Aug-20-09  capatal: <robmtchl: Trice's personal forum was removed when he let his membership lapse>

Ed may have had a slight cash flow problem,(book overstock?). He's currently raising the $25 membership fee... And playing a little 'Gothic Solitaire'.

Aug-20-09  robmtchl: He may be gone for good. I cannot locate a link to play gothic chess online at his site anymore and most of the links go to dead pages. I wonder if his email and his phone still work?
Aug-22-09  whiteshark: GM Karsten Mueller wrote in his recent column (dd August 19 2009) at chesscafe.com:

quote

To which Charles Sullivan comments: “So yes, it certainly seems appropriate to say that <"My 61 Memorable Games" (which cannot be bought in a store and which might not be by Fischer)> contains one drawing line from Endgame Corner #100 and also the new 57.Rh7 Ra8! drawing idea.”

<> inserted by me for highlighting.

Aug-24-09  PinnedPiece: Chessgames reports that (in effect) <Ed Trice> still has edit authority over his player page.

Ed Trice

Since his player page contains some revealing comments, it might be wise for anyone concerned to shift the post here, as I did a couple weeks ago from Trice's chessforum.

Aug-25-09  robmtchl: I cant even see his chess forum anymore. I see comments on games, but I dont think he can edit those.( 'cause all of my posts are still there)
Aug-25-09  whiskeyrebel: He's obviously had to develop another sales plan. Maybe he's on the road trying to sell them to mom and pop stores and gullible chess dorks a couple at a time. If you live here in the U.S., don't be surprised if he visits your chess club, lurking, looking for a sap or two to exploit.
Aug-26-09  whiteshark: <whiskeyrebel: He's obviously had to develop another sales plan.> My thoughts exactly! And then the following pooped up: http://chessbase.com/newsdetail.asp...
Aug-26-09  percyblakeney: Vaughan of the above press release seems to have played in a tournament ten years ago, performing Elo 2017, so he would probably have found it difficult to win those matches against Fischer and Kasparov...

Aug-26-09  whiskeyrebel: This Stan guy must be busy, he's also a christian minister and aspiring politician. www.sheepfinders.com/food.asp
Aug-26-09  technical draw: New in Chess magazine has an interesting article about the sale of Bobby Fischer's collection of books, manuscripts and documents. Everything was sold at auction for, yes, $61,000.

I will see if I can get permission to reproduce the article here.

Aug-26-09  PinnedPiece: <TD> This story is quoted and discussed on the Fischer forum. Good post by <timhorton> (he tells me that's his favorite Canadian donut, btw) who quoted part of an earlier article about the sale.

Robert James Fischer

Aug-26-09  PinnedPiece: ....btw you'll have to take people (like lamont) off ignore to get that link to bring up the correct post...

.

Aug-27-09  technical draw: <PinnedPiece> Thanks for that info. Any way I wanted to reproduce the whole article but the editors said no.
Aug-27-09  technical draw: BTW I don't have anyone on ignore.
Sep-08-09  robmtchl: Trice is still hiding! Over a month since his last post! 9/8/09 and all -is- well!
Sep-09-09  JustToClarify: Rob:

I hope Trice doesn't come back on the internet, but, if he does, I will be by your side tearing his lies apart and cutting him down.

We have won and Trice, wisely, is no longer harassing and scamming people on the internet.

As long as he stays off the internet, I am willing to leave him alone.

Sep-09-09  PinnedPiece: Scheduled for future release:

"My 61 Memorable Days with Fischer"
-:subhead :-
"How I got checkmated by the greatest master of all time"

On the cover it will say Ed Trice but I'm sure he will deny being the author.

Here is a discussion site that ground to a halt fairly quickly, despite biggsjason442's dire prediction on July 6, 2009.

http://z3.invisionfree.com/TheFisch...

.

Sep-10-09  JustToClarify: Some points:

* Ed Trice hasn't edited the Wikipedia since January 31, 2009

* He hasn't been here on Chessgames.com since August 4, 2009

* He hasn't posted to the "Fischer Book" InvisionFree forum since July 24, 2009

* He hasn't posted to the Gothic Chess InvisionFree forum since July 27, 2009

* He hasn't posted to the Gothic Chess blog since February 1, 2009

* He only posted to the Ed Trice blog once, on March 23, 2009

So, Trice, as far as I can tell, hasn't done anything on the internet since August 4, 2009.

I will leave Trice alone until he comes back to the internet and engages in his old behavior.

Sep-18-09  DrCurmudgeon: To anyone who has studied hoaxes and scams, both pre- and post-Internet, it's obvious this book is a fake. One classic sympton is that it is promoted by a person who, uanble to achieve notoriety in a field in the usual ways, devises a story just to gain attention.

It's also inevitable that people of normally good judgment and intellect will fall for the scam. If a person really wants to believe in something, heart trumps head every time.

Oct-04-09  PinnedPiece: <devises a story just to gain attention.>

One of the more curious aspects of this story, not noted very often, but to me of great importance, is the time difference between first announcement (Dec, 2007) and first appearance (Dec, 2008) Robert James Fischer .

Perhaps it started as a pure scam, and then due to the goading of disbelievers, it became a mission to actually PRODUCE a book, at which point it became a full-fledged hoax.

.

Oct-06-09  MageOfMaple: And what will that post goad him into?

Assuming you're correct, additional discussion only serves to spur on more illicit behavior. Perhaps it's best to let sleeping dogs lie.

Oct-08-09  JonDSouzaEva: Perhaps. But mad dogs should be put to sleep.

Oct-08-09  SugarDom: Onepac Tupac Thricepac....
Nov-11-09  JustToClarify: OK, since no has posted here for a month: Mr. Trice, I'm glad you're not disgracing the Internet with your presence. Do the world the favor and don't come back.

Don't try to promote Gothic Chess. Don't try selling land on Mars. Don't try promoting the Fischer book. Don't come up with some new scam. If you do, we will find you and ridicule you again.
