Stonehenge: <Ate> My condolences, this is terrible news. Ik heb je vader leren 'kennen' op deze site als een zeer harde werker en ook iemand die grapjes kon maken. Ik wens jullie heel veel sterkte met dit enorme verlies.

  kutztown46: <Ate>

Please accept my deepest condolences. Your father was a very helpful member of our team, and although I never had the privilege of meeting him, he seemed like a really great guy.

May God comfort your family at this time of your loss.

Sep-27-08  Ron: <Ate> I am sorry to hear of the death of Rinus. I never directly communicated with Rinus here; but I found his posts to be pleasant and useful.
Sep-27-08  hms123: <Ate> Rinus was a good and respected contributor from whom many of us learned much. Best wishes to all--hms
Sep-27-08  benjinathan: <Ate> What terrible news. It is hard to believe. I am deeply saddened. Please accept the condolences of me and my family.

Your father made hundreds of posts to this site, mostly with respect to the games where members of the site played as a group against top chess players. What is striking is that he never involved himself in the petty disputes that are commonplace in this competitive environment. He was always courteous and positive.

To give but one example. Here is a short post he made about the suggestion that our opponent might cheat. <Rinus> assumed the best, but did not ridicule the suggestion:

<All three options imply the will to cheat, and he hasn't got that will!>

Real class.

I am sorry for your loss which we share with you.

Is there a place where one might make a donation?

Sep-27-08  sentriclecub: <Ate> Your father was a very honorable man. He was an excellent teammate, full of respect, and was a genuine hard working person who was a pleasure to interact with him a couple times in analysis. He will be missed and you and your family have my deepest thoughts and prayers. He will no doubt be missed by his family and by his community. I hope you cherished your time you got to know him. Life is truly short, and there are no answers to things like this. He will no doubt be missed.

OhioChessFan: My condolences. He was a respected and respectful member of this site.
Sep-27-08  whatthefat: I'm very sorry to hear this. He was one of my favourite members of this site, and made some hefty contributions to the World chess team's analysis.

Of course, to know someone only through an internet forum is to have a rather limited knowledge of them, but through even that small scope he came across to me as a very inquisitive and respectable character. I feel a genuine sense of loss.

Your father was our friend in chess and a true ambassador of the game.

Godspeed to you and yours as your father stays in our prayers.

Sep-29-08  Waitaka: <Ate> I am very sorry to hear. Rinus was a great contributor and an respectful teammate.
Sep-29-08  YouRang: <Ate> I just saw the sad news, and I offer my condolences for loss that your family has experienced.

I have no doubt that your dad was a bright, hard-working, and well-respected man. That was certainly the reputation he had around the world by those who came to know him through this site.

We'll miss him.

Sep-29-08  Karpova: Rest in peace, <rinus>. A very important contributor to <chessgames.com> and one of those who made this forum worth visiting!

kwgurge: A true gentleman and kind to all here on this website. When he could be as nice as he was in the context of an anonymous website, he must have been a truly outstanding person to know personally. Our loss, of course, is nothing compared to yours. Godspeed to <Rinus> and condolences to the family lucky enough to have had his company and guidance.
Sep-29-08  galumph: Ate - I am so sorry for your loss. May you and your family find some consolation in the knowledge that all over the earth, members of the on-line chess community mourn with you. He was highly-regarded and, more imporantly, well-loved by us all.
Sep-29-08  Mac3: <Ate> Very sorry to hear of the loss of your father. He was a talented and valued contributor to this site.

May God's Blessing and comfort envelop you and your family at this time.

Best wishes from New Zealand, Andrew
