I live in Stredokluky (a village near Prague, Czech republic). I play both practical and correspondence chess. My rating in practical chess (Czech national ELO) oscillates somewhere between 2010 and 2060, in correspondence chess I have rating 2155 (my best was 2220 in the middle of 90's). I have no special favorite player but I like to view good games of old masters (Tarrasch, Schlechter, Chigorin etc.)

   Jan-07-26 Short vs Kramnik, 1996

Honza Cervenka: It looks like white forgot to insert 45.Bxg7+ with idea 45...Kh7 46.Qf4 +-. Or did he miss that after 46.Qh6+ black has 46...Qh7? Anyway, instead of 42...Bh6(?) black should have played 42...Qf5 43.Rh2 Bf4 with decisive attack. 41...Bxe3 was also inaccurate for eventual ...

Jan-06-26 Kramnik vs Short, 1995 (replies)

Honza Cervenka: Ugly 20...Bc8 was the only chance to avoid quick disaster, though white's advantage would be still great and probably decisive anyway.

   Jan-06-26 Capablanca vs Lasker, 1924

Honza Cervenka: <which begs the question if Honza was here on the 30th June why did he not wish me a happy birthday?> Mea culpa!

   Jan-06-26 Smyslov vs G Ilivitsky, 1952

Honza Cervenka: Instead of 14...Nd4 it was correct to play 14...gxf5. Also 15...gxf5 would have been a lesser evil. 16...Bxh6 was another mistake but the position of black was then bad anyway.

   Jan-06-26 T Luther vs O Touzane, 1990

Honza Cervenka: This is quite strange coincidence. But first 10 moves are just a standard opening line, and most of moves after black's three consecutive mistakes (14...Nd4, 15...Bxe4 and 16...Bxh6) are more or less forced or at least fairly obvious.

   Jan-05-26 A Pomar vs Hort, 1965

Honza Cervenka: Instead of 15.Nf6+ white should have played 15.Qxf7+ Kxf7 16.Ng5+ Kg8 17.Nxh3 exd4 18.Nxd4 Nxd4 19.exd4 Bxd4 20.Rb1 with roughly equal game.

   Jan-02-26 N Theodorou vs L Dominguez Perez, 2025 (replies)

Honza Cervenka: 37.Rb7! was a lovely shot. But black's position was already precarious anyway. For example, 36...f6 37.Qg3 Rc6 38.h6 Qe7 39.Nxe6 +-, or 36...Nf5 37.Bxf5 exf5 38.h6 f6 39.Qg3 Rb8 40.Nd7!! +-

   Jan-02-26 A Elo vs Fischer, 1957

Honza Cervenka: 42.c4 was absolutely incomprehensible move giving black practical chance to play for win. 46.Kg3 was decisive mistake but it was just a logical consequence of the bad decision made four moves earlier.

   Jan-02-26 Goutham Krishna H vs M A Tabatabaei, 2025 (replies)

Honza Cervenka: 30...Bxc4 was necessary. Black was badly spanked for his too passive approach to this game.

   Dec-29-25 K Tsarouhas vs X Mastalerz, 2016 (replies)

Honza Cervenka: <goodevans><I reckon Black actually played <58...Rf4?>> It looks quite plausible. And the continuation making most sense could be 58...Rf4 59.h7 Kg7 60.h8=Q+ Kxh8 61.Kg6 Kg8 62.c6 Rf2 63.c7 Rg2+ 64.Kf6 Rc2 65.Rxa2 Rc6+ 66.Kg5 Rxc7 etc. In this line 61.Kg6 ...

Jan-25-11  chesstoplay: < higherlevel > How much for 15,000 votes?

But... must be legal!!!!

Paypal is fine for me -- I might foot the bill if it is real and legal.

Your problem is that I'd only pay after the votes appear.

Jan-26-11  higherlevel: Of course this is legal!!! Because this is one rule 1x ip per hour. I offered for Honza Cervenka not for you, but if you can sent 15thousand votes it will be 20$.I send 3000 and you pay after 10$ then 8T you pay 5$ etc. PS Jakub Rudek had 50votes and for now he have 3000votes per night!

Honza Cervenka: Call for Aneta’s voters! Vote early, vote often!

The situation has changed quite dramatically in last two days after arrival of the second main favourite (at least according to statistics of previous rounds posted above in my profile) Jakub Rudek. Once again we see huge mass of votes coming in at one moment, which indicates quite clearly voting machine sending votes via list of available proxy servers. This is extraordinary situation, which calls for extraordinary means! <higherlevel>, can you contact me by e-mail jan.cervenka@soc.cas.cz, please? I am also looking for a few volunteers around the globe willing to devote an hour or two a day to sending of votes manually via a list of proxy servers, which I can provide.

Honza Cervenka: <OCF> I am in very difficult position here. I have persuaded many people to send us votes and they were doing it regularly with great enthusiasm at the beginning but now they see that we have no chance against automatic bulk voting by Rudek, Loukota and Veverka and they are losing interest. I spent three nights in row by trying to keep pace of our voting with Loukota's machine but I cannot do it for 24 hours a day. And with Rudek's five thousand votes per day I cannot compete at all. It is just physically impossible to send manually so many votes alone, even when using proxy servers.

OhioChessFan: I meant, don't believe that someone can send 3000 votes a day for you if you pay them.

OhioChessFan: It is obvious to me that the leader can manipulate the vote total at will. I expected to see what is in fact happening now: Take a big lead, and then stop the vote machine so that it doesn't get too far out of hand. Right now 9:30 PM EST, there are 10,939 votes for Jakub R. That hasn't budged in the past hour and I expect it won't for some time. But let anyone catch up a little and you'll see the votes skyrocket again. I think I'd let someone have the win if they want it that bad.
Jan-27-11  chesstoplay: < Honza >,

< I am in very difficult position here. >

But you are not alone!! I voted 10 times yesterday, for example.

I suggest that you personally go to the main thread of the World Team game and ask for help there.

< OCF > and I have carried the ball there for you.

Maybe if you directly -- and repeatedly -- make the request, you will see more of your chess friends step in and step up.

Please know that you have many friends here!!

Aneta is a sweet girl and she is lucky to have such a fine father!!

Best of luck... and remember, the battle is not over just yet.

OhioChessFan: So for 2 1/2 hours there hasn't been ONE VOTE for the leader. Not one. I'm shocked some idle voter hasn't cast a vote. And yet there still sits 10,939 votes generated in 3 days? That person clearly has the capability of running a vote total of 30,000. But for appearance's sake, they have shut down their voting mechanism, whatever it is. I think there is simply no beating that machine. I wouldn't mind at all if nobody voted for any of the candidates and the winner's total stayed at 10,939 for the next week.
Jan-27-11  chesstoplay: < OCF>

I saw that, too, when I voted at 10 PM CST USA.

Honza Cervenka: <I meant, don't believe that someone can send 3000 votes a day for you if you pay them.> In principle it is possible and in fact not very difficult for someone knowing something about computers. Sending votes via a huge list of public proxy servers is one and very simple way to do it. Unfortunatelly, I don't know how to program the comp to do it automatically, but anybody with basic knowledge on this field can do it easily.

tpstar: <Honza Cervenka> 1) Congratulations on the successful birth of your child! The miracle of life is always top priority, and give thanks for a healthy daughter.

2) The massive voting swings over the last few days indicate the contest is rigged. In that context, I believe you are spending too much time trying to gain votes the "old" way.

3) Please remember that many posters view these online polls as exercises in vanity only, and somewhat distasteful.

Best wishes to you and your family. =)

Jan-31-11  higherlevel: Guys, I called to Honza Cervenka and I explained that is no problem add plus 100thousand of votes, but here is morality problem. I voted for Alex, but when i saw Rudek and Veverkas that they for 10minutes add 800votes I resign. As Honza sad that is the challenge, but not for me.

Feb-03-11  chesstoplay: Hi Honza,

I just cast vote # 6846 (2/3/2011 1:50 PM CST USA).

My goal is to get Aneta over 7,000 votes.

You will always be able to tell her that she had the most friends world wide that were actually casting votes.

She will always know how respected her father was (is)!

You will be able to let her know that one good friend is better than many machines making other machines do electronic chores.

You are a good father, husband and friend to the World Team.

Oh, and by the way, you will also be able to tell Aneta that she had by far the prettiest baby photo!!

Finally, by my tally, Aneta wins becase she has you as a Dad.

Be well, my friend, and bring peace and joy to your daughter's life
