<Format>:

[player]-[player] [result] [# of MOVES]

==4 Different Scoring Methods==

Standard Moves Ranker (1st place-Over[3pts], 1st place-Under [7pts], Exact [10pts])

Bonus Ranker (3rd place-Over[1pts],2nd place-Over[2pts],3rd place-Under [5pts], 2nd place-Under [6pts]

Standard Moves/Bonus Ranker [Add all to together]

1st place Ranker [how many 1st place you have in Standard Moves Ranker]

For example:

<Note: Participants 3, 4, and 5 are predicated on nobody scoring an exact as Participant 2 did. If someone hits an exact, the closest score under and over will score the points for second place.>

Actual Game: [player]-[player] 0-1 45

Participant 1: [player]-[player] 1/2 45
Participant 2: [player]-[player] 0-1 45
Participant 3: [player]-[player] 0-1 44
Participant 4: [player]-[player] 0-1 43
Participant 5: [player]-[player] 0-1 46

Participant 1: No points even though 45 is correct. Results must be correct. If Result is wrong and moves # is correct...you get no points whatsoever

Participant 2: 10 pts rewarded for correct Result/moves #

Participant 3: 7 pts rewarded for closest under (1st-Under) to 45 moves

Participant 4: 6 pts rewarded for the 2nd closest under (2nd-Under) to 45 moves.

Participant 5: 3 pts rewarded closest OVER(1st-OVER) to 45 moves.

Again, the description of Participant 3, 4, and 5 are based on there being no exact prediction as made by Participant 2.

<IF> there is an exact or an under closest, the highest scoring over participant will be 2nd over. The second closest over will be 3rd over. The <ONLY> time there will be a first over is if there is no exact or under winner.

OhioChessFan: Yes. A couple trivial lines. 1. Rb7+ Ka8 2. Ra7+ Kb8 is clearly a repetition. If Black underpromotes, the White Rook draws.

OhioChessFan: Anyone remember a couple months ago when Chessgames.com correctly removed a bunch of off-topic posts from the Wesley So page? It was rather amusing to see the children screaming that they'd get the kibitzing numbers higher than the number of pages for Carlsen. But ominously, the consensus view was that somehow "they" would never let that happen. <cue spooky music> Yes, according to the So crowd, there was a large continguent of people truly worried what player's page had the most kibitzing and "they" would do anything to make sure So didn't surpass Carlsen. A few months later, there's hundreds of more pages of kibitzing on the So page.......and nobody cares.

  tpstar: <Anyone remember> Yes.

<nobody cares> Yes they do. :-)

<off-topic posts> My theory is that this year a subset of kibitzers joined the *site* without ever joining the *group* which led to confusion. Back in 2004 when this was a free site, there was a definite slant against off-topic threads anywhere besides the Fischer page (which was "special"), and I distinctly remember an interesting discussion about Ashkenazi Jews and genetic profiling which got the axe just because there was no direct relation to chess. This dramatically changed when <ray keene> arrived, as his fans and friends used his player page to discuss literature (chess and non-chess) which offended some longtime users as not being in the "spirit" of the site. It was decided that name players could use their page to discuss any subject ("cookie recipes"), provided folks still followed the Posting Guidelines. Restrictions on off-topic discussion were further loosened when they instituted Premium Membership later in 2004 and especially with the advent of chessforums in January 2006, both of which were business decisions. I can see how a newcomer could peruse the Kibitzer's Cafe only to find nothing about chess, thus the whole site must be a free-for-all.

The posting contest is a separate issue, yet it's been done before. Someone is about to reach 9000 posts one sentence at at time. (Whether he is learning anything about chess along the way is debatable. :p) What bothered me was the contrived tension between So fans and Carlsen fans (leading straight to personal attacks), and this will be a recurring theme for years.

In any event, it's a good thing we called the question during the summer or else we'd have all kinds of problems right now. =)

I think it's one of the greatest country albums ever.

A stark naked lighbulb hangs over my head. There's one lonely pillow on my double bed. I got me a ceilin', a floor and four walls. Who says you can't have it all?

My room's decorated with pictures of you. Your letters wall paper this shrine to the blues. I've got precious memories at my beck and call. Who says you can't have it all?

OhioChessFan: I have a new favorite New Testament word. It's found in 1 Peter 2:21

For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:

The word "example" there is an interesting Greek word. The Greek is <hypogrammos> which means under-words. Hypo is a common English prefix for under. Grammos is Greek for words, or writing. It's where we get the English grammar, grammatical, etc. Jesus is our underwriting. And specifically, in the Greek, it refers to one of those sheets kids learn the alphabet from. In English, it will have A B C on a line and the kids copy those letters on the blank line above. This is your example to follow exactly, in order, and know it will never change.
