I live in South Florida USA. Rated USCF ~1800

A long time ago I was a new player in a Miami chess park, and one of the stronger players thought I had real talent, so he suggested that I play the park champ, a Cuban master. After the master destroyed me in a few blitz games, the question was posed, "Is he any good?" The answer I took as a great compliment: "Ehh... he tries to be sneaky."

The greatest chess player of all time is Robert James Fischer. The greatest chess problemist of all time is Sam Loyd. The greatest chess site of all time is chessgames.com!

Other players who I admire:

<Morphy> Possibly the greatest natural chess talent ever. Like Steinitz who followed, he taught the world how the game should really be played. <Najdorf> He was smart enough to make his money outside of chess, so he played for the pure joy of it. <Tal> Proved that even in the modern era, chess is an art more than a science. <Blackburne> Sacrificed his queen more times than I've had hot meals. <Diemer> One of the most original thinkers the game ever has known. His ideas were not always right, but they were HIS ideas. <Topalov> He hates draws so much he'll gladly risk losing to avoid one. I can forgive him for the Elista debacle; his chess is payment enough. <Lembit Oll> When on the attack, Lembit Oll said "Dambit All!" <Kasparov> Strive for perfection, one move at a time. <Alekhine> Swashbuckling play culminating in booming sacrifices.

And countless others: Nezhmetdinov, Shirov, Nunn, Shabalov, Nakamura, basically, anybody with cojones.

Addendum 2015: <Magnus Carlsen> has to be on the list. He's a modern day Casablanca. The way he squeezes wins out of the tiniest advantages and grinds his opponents down through sheer stamina is right up there with Robert James.

You can find me on FICS (freechess.org) ... and lately, on ICC as well. I'll gladly play anybody within 1000 points of my rating. I also really like the site http://www.lichess.org but so far have only played anonymously.

Sneaky: <I imagine it's not against the rules to look at your games collection - but just to check?> Hehehe... I never thought of that. Sure, go ahead. There's at least one or two games somewhere in there with this kind of stuff.

I play 6...Bxd6

OK now, to recap we've got

1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 e5 5. Nb5 a6 6. Nd6+ Bxd6

I'll go out on a limb and guess that you plan on playing 7. Qxd6 now, in which case I respond 7...Qf6, giving us this position:

Your move.

Jan-18-09  madlydeeply: Hey sneaky. I thought that David Lynch was finished with twin peaks and that is why it stopped.

I remembered one episode which I knew was not directed by Sir Lynch...when the "air force dad" was tied to a wheel and an evil person was throwing darts at him....That would have been a perfect shot if seen from the front with the wheel turning very slowly...

Oh..what you said about the king rook pawn...I remember reading Larsen saying that when he can't think of what to do, say a position with dynamic balance...he sends the rook pawn down the board. Sometimes he sends both pawns. "Gaining space" i suppose. I think Soltis wrote about that somewhere.

Cheerio!

Jan-18-09  madlydeeply: I have to say I admire that you gave up TV altogether. I will take inspiration from you.
Jan-18-09  Silverstrike: <Sneaky> <There's at least one or two games somewhere in there with this kind of stuff.> Don't you have a whole collection devoted to this opening?

7.Qxd6 Qf6

I've seen this move in a book...

8.Qc7

Sneaky: Ahh yes, Game Collection: The Sneaky Old Löwenthal Sicilian. It is sort of an unfinished project, e.g. I don't think I have a single 8.Qc7 game in there even though I've seen it over the board quite a bit. I've never seen it discussed in a book, though. I'm sure it's sound.

<Silver> My move is 8...Nge7.

Sneaky: <I thought that David Lynch was finished with Twin Peaks and that is why it stopped.> I've heard talk to that effect but only many years later, at the time the word was that it just didn't have a wide enough base of viewers. People who weren't following every episode from the very beginning you were totally lost -- and even then, they might be totally lost. And the final episode certainly did not tie any loose threads together ... the ultimate confrontation between Cooper and "Bob" was about to begin. And that chess loving maniac Windham Earl was still on the loose, killing people every time a piece was captured in the correspondence chess game he demanded to play with Agent Cooper.
Jan-19-09  madlydeeply: did you see the movie that wrapped things up supposedly? "fire walk with me"

Well one place that ended well was with cooper bleeding from the head because he just turned evil...that was a david lynch way to end things!!

It was one of those shows, though, where there was plenty to keep you entertained even if you didn't know the real plot. I remember the dashing suitor that worked in men's fashion but never had any money to pay for anything...ha!

Jan-19-09  Silverstrike: <Sneaky> 9.Nc3

Sneaky: 9...Nb4, and if you decide to play 10.Bd3 I'll stick with the "mainline" and play 10...d5

Sneaky: <madlydeeply> Yes I saw the movie but I barely remember it. I believe it was a "prequel" to the TV series, not a follow-up.

Sneaky: <I remember the dashing suitor that worked in men's fashion but never had any money to pay for anything...ha!>

I remember the character "Pete" (Jack Nance, one of Lynch's favorite actors), he was the town chess master. The police recruited Pete to teach the officers chess, since it had to do with the case they were solving. That large and dull-witted officer named Andy made a move and Lucy objected, "A knight doesn't move that way, it makes that little hook move." Andy said, "It doesn't have to make that hook move, it's optional." Pete interrupted and said, "Andy--the knight HAS to make that hook move. It should want to--it's a privilege! It's the only piece that can do that!"

Jan-22-09  madlydeeply: that is very funny i must admit. I remember Andy once stepped on a loose porchboard...he also had a problem with his "sperms" for a while but it turned out his "sperms" were ok. Ah that was funny.

the husband of the high powered evil lady always has a bit role in every david lynch movie..."my dog barks...." in wild at heart...he was the baron's henchman in dune, he was the father in eraserhead etc.. I don't remember him in mulholland drive however.

"i fell for you...like a boooommmmmmbbb"

Sneaky: Another scene just came to my mind....

That "dashing young suitor" you mentioned (I wish I could remember his name), he pulls out a cigarette and turns to slow-witted Andy and says "have you got a light?" Andy starts to search his pockets one by one, then as if he suddenly realizes that he doesn't smoke, says indignantly "No!" So then our dashing young suitor immediately flicks a flame from the lighter he was holding all the while.

Hahahahaha

Sneaky: <Silverstrike> In case you missed it (buried in all this David Lynch babble), my last move was 9...Nb4. I'm not rushing you at all, take your time, this is a casual game. Just want to make sure you didn't overlook it.
Jan-25-09  Silverstrike: <Sneaky> Thanks :)

I'll get the move to you today.

Jan-25-09  Silverstrike: <Sneaky> 9...Nb4 10.Bd3 d5 11.f4

  Sneaky: <Silver>

I play 12...Nxd3+

and if 13.cxd3, I play ...Qh3

Feb-08-09  Silverstrike: I play 13.Kf2

Sneaky: <Silverstrike: I play 13.Kf2> I think you mean you play 14.Kf2, and that you availed yourself of my "if move". (After 12...Nxd3+, then 13.Kf2 would be illegal.)

So I'll assume you meant that the game goes 12...Nxd3+ 13.cxd3 Qh3 14.Kf2 giving us this position:

Now I play 14...d4
