf6+ white should have played 15.Qxf7+ Kxf7 16.Ng5+ Kg8 17.Nxh3 exd4 18.Nxd4 Nxd4 19.exd4 Bxd4 20.Rb1 with roughly equal game.

   Jan-02-26 N Theodorou vs L Dominguez Perez, 2025 (replies)

Honza Cervenka: 37.Rb7! was a lovely shot. But black's position was already precarious anyway. For example, 36...f6 37.Qg3 Rc6 38.h6 Qe7 39.Nxe6 +-, or 36...Nf5 37.Bxf5 exf5 38.h6 f6 39.Qg3 Rb8 40.Nd7!! +-

   Jan-02-26 A Elo vs Fischer, 1957

Honza Cervenka: 42.c4 was absolutely incomprehensible move giving black practical chance to play for win. 46.Kg3 was decisive mistake but it was just a logical consequence of the bad decision made four moves earlier.

   Jan-02-26 Goutham Krishna H vs A Tabatabaei, 2025 (replies)

Honza Cervenka: 30...Bxc4 was necessary. Black was badly spanked for his too passive approach to this game.

cu8sfan: I would have loved to vote for your beautiful baby but I just got back from vacation. Apparently my help was not needed. Congratulations to you both!
Mar-26-10  Karpova: Congratulations! Michael was a fierce opponent (btw., which chess site was supporting him?) but it was a clear and fully deserved win for Aneta in the end!
Mar-26-10  technical draw: I voted about 6 times for Aneta but now I have a little remorse. I wonder if bringing on the mighty power of Chessgames.com was fair. Unless (like Karpova asks) there was another chess site backing the main opponent.
Mar-26-10  whatthefat: Ah, they should have known better than to take on The World. That's another feather to our cap:

- Arno Nickel
- Yury Shulman
- Gert Jan Timmerman
- Michael the baby

SwitchingQuylthulg: <whatthefat> One major difference - where our chess team has often been bitter and divided with key contributors subject to attacks and insults after vocally supporting the other move, the team behind Aneta was truly united and worked seamlessly to achieve a common goal, any rifts between contributing members momentarily forgotten and left aside.

Domdaniel: Aneta Cervenkova -- congratulations and have a good life. Your parents are good people.

<Honza> I saw some of your interventions in the paper's debate. I wonder what kind of cyber-hinterland Baby Michael's parents had to call on ... do you know?

And should we keep voting for the monthly prize? It's a pleasure and an honour to vote for Aneta, as far as I'm concerned. And, tak, you have many other friends here too...

Mar-26-10  zanshin: <technical draw: I voted about 6 times for Aneta but now I have a little remorse. I wonder if bringing on the mighty power of Chessgames.com was fair. Unless (like Karpova asks) there was another chess site backing the main opponent.>

<TD> I wouldn't feel any remorse. I think <karpova> was joking about another chess site because it didn't have to be a chess site. It could have been a company, facebook group, eGroup, etc. etc. Their effort was also a concerted group effort and ours won. I don't think the voting site should have encouraged multiple votes, but it was clearly within the rules. As <Switch> said, we forgot our differences and worked for a common goal. Don't feel bad about it.

Mar-26-10  YouRang: <whatthefat: Ah, they should have known better than to take on The World. That's another feather to our cap:>

lol!

Yes, our worthy opponent was doomed from the start by going up against a bunch of chess players!

For us, it is nothing to vote, sit patiently for an hour, vote again, sit another hour, vote, ...

Mar-26-10  MostlyAverageJoe: <technical draw: I voted about 6 times for Aneta>

Slacker.

Mar-27-10  just a kid: Hi, I voted 5 times for Aneta
Mar-27-10  Gypsy: <Honzo> Z celeho srdce vam gratuluji k nadherne dceri! Ceka vas krasna doba v rodine: prvni kroky, prvni slova, rebelujici dvouleta certice, mlada zena, problemy zivota mezi kamaradkami, plavani, skola, sporty divadla a dalsi zajmove krouzky, ...

(... dal to zatim neznam. :-))

Blahopreji mamince k vitezstvi: At se vam vse stejne pekne a vtipne dari!!

Mar-29-10  Artar1: Dear <Honza>,

Wow! Congratulations on the birth of you new baby daughter, Aneta! I hope you and your wife are doing well. I am very happy for you. This is truly a big event in your life!

By the way, I voted and it looks like you won! Was the outcome ever in doubt?

Best regards,

Artar1

Honza Cervenka: Hi <keypusher> and all other friends of chess and Aneta!:-)

If you missed a chance to vote last time, you must not regret it as you have another opportunity right now! Today a poll for the most sympathetic baby of the March has started and it will continue till the next Friday, 12.00 CET. The rules are the same as they were the last time, i.e. it is possible to send one vote after every 60 minutes from one IP address. If you want to support Aneta, just click on http://kladensky.denik.cz/miminka/m..., flag the first name in the grey box on the right side of the screen and hit the <hlasovat> button below....:-)

Warm regards,
Honza

Apr-02-10  whatthefat: Okay, I hlasovated.

Domdaniel: I'm hlasovating like I never hlasovated before. Aneta's ahead now, but she's up against *twins*. Twins have a big cuteness factor.

Honza Cervenka: The voting starts quite slowly this time and I would say that the Easter is the main reason of it. Many people here are on holiday and off-line and so other contenders are not able to organize their supporters well or even they are not aware of the voting yet. But it can be changed quickly and especially Karel Tuma from Kladno, who is last now but who got just three weeks ago 767 votes in quiet race with practically no serious opposition, can be very dangerous rival once his supporters will wake up. And so vote early, vote often...:-D

Apr-03-10  amadeus: got hlasovat?

Domdaniel: Hlasovat for you, Morovic for me?

I must admit that the very idea of voting for new-born babies makes me want to ... well, there is, I think, a phrase in Czech: <Strc prst skrz krk>, 'stick a finger in your throat'.

But for a friend like Honza we put aside such futile prejudices. And Aneta *is* cute.

But it's good that she's named Aneta rather than Angelska or Grob or Najdorf. Hell hath no fury like CG voters fighting over an opening.

OK, back to the hlasovat mines.

Apr-03-10  dakgootje: Maybe 'to hlasovat' could become another official chess-word just like kibitzing and zugzwang. I propose with team challenges the vote-option is changed to hlasovat-option.

Maybe Karel would get more votes with a smiling-picture.

Honza Cervenka: Thanks for your support. Our lead is growing fluently so far as our opponents are still inactive. But nothing is decided as the end of voting is still far away and in past contests some babies got more than 5000 votes. It seems to be that Easter plays in our hands and that other babies' scarce support arrives mostly from occasional independent voters while their hardcore constituency is not yet aware of the contest. But I would be surprised if they would have not appeared in the poll at all. If they come on Monday or Tuesday even lead five times greater than that we have now can be insufficient in the end. So vote early and vote often!:-D

Thank you very much, Honza.

Apr-03-10  hms123: <Honza> I have cast about 20 votes so far and will continue through the week. How many cakes do you get this time?
