<Format>:

[player]-[player] [result] [# of MOVES]

==4 Different Scoring Methods==

Standard Moves Ranker (1st place-Over[3pts], 1st place-Under [7pts], Exact [10pts])

Bonus Ranker (3rd place-Over[1pts],2nd place-Over[2pts],3rd place-Under [5pts], 2nd place-Under [6pts]

Standard Moves/Bonus Ranker [Add all to together]

1st place Ranker [how many 1st place you have in Standard Moves Ranker]

For example:

<Note: Participants 3, 4, and 5 are predicated on nobody scoring an exact as Participant 2 did. If someone hits an exact, the closest score under and over will score the points for second place.>

Actual Game: [player]-[player] 0-1 45

Participant 1: [player]-[player] 1/2 45
Participant 2: [player]-[player] 0-1 45
Participant 3: [player]-[player] 0-1 44
Participant 4: [player]-[player] 0-1 43
Participant 5: [player]-[player] 0-1 46

Participant 1: No points even though 45 is correct. Results must be correct. If Result is wrong and moves # is correct...you get no points whatsoever

Participant 2: 10 pts rewarded for correct Result/moves #

Participant 3: 7 pts rewarded for closest under (1st-Under) to 45 moves

Participant 4: 6 pts rewarded for the 2nd closest under (2nd-Under) to 45 moves.

Participant 5: 3 pts rewarded closest OVER(1st-OVER) to 45 moves.

Again, the description of Participant 3, 4, and 5 are based on there being no exact prediction as made by Participant 2.

<IF> there is an exact or an under closest, the highest scoring over participant will be 2nd over. The second closest over will be 3rd over. The <ONLY> time there will be a first over is if there is no exact or under winner.

  OhioChessFan: ** Final Recap **

After sleeping through 3 rounds in a row, <Penguincw> scored a spectacular exact on a 19 move game, and then was the only person to correctly pick Kramnik-Shankland, leading to a well earned Triple Crown. He added a bronze in Bonus Ranker. <lostemperor> held his lead in Bonus Ranker with few challenges until a late rush by <Count Wedgemore> fell just short.

The news media asked <lostemperor> the secret to his success, and he replied, "Hold 'em, you to know got, fold 'em when to." When asked to share a few words about his Triple Crown, <Pengo> pulled out a brief 20 page acceptance speech, but the electric mysteriously went out at that point.

In other news, <Diademas> missed another round, and was rumored to be a travelling groupie with Annie Lennox. <chessmoron> and <OhioChessFan> claimed they were too distacted by administrative duties to do well in the contest, as they finished at the bottom of the Moves+Bonus Ranker. There were whispers the two of them were going to head back to the "Chess Club" to commiserate.

Thanks to <chessmoron> and <WinKing>. Congratulations to the gold medal winners <Penguin> and <lostemperor>, and all the medalists. I'm not sure what is next on the plate, whether the US Championship or Grenke or something else.

Jan-27-19  Count Wedgemore: I think I will join my friend <OCF>'s 'Kramnik Hate Group'. In his last game, he could have secured a draw against Shankland by giving up his bishop for his opponent's two remaining queenside pawns. But instead he wanted to play for the win, in an inferior position! Whatever happened to Big Vlad? Ridiculous decision. He just self-destructed. Most club players would have seen that Black's queenside pawns were deadly and that his extra bishop would not do, but he thought he could win it!! 50.Bxa6 was OBVIOUS..

And that cost me a fortune in the chessbookie game, AND if my calculations are correct, it cost me the Gold in the Bonus Ranker.

Time to retire, Big Vlad?

Anyway, thanks for another great contest and congratulations to <Penguincw> for the triple gold and to <lostemperor> for narrowly beating me to it in the Bonus Ranker. Until next time, guys.

OhioChessFan: Vladdy was worse in this tournament than his score would indicate. I still can't get past all the losses to the 2600's, with White, and then the one time I pick him to lose, with Black, against Carlsen, he plays a great draw.

I have had no interest in this round of Bookie. I threw 200 on the winner, just to make a bet, but I haven't been interested. I would have picked Vladdy to win with Black last round, which would have lead to a big payoff.

Jan-27-19  Count Wedgemore: <OCF: Vladdy was worse in this tournament than his score would indicate.>

Yes, absolutely. In rd.11 and 12 his wins were not particularly impressive. Especially the Van Foreest game, Kramnik made several inaccuracies/mistakes but luckily for him the young Dutchman made even more. A flawed game, by both.

<the one time I pick him to lose, with Black, against Carlsen, he plays a great draw.>

That game was vintage Kramnik and by far his best game in this year's Tata Steel tournament. His play in that game was much more solid and prudent than in his other games. My theory is that Big Vlad seemed to overestimate his position in more or less every single game he played, except for the Carlsen game. Perhaps he has quite a lot of respect for Magnus after all, even if it hasn't always seemed that way in his various interviews over the years..
