<Format>:

[player]-[player] [result] [# of MOVES]

==4 Different Scoring Methods==

Standard Moves Ranker (1st place-Over[3pts], 1st place-Under [7pts], Exact [10pts])

Bonus Ranker (3rd place-Over[1pts],2nd place-Over[2pts],3rd place-Under [5pts], 2nd place-Under [6pts]

Standard Moves/Bonus Ranker [Add all to together]

1st place Ranker [how many 1st place you have in Standard Moves Ranker]

For example:

<Note: Participants 3, 4, and 5 are predicated on nobody scoring an exact as Participant 2 did. If someone hits an exact, the closest score under and over will score the points for second place.>

Actual Game: [player]-[player] 0-1 45

Participant 1: [player]-[player] 1/2 45
Participant 2: [player]-[player] 0-1 45
Participant 3: [player]-[player] 0-1 44
Participant 4: [player]-[player] 0-1 43
Participant 5: [player]-[player] 0-1 46

Participant 1: No points even though 45 is correct. Results must be correct. If Result is wrong and moves # is correct...you get no points whatsoever

Participant 2: 10 pts rewarded for correct Result/moves #

Participant 3: 7 pts rewarded for closest under (1st-Under) to 45 moves

Participant 4: 6 pts rewarded for the 2nd closest under (2nd-Under) to 45 moves.

Participant 5: 3 pts rewarded closest OVER(1st-OVER) to 45 moves.

Again, the description of Participant 3, 4, and 5 are based on there being no exact prediction as made by Participant 2.

<IF> there is an exact or an under closest, the highest scoring over participant will be 2nd over. The second closest over will be 3rd over. The <ONLY> time there will be a first over is if there is no exact or under winner.

WannaBe: A Playoff system is the best way to settle any/all arguments, look at the St. Louis Cardinals, they won the World Series 2 years ago, despite being only 2 games over .500

But not a peep from anyone... If you have a playoff, and say a team with 3 losses beats everyone, they are the champ. No one will complaint, or grumble.

I don't like this BCS, never have, never will. Every college year, I hope for 3+ undefeated teams, or a bunch of teams with 1 loss, this year, it's a couple of teams with 1 loss, and a bunch with two losses...

Not to mention Hawai'i, undefeated, but because of a weak conference, they are not considered, and, if they should pull a Boise State of last year, and win their bowl game, arguments will never end...

Dec-03-07  chessmoron: I don't particular like the playoff systems.

If Atlantic Coast, Big 12, Mid-American and Southeastern have two groups, why can't other conference have two groups?

WannaBe: You need minimum 12 teams in a conference to have a conference championship game.

Big 10 is one team short, and Pac-10 is 2 teams short. etc. etc. etc...

Dec-03-07  chessmoron: I would like Big Ten and Big East as one big conference. Take out Minnesota and Syracuse into the subdivision groups. Remaining teams can go to FSB conference.

Same goes for Pacific-10 and 2 from Mountain West and remaining can go to FSB or subdivision groups.

Same goes for Western Athletic and Sun Belt and remaining can go to FSB or subdivision groups.

OhioChessFan: So LSU beats a team with 3 losses and that's so overpowering it moves them up over 100 voting points? I'm just not buying it. Georgia fans should be furious.

  jessicafischerqueen: What Ho, <Elvis>!

Thanks for dropping by.

You've got to take (well you don't HAVE to) what I post with a LARGE grain of salt, since I'm a a slave to the cheap joke and hyperbole.

I was actually an admirer of <Bill Buckley> and read his column my whole life.

<traditional liberal view>-- You mean <modern liberal view>:

Traditional "Left" or "liberal" thinking from the 17th century on <Locke> was quite "libertarian"-- small government, an unfettered market-- and these ideas were appropriated later by political conservatives.

Your 18th century <conservative> (Edmund Burke) thought capitalism was "crass" and that, paternalistically, the job of the elite was to care for the great unwashed and to set an example for <"noble behavior.">-- IE- respect for God, King and Country.

To be fair to your point, however, of course I realize that=

The <extended family>, <philanthropy>, and of course the (originially) <Lockean> economic idea that an <unfettered market> creates jobs and therefore relieves poverty are all <pre-welfare state> ideas of how to care for the poor.

However-- the history of the <Union movement> proved that "class struggle" was also an economic reality, perhaps a necessity for raising the bar for traditionally "poor" occupations. Note that the Union Movement is the OPPOSITE of a <welfare state> ethos-- the poorer workers band together fight for themselves in this case.

Only a total <libertarian>, however -- (Nozick) for example--- would advocate letting the "market" take care of the poor all by itself.

and even Locke had his famous <proviso>- "lest those who were unable to compete were not cared for" etc. etc. He thought those simply unable to compete in a labor market should be cared for. He didn't say exactly HOW, though (second Treatise on Government).

<Nozick> imagined himself a disciple of <Locke>, but he's a tad heartless.

And let's not get into the perverted heartlessness of <Herbert Spencer's> "social Darwinism"-- An idea enthusiastically embraced by the <Nazis>--

<Spencer> thought the poor (those unable to compete in a market) really would starve to death-- and this would be GOOD because it would weed out the social "fault" of poor people from the "gene pool." <Bobby Fischer> had similar notions about <weakie> chess players.

But I'm sure you know all this.

I think elements of a <welfare state> are necessary-- only a programmatic libertarianwould sugget otherwise-- but I'm no "knee-jerk" modern liberal either.

I wouldn't even vote for <H-Dog> or <Saddam Hussein Barack Osama Bin Laden>.

Course I wouldn't vote for <McCain French Fries> either.

I might vote for <Britney Spears>, but she's not running for nomination.

Anyhoo, thanks for dropping by.

Regards.

OhioChessFan: I occasionally search "OhioChessFan", "Ohio", and "OCF" to see if anything is going on I should be seeing. I did so today. I am surprised at the number of comments on the Kasparov page about the supposed great right wing conspiracies in the elections in Ohio. I really don't get the conspiracy everywhere mindset. Anyway, I never cease to be amazed how far left the kibitzers on this site lean.

OhioChessFan: This is odd. I just got a call from a representative of the Ohio Vast Right Wing Conspiracy Association. They asked me if I'd like a job looking at lists of potential voters. My job would entail determining the race of each of the state's 7 million registered voters, and then personally making sure each and every African American and Latino voter was unable to vote next election. They assured me I'd escape prosecution, violent reprisals, and excessive billable cell phone minutes.

OhioChessFan: A quick history lesson in several parts.

Part 1

May 16, 1967 Egypt's President Nasser decided he'd had enough of the 1956 Suez War treaties. Israel had promised to evacuate the Sinai if the UN were allowed a buffer force. Nasser decided that he didn't like that treaty any more, so he appealed to the UN to remove the buffer forces. The UN agreed.

  OhioChessFan: Part 2

As soon as the UN buffer force left, Nasser blockaded Israel's only Southern port-Eilat. This was a clear act of war. LBJ tried to establish an armada to run through the naval blockade, but failed. Most the Arab nations made public proclamations that they were about to exterminate Israel.

  OhioChessFan: Part 3

Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Jordan, Algeria, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Libya and Morocco sent troops on all sides of Israel. Their economy was in shambles because of the closed port. Yitzhak Rabin was Army Chief of Staff, and he suffered a nervous breakdown. LBJ failed to persuade the US allies to help. Europe (excepting Britain and the Netherlands) stayed true to its history of despising the Jewish people and refused to get involved. Israel's existence was at risk.

A question was posed as to what King move caused the earliest resignation. Here's the answer:

Den Broeder - Van der Ent, correspondence, Netherlands 1977 1.e4 Nf6 2.e5 Nd5 3.d4 e6 4.c4 Bb4+ 5.Ke2 and Black resigned.

OhioChessFan: On June 5, Israel attacked the Egyptians by air. They sent 188 of their 200 planes. That left 12 to defend against a combined Arab force of 900. That attack succeeded.

Meanwhile, in the West Bank, Jordan's King Hussein was persuaded by Nasser, lied to in fact, that Israel was a beaten enemy. Jordan moved in, and paid the price.
