So - do you feel up for one? |
|
Dec-11-08
 | | Sneaky: <Silverstrike> OK, who's turn is it for White? Yours, right? |
|
Dec-11-08
 | | Sneaky: I was talking on the Kibitzer's Café about crossword clues and crossword puns: < The best crossword clue I've ever heard in my life is a devious pun. I read that the Guardian had to print an explanation/apology, because the people who got the joke thought it was a little bit sexist, and the people who didn't get the joke thought it was a totally bizarre. The clue wasBust down reason? (9 letters)
I'll post the answer in my chessforum. >
The incredible answer is . . .
B R A I N W A S H
If you're like me you're probably thinking "So what?" OK, hang onto your hat here. It's a pun for, "BRA IN WASH". Presumably that's the reason why the bust is down. :-) Utterly brilliant. I really don't know how they come up with this stuff. |

Dec-11-08
 | | OhioChessFan: I was thinking "braless" but couldn't get to 9 letters. |
|
Dec-11-08
 | | OhioChessFan: BTW, where's the bloody motorcycle? |
|
Dec-13-08
 | | Sneaky: <OhioChessFan: BTW, where's the bloody motorcycle?> Note three things: 1. A suitcase in the upper left corner of the screen casting a shadow towards you from the intense lighting. 2. A large plastic bottle, the kind they put spring water in, behind the "doorman". 3. Two rectangular boxes / waste baskets: one dark, one light. This apparent "clutter" is no accident. Those little pieces of trash, added together, tell you where the motorcycle went. |
|
Dec-13-08 | | refutor: hey sneaky! how did you get "SNEAKY'S SHANTY" at the top of your message board? |
|
Dec-14-08
 | | Sneaky: <Refutor> Check it out, the latest CG frill, "Name Your Chessforum" at the Chessforum Configuration Page. |
|
Dec-16-08 | | TITIKIZA: hi sneaky. how do you manage to lose so many chess bucks like this? |
|
Dec-18-08
 | | Sneaky: Well I'm already qualified, so I'm playing for the #1 spot. To go from 3000 to 12000+ in a week or two requires lots of big bold bets. I made them and lost them. Oh well. I'm still qualified for the Championship next season. Plus I can still try one last move, like a 500 c$ bet on the pick three, maybe I'll get hugely lucky. |
|
Dec-19-08 | | Silverstrike: <Sneaky> Sorry for not getting back. I play 1.e4 (surprise!)
What forum would you prefer to play in, or would email suit you better? The forum does have the advantage of allowing spectators however. |
|
Dec-19-08
 | | Sneaky: I'd prefer to play right here. I might clean up some extraneous posts, and we can post FEN positions from time to time and recap the moves. Yes 1.e4 was a surprise. But one that I've looked at before, and so . . . 1...c5 |
|
Dec-19-08
 | | Sneaky: Just to recap the rules:
(1 Chess computers (Rybka Fritz etc.) are not allowed. (2) Chessgames Opening Explorer is allowed.
(3) Looking at games in Chessgames is allowed.
(4) Books, magazines, etc. are allowed.
(5) Getting help from other people is not allowed.
Is all that correct? |

Dec-19-08 | | Silverstrike: <Sneaky> <Rules> Fine by me.

Dec-25-08 | | Silverstrike: <Sneaky> Apologies for the delay; I encountered problems posting my move (I kept posting too few characters). Chessgames.com sorted it all out though! |
|

|
Jan-10-09
 | | Sneaky: <Silver Strike> Now I must apologize for the delay, I got distracted from chess for a while. OK, back to our game, I play 3...cxd4. To speed things along I'll use an "if-move". If you respond 4.Nxd4 then I will play 4...e5. <Everybody> Happy 2009 |
|
Jan-13-09 | | Silverstrike: <Sneaky> Not to worry. :) I'll go with that, and play

I imagine it's not against the rules to look at your games collection - but just to check? |
