<Format>:

[player]-[player] [result] [# of MOVES]

==4 Different Scoring Methods==

Standard Moves Ranker (1st place-Over[3pts], 1st place-Under [7pts], Exact [10pts])

Bonus Ranker (3rd place-Over[1pts],2nd place-Over[2pts],3rd place-Under [5pts], 2nd place-Under [6pts]

Standard Moves/Bonus Ranker [Add all to together]

1st place Ranker [how many 1st place you have in Standard Moves Ranker]

For example:

<Note: Participants 3, 4, and 5 are predicated on nobody scoring an exact as Participant 2 did. If someone hits an exact, the closest score under and over will score the points for second place.>

Actual Game: [player]-[player] 0-1 45

Participant 1: [player]-[player] 1/2 45
Participant 2: [player]-[player] 0-1 45
Participant 3: [player]-[player] 0-1 44
Participant 4: [player]-[player] 0-1 43
Participant 5: [player]-[player] 0-1 46

Participant 1: No points even though 45 is correct. Results must be correct. If Result is wrong and moves # is correct...you get no points whatsoever

Participant 2: 10 pts rewarded for correct Result/moves #

Participant 3: 7 pts rewarded for closest under (1st-Under) to 45 moves

Participant 4: 6 pts rewarded for the 2nd closest under (2nd-Under) to 45 moves.

Participant 5: 3 pts rewarded closest OVER(1st-OVER) to 45 moves.

Again, the description of Participant 3, 4, and 5 are based on there being no exact prediction as made by Participant 2.

<IF> there is an exact or an under closest, the highest scoring over participant will be 2nd over. The second closest over will be 3rd over. The <ONLY> time there will be a first over is if there is no exact or under winner.

  WannaBe: <OhioChessFan> You mean FENs??

lower case letter is black, prnbqk
upper case letter is white, PRNBQK

/ separate ranks, so you would have 7 /'s. Numbers represent empty space(s). And you're always going from black 8th to white 1st rank.

So, at the start of the game, (I am going to use - instead of / in examples)

and now, after your standard Ruy...

There are web-sites/Fritz/Shredder that allows you to 'place' pieces on the board and give you a FEN representation. But I still do it the traditional way. :-)

WannaBe: I remembered that you asked about ECO code in the search a while back.

Beside entering one ECO, you can put in a range of ECOs in that box (on the home page.)

Say you want to see all the Sicilian Dragons, you put in B70-B79 and it will return you all the games.

OhioChessFan: I mentioned on another forum my thoughts about the Kennedy assasination and why I think the conspiracy theories are nonsense. I'll repeat that post here.

1. Most of the book writers are plain liars trying to make a buck off a tragedy.

2. Many of the early conspiracy theorists were virulent communists/Marxists trying to deflect attention away from Oswald's own Socialist views and the resulting effect on his motive.

3. Selective use of testimony from witnesses is an absolute canard. To dissect part of a person's testimony when it hurts your case, but accept at face value anything that helps your case, is innately dishonest.

4. Occam's Razor is worthy of great consideration.

OhioChessFan: At least my puzzle of March 28 was discussed at the Kibitzer's Cafe. Na8 is the strange looking first move. The rest plays itself.
Apr-01-06  Jim Bartle: On Kennedy: I read the book "Case Closed," by Gerald Posner, which was thorough, and convincing to me.

Claims Oswald was totally alienated, had the chance to shoot from his place of work, and did. Ruby was a hanger-on nutcase--a wannabe--who idolized Kennedy.

He thinks the Warren Commission came to the right conclusion despite bad behavior and cover-ups by the FBI and CIA which made it all look extremely suspicious. Posner just demolishes one conspiracy theory after another. Of course it'll likely never be "case closed," but this book is pretty convincing.

<Jim Bartle> Bingo! That book changed my life. In fact, that was why I pretty much quit spending so much time studying the assasination. I do think the police purposely allowed Ruby into the garage, but don't think they had a clue he'd shoot Oswald.

Richard Taylor: <OhioFan> - a friend of mine's son is a fan of Elvis and basically impersonates him -he is pretty good - he is intellectually challenged but has quite some talent singing. Not a great fan of Elvis - but I do like his songs (his singing) - BTW I have "The Death of Elvis" for sale on Trade Me right now - google Trade Me - New Zealand and then look up me - seller - "tamasin" (that is my daughter's name)

if I have nothing on I'll relist it soon - and other books. I have also sold books on the Kennedys.

Richard Taylor: I dont think the conspiracy theorists were communists (or not very 'switched on' ones in any case - I've met many who are certainly not commnunists)) - my book on Oswald I sold showed Oswald to be somewhat disturbed and my belief is he was the killer -it always has been although I have seen docus on the assassination and BTW I remember it -I was in NZ but it had dramatic effect here - Communists - or most of them or the more intelligent Maxists are generally fairly skeptical - the problem they (I) see is not that Oswald had been to the USSR etc but that the theories were so numerous that it meant that everyone (many different people had a number of reasons -often diametrically opposed - form the Right and the Left) to assassinate Kenndy - right down to those who would do it just to get into the history books - one Roman Emporer was assassinated for that reason - that said the Kennedys had a few skeletons and Kennedy continued the inquitous (savage and illegal and immoral) war gainst the Vietnamese...but I dont think he was assassinated by anyone who was actully an intelligent Marixst - Oswald was bright and a marksman (and knew quite a bit about Russia (he lived there an married a Russian girl as you of course will know)) and Marxism - but I dont think he was very deeply understanding of Marxism)) but/and he operated alone. (Acted more like an anarchist I think) -

I dont think I would be concerned (shocked?) if Bush was assassinated as I was in 1963 but Kennedy at the time seemed -well different I was only 15 - he had a lot of 'bad' aspects but some genuine qualities also. These I dont see in Bush. Alhough I dont like Bush (or his group of rightwingers he works with) he does have some charisma - but he has nothing on the Kennedys.

<Richard Taylor> The earliest, most shrill ones were. The Dallas Housewives group I think were just ordinary citizens.

Richard Taylor: But you realise surely that conspiracy theorists are from all "camps" and in fact conspiracies do occur all the time - Julius Caesar was assassinated because of a conspircy of senators and others. Then Mark Antony and Augustus Caeasr and Cicero were involved in conspiracies and stuggles until the Triumvirate was formed -then finally -after Lepidus was assassinated I think - Mark Anthony was defeated by Augustus - but he got to enjoy Cleopatra!

BTW I believe that GM Larry Christiansen is very interested in the Kennedy conspiracy arguments...

I suspect 9/11 was a conspircy organised by the Right Wing in the US -that said there are many "untied ends" and arguments for and against like the Kennedy situation - but peopel ask why it would be done - one purpose would be to make sure power was kept (as by siting 9/11 anti-terrorism laws can and are now used throughout the world basically by the right wing (it helps keep people in a state of fear and in agreement with their Government) - but terrorism itself kills fewer people that get killed by dog bites - and to galvanise people for war as the Gulf War (e.g.) was pretty pathetic...and people are generally less enthusiastic for war these days - they send others to war but not many will volunteer...it's not like the WW1 or WW2 - militarists and polticians have trouble getting people stupid enough (or poor and ignorant enough) to get involved in wars...so 9/11 is/or was or would have been quite good coup for the right wing in the US (but maybe some actual Brit. Standard terrorists got to it first - but I don't think so -it was to well organised and those buildings collapsed so beautifully like a carefully organised demolition! And witnesses including the firemen saw bombs going off all the way down the building.

That said I think the jury is out for a a long time on 9/11- it may end up like the Kennedy debate...

Is this one of those tricky deals where White plays d5xe6 (en passant)?

If so, then one very clever piece of your puzzle is that Black also has the tricky option of 0-0-0, even though this still fails to Qa8#.

By George, you're getting there. White to mate in 2. :)

<Why not 1. Ke6?>

Black theoretically has the option of 0-0-0.
