<Format>:

[player]-[player] [result] [# of MOVES]

==4 Different Scoring Methods==

Standard Moves Ranker (1st place-Over[3pts], 1st place-Under [7pts], Exact [10pts])

Bonus Ranker (3rd place-Over[1pts],2nd place-Over[2pts],3rd place-Under [5pts], 2nd place-Under [6pts]

Standard Moves/Bonus Ranker [Add all to together]

1st place Ranker [how many 1st place you have in Standard Moves Ranker]

For example:

<Note: Participants 3, 4, and 5 are predicated on nobody scoring an exact as Participant 2 did. If someone hits an exact, the closest score under and over will score the points for second place.>

Actual Game: [player]-[player] 0-1 45

Participant 1: [player]-[player] 1/2 45
Participant 2: [player]-[player] 0-1 45
Participant 3: [player]-[player] 0-1 44
Participant 4: [player]-[player] 0-1 43
Participant 5: [player]-[player] 0-1 46

Participant 1: No points even though 45 is correct. Results must be correct. If Result is wrong and moves # is correct...you get no points whatsoever

Participant 2: 10 pts rewarded for correct Result/moves #

Participant 3: 7 pts rewarded for closest under (1st-Under) to 45 moves

Participant 4: 6 pts rewarded for the 2nd closest under (2nd-Under) to 45 moves.

Participant 5: 3 pts rewarded closest OVER(1st-OVER) to 45 moves.

Again, the description of Participant 3, 4, and 5 are based on there being no exact prediction as made by Participant 2.

<IF> there is an exact or an under closest, the highest scoring over participant will be 2nd over. The second closest over will be 3rd over. The <ONLY> time there will be a first over is if there is no exact or under winner.

OhioChessFan: <themadhair>, feel free to post your solution right away. But it's usually considered good form to announce when you are posting a solution to alert others. Perhaps something like:

*** Posting solution to May 26 puzzle ***

And then a couple blank lines followed by your solution.

* When you promote the f-pawn you promote it to a rook. *

* Like that?

  OhioChessFan: Well done, <themadhair>.
May-28-06  themadhair: Do you know that position that was thought to be drawn for years until it was realised that a rook underpromotion could win it? I remember reading about it but can't find it on the net.

OhioChessFan: I wonder if I posted the solution by hand if I could overtake the Emperor in most pages on a forum?
Jun-03-06  EmperorAtahualpa: <I wonder if I posted the solution by hand if I could overtake the Emperor in most pages on a forum?>

<OhioChessFan> You would need about 1 page per move. :)

Pleased to meet you, by the way!

White to play and win.

Jun-06-06  themadhair: Either your puzzles are getting harder or I'm getting worse at chess. I'm 0 for 2 at the moment.

OhioChessFan: A gentle hint for the June 5 puzzle. The first move is a gimme. The second move is really the key. I solved it more by thinking than by moving pieces, ie, how can I checkmate without allowing the Black pieces too much freedom, where is Black vulnerable to being checked, etc.

OhioChessFan: I've noticed a few forums discussing the date, so I'll toss out a few random thoughts on 6-6-6. I think most of the book of Revelation was referring to things that happened in that immediate time frame. I strongly believe the reference of 666 was to Nero. I have always suspected that it's significant that it's not "666", but "six hundred sixty six" in the manuscripts. Alas, I have no idea what the significance is. It's a common misconception that the 666 refers to "the antichrist", when in fact it refers to what the bible calls the "beast". I deny flatly there is such a thing as "The Antichrist", and affirm there were, are, and will be many antichrists.
Jun-06-06  themadhair: I get it now. Very nice. How suttle that 2.h3 is.

OhioChessFan: Solution to the puzzle of June 5

White to play and win.

1. Kxe1. Now Black's only moves are Qa1-a2. The h pawn will promote, to Knight. It must capture the c5 pawn, then c4 pawn. And then it must get to b3 when the Black Queen is on a1. That is, White wants to move to a white square when the Black Queen is on a1. So then 1...Qa1 2. h3 and the rest plays itself.

Jun-10-06  chessmoron: <OhioChessFan> Sorry to be picky, can you please vary your puzzle to black's position, also. Thanks. :)
