 | | offramp: Thanks to <Ulhumbrus> for this interesting comment, at Svidler vs Topalov, 2015 (kibitz #1). <Ulhumbrus: After 15 Kh1 we have a Maroczy bind against a Hedgehog formation, an opening formation which has been played for decades.
We may assume that both Topalov and Svidler know of all the resources to both play for and to avoid. Then what will the result be? Tigran Petrosian may have indicated an answer when he says <The methods of positional play grow finer each year. Knowing them it is possible even in a well known opening to make a real fight>> Thanks, in fact to both Ulhumbrus and TP. |

This is good humour, with an eternal twist of thruth. > Thanks, moronovich! I meant <seems>, not seem, of course. My previous entry, a quote about a vanishing chess player, comes up as <404 FILE NOT FOUND>. The correct link is Albin Planinc (kibitz #145) and begins thus:
<The entry for GM Albin Planinc on the Chess Network Company's website features a photograph purported as depicting Mr. P. playing Black at a chess tournament against an undepicted opponent in Athens in 1993. (This photograph has been reproduced with the same attribution on at least one other website.) Here's the link:http://www.chessnc.com/biography/pe....
The digital image bears no identifying metadata.
Note the flags. It appears the player in this photograph has been allotted the Yugoslavian flag, and his undepicted opponent playing White has been allotted the Bulgarian flag. (Greek flags do proliferate beside other tables.) My understanding, which is primitive, is that the Yugoslavian flag ceased to be flown or displayed officially after 1992. I don't believe the flag shown here beside the depicted player ever to have been the Slovenian flag, but of course I may be wrong in this regard. However, perhaps the tournament organizers were simply allotting the flags they had on hand....> There is more, and it is followed by an interesting discussion. Well worth seeing! |

An oddity and curious contrast is that Giri's massive bio fails to mention his marriage, yet Guramishvili's bio is scant and noted for its extreme paucity in that the only item mentioned is her marriage to Giri! lol> LOL indeed! Great comment. It's just superb! |
