offramp: I really loved this cracking joke, on the Lev Polugaevsky page:

<TugasKamagong: I kinda hope the Polish GM Grzegorz Gajewski will produce a son he'll name Paulo. Seems to me "Paulo Gajewski" would be pronounced very much like "Polugaevsky.>

Is that not great?

tpstar: From a Wesley So interview:

Q: What are your best and your worst memories regarding chess?

A: My worst memories are of some people, and best are to get away from these people.

offramp: This may be an old one but I found out funny and I've never heard it before. It's from Nakamura's page:

<bobthebob:
"The problem with the internet is that it is difficult to have confidence in the accuracy of quotes". Abraham Lincoln>

  OhioChessFan: < MarkFinan: Well I won 22 cb's today! >

<Penguincw: Me too, I won 19 cbs today... >

Jun-16-15  shivasuri4: <lost in space: Too easy for a Thursday>

<Gregor Samsa Mendel: Um, <lost in space>, you appear to be lost in time as well.>

On the Tuesday Puzzle of the Day (J Aabling-Thomsen vs J Van der Meer, 2005).

offramp: Here is another good one:

<Penguincw: According to my research using this site, with Anand's win over Carlsen, he does something no one has ever done in 27 years. First time since 1988 that the challenger beats the champion in classical time controls in the very year following their WCC match (undisputed), not including any other WCC games.

Karpov vs Kasparov, 1988

Hopefully I'm not missing anything...>

Jun-20-15  MarkFinan: <bobthebob: Dribbling a ball well and not scoring is like castling and not checkmating. Big deal>

I have no words.

Jun-27-15  shivasuri4: <Edmontonchessclub: For one day, this tournament which I organized was the strongest chess tournament in the world.

Curse you, Dortmund! :)>

10th Edmonton International (2015)

offramp: I thought this was a good one:

D M Martinez vs Steinitz, 1883 :

This is the preamble:
<TheFocus: This is match game 3 of a match played in 1883. The match is not known or shown in Sid Pickard's <The Games of Wilhelmina Steinitz>...>

This was soon followed by the memorable:

<TheFocus: That should be Wilhelmina and not Wilhelmina.>

Aug-10-15  TheFocus: Yeah. Stupid auto-correct and my poor editing skills.

And I cannot delete posts with this phone.

offramp: I really liked this one:

<<Pulo y Gata: <SL: I apologize in advance for the pompous or condescending tone of this post, but due to the subject matter involved, it just can't be helped> You are pompous and condescending, and no, you are not forgiven.>

I won't give a link; it might be deleted anyway, and I don't want SL to be traceable. He said NOTHING wrong, it was only the response which I found funny.

offramp: This one is not by a kibitzer (although he might be a member) but I thought it was superb.

It is by Anish Giri and he is referring a game from round 1 of the Sinquefield Cup (2015), Carlsen vs Topalov, 2015.

<"My wife knew about 7...g5 in that Sicilian, I don't know why Carlsen didn't.">

This may simply be a statement of fact or it might be a dig, but either way it shows Giri's sense of brilliant sense of humour.

WannaBe: Gotta put this one into the Time Capsule. Just couldn't resist.

The background, is discussion of Trump running in 2016 for the next Presidential Election:

Kenneth Rogoff

Aug-27-15  MarkFinan: <Chess is more : Madonna is bigger than the Beatles>

I have no words.

offramp: This is an old one, regarding Ilia Abramovich Kan.

<Knight13> made this reasonable comment about Kan: <Remember that he was also a lawyer. And not everyone can pull off a time-consuming full-time job and chess at the same time and still reach the top.>

<Marmot PFL> made a comment about 1950s Soviet courts:

<What did a lawyer in the Soviet Union have to do, besides remembering his lines?>

Good one!

Aug-27-15  MarkFinan: There's some brilliant quotes here from back in the day, before I joined. Most of them are from a certain AJ Goldsby I, I think he should get a medal for accidental HUMOUR!!!!

Lol.

offramp: An interesting comment ending in a charming tribute to a great master from Karpov vs Korchnoi, 1986

<Plaskett: Neither of the players (and they had by then competed in what in effect were the succeeding THREE matches for the World Championship) knew whether the resultant Q VS R + Bishop´s Pawn on the fifth rank position which could have followed 54...Rxg5 55 c8=Q was winning. In fact, following 55...Ke5, it is drawn. Six years earlier I saw a critical variation arise in the post mortem of Korchnoi Vs Nunn in London with Korchnoi having two Knights Vs a Pawn. Neither GM knew the correct result.

<A spectating Quinteros commented, "Larsen maybe know.">>

offramp: A quote by Artur Yusupov, given by User: Tomlinsky:

"The problem with the Dutch is that Black very often in the middlegame finds that his best available move is f5-f7."

Sep-13-15  Chess Is More: <"The problem with the Dutch is that Black very often in the middlegame finds that his best available move is f5-f7.">

f5-f7 is not an available move. The pawns can never go back..

Sep-13-15  Everett: <Chess Is More: <"The problem with the Dutch is that Black very often in the middlegame finds that his best available move is f5-f7."> f5-f7 is not an available move. The pawns can never go back..>

Are you sure about that?

Sep-13-15  Chess Is More: Haha, you got me there, <everett>!
Sep-14-15  TheFocus: Truthfully, you can never go back.

And if you do, have an iron-clad alibi.

Sep-14-15  TheFocus: Or an albino to take the blame.
