 | | chancho: <SugarDom> No, that's Batsford's 2008 reprint of Bobby's original book: http://www.chessclub.com/mailing/20... |
| Aug-12-09 | | JustToClarify: Hey, guys, remember this article:
http://web.archive.org/web/20080129... And remember how Trice used to talk about how the reporter wouldn't publish anything unless it was verified by three sources blah blah blah? Not true.
The article talks about how Gothic Chess is "Trice-patented". The reporter did not do his homework; this article was published in early 2008 and the reporter didn't look up the patent to discover that, by this time, the patent was expired. |

 | | chancho: When that Russian business guy Alex Titomirov showed up with Spassky in Iceland with a proposal for Fischer to play his own chess variant in a match, the news appeared on Icelandic TV, Chessbase, etc. Basically it was whatever you want Bobby.
He refused. Then the next year along comes Trice and the Gothic Chess proposal. Fischer had refused to play his favorite variant, but wanted to play an obscure one? Oh oh, this doesn't many any freaking sense.
For a 15 million dollar event, the best publicity it received, was a mention on Polgar's blog, Dan Heisman's weekly show on the Internet Chess Club's chess FM radio station, (which probably reached about 100 people at most) and a clipping in the Philadelphia Inquirer. A penny ante operation, if there ever was one! |
| Aug-12-09 | | JustToClarify: The $15 million Gothic Chess match got more press attention than that. Andy Soltis also mentioned it: http://www.nypost.com/seven/1029200... OK, between the single local newspaper article, the Andy Soltis mention, Polgar mentioning it in her blog, and, oh, Trice going on and on and on and on about it, the proposed tournament had a little notability. A very little. |
| Aug-12-09 | | Jim Bartle: And even Soltis shows Trice to be a liar in his kibitzing, referring to the "contract" with Karpov as an "informal agreement." |
| Aug-12-09 | | Travis Bickle: <robmtchl: Trice may start with "gothic checkers" on a 10x8 board. Has he tried to "patent" that yet?> Maybe Trice will add an arch-Bishop and a couple more squares to the game Stratego and call it Gothic Stratego LOL! |
| Aug-12-09 | | Travis Bickle: Here's a theory. Trice with his scheme already in place recruits his Boy Wonder Joshka, then makes a pitch of his scheme to IM Day (maybe he needed the cash), to write the text of M61MG's and share the computer analysis duties with Day. Meanwhile little Josh makes psychic announcements of a New Fischer bootleg book! |
| Aug-12-09 | | Jim Bartle: I know you're joking, Travis, but I think Joshka and Day are telling the truth as they see it. I just think they're blinded to some important facts. |
| Aug-12-09 | | MageOfMaple: Wow, you do try to see the best in people, <JB>. And it might be true of Day, but no way that's the case for Joshka. <Joshka: Why don't you write to a certain publishing company in Europe, that confiscated the remaining stock about two months ago.........they have thousands of copies......> He then refused to explain that obvious load of bull. |
| Aug-12-09 | | Jim Bartle: Yes, I'll agree that Joshka is being evasive. Look back a couple of pages where I tried fruitlessly to pin him down on a couple of his claims. So I'll just say I think Joshka at the very least thought the book was written by Fischer at the very beginning. He's got to know he was wrong now. As I said about Day earlier, I think they're both acting like Trice's defense attorneys, the type who never ask their clients if they're guilty. |
| Aug-14-09 | | robmtchl: Quiet here the past few days. No news is good news! |
| Aug-17-09 | | robmtchl: < Joshka: <grave doubt> by whom?....in the chess community, as you say?....name a titled player who has read the book, and says it's forged??......we have IM Larry Day who will stand by the book's authenticity....score 1-0....wanna give your negative author's assessment??> WHy don't you give us a number to call to buy a copy... other than Ed Trice. Maybe someone will. "The Publisher" has not made gratis copies available to reviewers for assessment.Bruce, please step back into the light. Don't play Vader to Trice's evil Emeperor. And why did Trice lie about the book store at the World Open selling the book? Simple question. Simple answer? |
| Aug-17-09 | | Colonel Mortimer: The balance of evidence presented, in the most part conspicuous by its absence, would lead a reasonably minded person to the objective conclusion that the book in question is likely fraudulent and that those few, who still entertain the notion that it was written by Fisher's hand, must now entertain the thought that they have very likely been duped if they are not otherwise undeterred from the fantastically mind bending voyage of credulity upon which their hearts has embarked them in search of the ever mythical high priest of chess, Bobby Fischer. |
| Aug-18-09 | | robmtchl: Susan Polgar denies under oath that she never had any business dealings with Trice. http://groups.google.com/group/rec.... |
| Aug-18-09 | | Travis Bickle: In all fairness I must say that I seen a photo of Susan Polgar sitting down with Ed Trice playing Gothic Chess. She reported on her chess blog that supposedly a match was to take place between Karpov and Fischer. Plus she was named as a replacement player if Fischer backed out of the deal. However I dont see the logic in her being a big enough draw to replace Fischer with what Trice said was a 15 million dollar pay day! Maybe Garry Kasparov instead of Fischer but not Polgar. I think Susan was duped into believing the lies of E.T. |
| Aug-18-09 | | MageOfMaple: <robmtchl> I assume you mean "Susan Polgar denies under oath that she EVER had any business dealings with Trice" |
