I live in Stredokluky (a village near Prague, Czech republic). I play both practical and correspondence chess. My rating in practical chess (Czech national ELO) oscillates somewhere between 2010 and 2060, in correspondence chess I have rating 2155 (my best was 2220 in the middle of 90's). I have no special favorite player but I like to view good games of old masters (Tarrasch, Schlechter, Chigorin etc.)

   Jan-09-26 J Cervenka vs P Kopta, 2026

Honza Cervenka: If 57...Ke4, then 58.Ke1! f3 59.Bg3 f2+ 60.Bxf2 exf2+ 61.Kxf2 +-

   Jan-07-26 Short vs Kramnik, 1996

Honza Cervenka: It looks like white forgot to insert 45.Bxg7+ with idea 45...Kh7 46.Qf4 +-. Or did he miss that after 46.Qh6+ black has 46...Qh7? Anyway, instead of 42...Bh6(?) black should have played 42...Qf5 43.Rh2 Bf4 with decisive attack. 41...Bxe3 was also inaccurate for eventual ...

Jan-06-26 Kramnik vs Short, 1995 (replies)

Honza Cervenka: Ugly 20...Bc8 was the only chance to avoid quick disaster, though white's advantage would be still great and probably decisive anyway.

   Jan-06-26 Capablanca vs Lasker, 1924

Honza Cervenka: <which begs the question if Honza was here on the 30th June why did he not wish me a happy birthday?> Mea culpa!

   Jan-06-26 Smyslov vs G Ilivitsky, 1952

Honza Cervenka: Instead of 14...Nd4 it was correct to play 14...gxf5. Also 15...gxf5 would have been a lesser evil. 16...Bxh6 was another mistake but the position of black was then bad anyway.

   Jan-06-26 T Luther vs O Touzane, 1990

Honza Cervenka: This is quite strange coincidence. But first 10 moves are just a standard opening line, and most of moves after black's three consecutive mistakes (14...Nd4, 15...Bxe4 and 16...Bxh6) are more or less forced or at least fairly obvious.

   Jan-05-26 A Pomar vs Hort, 1965

Honza Cervenka: Instead of 15.Nf6+ white should have played 15.Qxf7+ Kxf7 16.Ng5+ Kg8 17.Nxh3 exd4 18.Nxd4 Nxd4 19.exd4 Bxd4 20.Rb1 with roughly equal game.

   Jan-02-26 N Theodorou vs L Dominguez Perez, 2025 (replies)

Honza Cervenka: 37.Rb7! was a lovely shot. But black's position was already precarious anyway. For example, 36...f6 37.Qg3 Rc6 38.h6 Qe7 39.Nxe6 +-, or 36...Nf5 37.Bxf5 exf5 38.h6 f6 39.Qg3 Rb8 40.Nd7!! +-

   Jan-02-26 A Elo vs Fischer, 1957

Honza Cervenka: 42.c4 was absolutely incomprehensible move giving black practical chance to play for win. 46.Kg3 was decisive mistake but it was just a logical consequence of the bad decision made four moves earlier.

   Jan-02-26 Goutham Krishna H vs A Tabatabaei, 2025 (replies)

Honza Cervenka: 30...Bxc4 was necessary. Black was badly spanked for his too passive approach to this game.

Elen a Erik Volkovovi, Cvrčovice 131
Karel Tůma, Kladno 289
Viktorie Spilková, Vraný 153

Honza Cervenka: Many thanks to all of you for your support. This time we have won quite easily due to surprisingly low turnout, which was caused probably by time collision of the poll's beginning with Easter. Try to compare this with February (http://kladensky.denik.cz/miminka/m...) and especially January (http://kladensky.denik.cz/miminka/m...) polls to see the striking difference. There you can see also two of our future opponents in great final. It will be no cakewalk to beat them in Jauary 2011 and as the last year final poll's result suggests (see http://kladensky.denik.cz/miminka/m...), it will be necessary to get some 10,000 votes at least for win, if not much more. So be ready...:-D
Apr-09-10  achieve: <Honza> You are a tyrant, a despot perhaps, but nothing will keep us from winning.

WINNING!!!

I hope so!:-D

Btw, for info on forthcoming contest see my profile.

Apr-10-10  achieve: Ah, thanks - that first round I soon got "mildly obsessive", but I was not alone... I'll be ready for the Grand Finale! :)

OhioChessFan: I think the advertising rates for a month on Chessgames.com are very reasonable. Maybe an ad for Aneta on the homepage a week or two before the vote would help get the word out.

As one of the strong players on this website I hope you will share your opinions on what White should play on move 11 in the match with Natalia Pogonina.

Thanks.

Oct-14-10  imag: <Honza Cervenka>

Hello, I just wanted to ask your opinion about a plan in the match with Natalia Pogonina.

In this position

(note that we exchanged our DSB), what do you think of preventing Black's c5 by playing c5.

Is it positionally wrong or is it acceptable? How would you proceed as Black?

Engines don't like this line at first, but then slowly start to understand the idea. The engine-preferred line goes:

17...bxc5 18. dxc5 a5 19. a3 Qc7 20. exd5 Nxd5 21. Re1 Rb8 22. Ne5 Ba6 23. f4 Qb7 24. Rb1

Would you say that White is better in the above position? Thanks in advance.

Oct-14-10  imag: <Honza> Today GM Pogonina played 15...Bxf6 and not Nxf6 as I predicted so the position from my last post is not going to happen. Sorry for troubling you.

Honza Cervenka: Hello, dear friends! The year 2010 is coming to its end and the poll for the baby of the year is near. I have just updated the list of already known candidates in my profile. A baby of December is not known yet and the poll is still not running (I guess it will start this Friday) and so we have at least one week to prepare our voting campaign for the great final. As you can see, our Aneta's opponents are pretty hard competition. Two of them got more than six thousand votes in their polls for the baby of the month. Of course, your assistance is much welcomed and needed...:-)

OhioChessFan: The only way to get 6000 votes is by utilizing social networking sites like Facebook and Tweeter. I don't happen to participate in either, but that's how to get the mass vote out. You definitely need to get <Mostly Average Joe> involved.
Dec-31-10  wordfunph: <OCH> Happy New Year!

  WannaBe: Dear Honza,

I am pleased, and honoured, to present to you, the 2010 Caissar Award for Life Time Achievement Award.

This category, is strictly decided, solely by me, (it's good to be the Roi, no?!) and after careful research, and looking back at past records, I have decided that this award, for 2010, should be awarded to you.

Hearty congratulations, and we/I look forward to many many more years of contribution from you.

(However, since this is a Life Time Award, and you will never ever win it again, you can now be lazy and do nothing! =)

December poll for the baby of the month will close this Friday at 12.00 CET and the great final can start anytime after that.   Honza Cervenka: Call for Aneta’s voters! Vote early, vote often!

Dear chess friends! Great final poll of regional daily KLADENSKY DENIK for the most sympathetic baby of year 2010 has started and my little girl needs your support again. The poll is running since January 22, 12.00 CET, till February 5, 12.00 CET. The rules are the same as the last time, i.e. it is possible to send one vote after every 60 minutes from one IP address. If you want to support Aneta, just click on http://kladensky.denik.cz/miminka/m..., flag the name <Aneta Èervenková> in the grey box on the right side of the screen and hit the <hlasovat> button below. If you see a notification “Dìkujeme za váš hlas” (Thank you for your vote) after that, then you have voted successfully. And if you see a notification “Došlo k opakovanému hlasování” (Repeated voting has occurred), then you should try to vote a bit later again....:-D

Thanks for your support!
